Can anyone say “media beat up so the Obama can say ‘please congress can I have some more trillions for stronger border protection'”
There are 200 active cases reported world wide, gee with only 250+ million in the USA alone what percentage is that?
Answer: Fuck all, stop playing this on the news every 30 seconds you media rating whore fucktards.
People get sick all the time. Most get better, some die. It’s been this way since the dawn of time. Wash your hands. Keep your hands away from your mouth. Eventually humans develop immunity. This ain’t the black plague.
It’s worse:

I’ve been watching a new show on CNN – The Flu.
Why panic? The death rate based on reported cases is less than one in a thousand and I suspect most people don’t go to the doctor. They get sick but not that sick.
Given that the media in general are in dire straits financially, perhaps a pandemic IS what they need to increase revenue. Just look at the mature and responsible way its being handled!

Yes, that website is bogus. that would be awesome though. i’ve always wanted to go on a zombie rampage
ahh ha ha ha ha… at last some nu8mbers to show how stupid this panic is, 35,000 per year die in the USA from normal flu, 1,000 of them are in NY alone.
We are closing borders, shutting down industries, closing schools and causing world wide panic because less than 200 died in Mexico?
You watch, 5 people die in the entire USA and just because it has a name the politicians are getting on their soap boxes about how clever they were by spending $1.5 billion on combating the virus.
Can you imagine if Obama asked for that money so that the poor and disadvantaged could get health care?
Instead of ‘yeah yeah spend what you want, please please keep us safe from these swiney people’ it would be ‘fuckem it’s their fault they are poor’.
Slow news week.
It seems like every year the news reporting on flu bugs gets more sensational. Remember how last year (or was it the year before) there was a panic when there was a shortage of the nation’s flu vaccine? People were panicking trying to get a shot before the vaccine ran out. After weeks and months of calls of pending disaster, it was the mildest flu season in years.
I think this hysteria is a combination of things.
1. The 24 hour cable news channels have something new to talk about besides the crappy economy.
2. It is a means to distract the public from the really important issues that are being done behind closed doors in Congress.
3. Justification for more government hand-holding.
4. Homeland Security and Center for Disease Control trying to show they are actually relevant and deserve more funding.
5. Prepping the public for the impending call for the nationalization of the health care system.
6. The continuing pussification of the nation.
7. Oh, and if it bleeds, it leads. Or, in this case, someone somewhere dies.
Its all crap. Get on with you lives and maybe pick up some flu medicine when you are at the grocery store, just in case.
I predict that in less than a week the flu scare will be over. Mexico city will be an undesirable place to visit for another 30 days.
Off topic:
On the plus side, I found a few pounds of morels today. Thought the recent heat wave in NE USA would doom this years crop, but there is hope for more with the recent rains.

Did you really mean years?
I guess some of us became enlightened years ago, hence cynical about anything the MSM puts forth. As altruistic as they try to seem, they are still a profit/ratings driven business, that will do anything ti gain viewership.

#7, Alfred;
I hear Stephen Colbert has a bridge to sell you.
The media makes a big noise out of this because they have to talk about something they don’t really care what just that you will keep watching.
if your Fox blame the Dems for everything, if your MSNBC blame the GOP, if your CNBC try to put a market spin on it, if your CNN ad a lot on silly tech stuff, If your NPR cover it with a long rational and sympathetic story that will be sure to put the listener to sleep.
The CDC keeps an eye on this pig (the H1N1 Flu) because its their job its what we pay them for- -The media loves the CDC they always have some thing to scare the statistically challenged sheep.
The Obama reacts and lets hope its over reacting because if it turns out to be a Black Death and he did nothing or did to little to late he’d be “Katrined”. Better to be overly cautious concerned than condemned for mismanagement and lack of leadership.
Why aren’t you panicking? My guidebook tells me not to right on the cover.
As a physician, I strongly urge all of you to … PANIC!
RUN, you idiots, RUN, RUN, RUN!!!
Don’t take the beer. You can’t drink it through a mask… RUN!
heh,heh,heh, Free Beer!
I will have some of what Nimby is smoking.
We panic because the Bush Administration practiced it for almost eight years as the way to control the population.
How many people forgot about watching your neighbor for suspicious activity? Or being afraid to receive your mail? Or dark skinned, unknown people carrying cameras? Or Alert Colors? Or only non Americans don’t wear lapel Flag pins?
So tell me, how else should the media have responded?
#4,#7 – That’s the T-Virus
Just like I predicted 2 days ago the disscusion of the over hype would begin. What we really need to worry about is this fall when it returns stronger.
#24, ‘dro.
Exactly !!! The White House, CDC, WHO, and other organizations have been playing it down to prevent a panic.
if you wish to bypass all the media crap
and learn exactly what strain, it’s genealogy and resistances etc is being found and where,
go here:
http://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/FLU/SwineFlu.html
note: this is geeky stuff. any virologists in the crowd may find it more useful than the average joe.
it is the place to go to find the “real data” data on confirmed cases though.
