Earth Day may fall later this week, but as far as former NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell and other UFO enthusiasts are concerned, the real story is happening elsewhere.
Mitchell, who was part of the 1971 Apollo 14 moon mission, asserted Monday that extraterrestrial life exists, and that the truth is being concealed by the U.S. and other governments.
He delivered his remarks during an appearance at the National Press Club following the conclusion of the fifth annual X-Conference, a meeting of UFO activists and researchers studying the possibility of alien life forms.
Mankind has long wondered if we’re “alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we’re not alone,” Mitchell said.
“Our destiny, in my opinion, and we might as well get started with it, is [to] become a part of the planetary community. … We should be ready to reach out beyond our planet and beyond our solar system to find out what is really going on out there.”

#76, OK, I give up. It’s still just “testimony”, 2nd hand. No extraordinary evidence. Just more hearsay, stories. I don’t care if it’s quoting the pope, it doesn’t matter. Where’s the evidence? You could write a book as thick as the bible with stories like that, and it would be no more credible.
You believe what you like, without extraordinary evidence, I’ll never be convinced. One must land on the White House lawn or Red Square (or my back yard), then I would give it some credence.
I, too, have witnessed inexplicable phenomena as an astronomer, but there are likely explanations as stated by BubbaRay, Les Cowley, Dr. LoPresto, Dr. Olenick et al.
One of the most cool experiences was witnessing “ball lightning”, which I understand is quite rare. Now that was neat.

Most of these ex-astronauts end up becoming Vice Presidents of defense contractors (mainly aerospace giants). And they and many of their lesser fellow employees seem to share one thing in common. A highly active imagination and belief in UFOs. Many an “alien abductee” has been an aerospace worker of some kind. Usually a designer or concept artist. And they prefer to confuse a common sleep disorder, with being an abduction! Because obviously, EVERYTHING they dream about, must be real.
Also, there could easily be a profit motive for these aerospace vice president Ex-Astronauts to espouse their “belief” in alien life. It could be justification for getting more tax money, to either mount a defense against space aliens. Or build more rockets to go and join them out in the rum raspberry flavored galaxy. I take all these guys’ claims, with a large grain of salt. And a twist of lemon.

‘Big brains’ always come out in force when the subject is somewhat speculative. You can always tell a big brain from us normal folk. They’re so smart they know what’s real, and what’s imagination. They know what exsists and what doesn’t exsist. They know what’s possible and what’s impossible. Given the chance they’ll explain it to ya in detail. Lucky us! Some folk just accumulate facts, because it aleviates their fear of their own ignorance. After all the ‘safest’ assumption is if something is improbable then it does not exsist and cannot be, this way it is unlikely you will be proven wrong.
Regardless, we are being observed, for much the same reasons an earth biologist might study some animal in a foreign land. The only truly sacred activity in exsistence is learning, they understand this, that’s why they’re here.
#81 KD Martin, so then I’ll mark you down in the column of people who believe that no congressional hearings should be held on this subject. That will disappoint the people of the Disclosure Project. Is there any number of seemingly credible witnesses from the ranks of military and civilian aviation who could possibly convince you that public hearings might be a good idea, with a concomitant release granted to all witnesses from their alleged orders of secrecy?
Of course, one reason this whole subject is dangerous is that the existence of extraterrestrial life might change the way many people view their religion. This could possibly have a profound effect on our society that is very hard to predict. We’ve already seen many religious people (even in this blog) who firmly claim that without a belief in God, they would have no basis for morality at all, which is what they already claim is the case with the atheists among us. Yes, even the Dangerous Infidel himself has been accused of having no moral compass.

“To Serve Man” is a Short Story written by Damon Knight. One of the best Science Fiction writers of the golden age. I believe he also did the adaptation for the “Twightlight Zone” script.

Alphie, Your arguments are hollow. You claim other’s arguments fail for various reasons then turn around and invoke some scripture as if that were evidence. Evidence like this might convince idiots that are satisfied with the barest minimum, it doesn’t convince people with brains.
Third,
I also am of the opinion that we are not alone in the universe. Years ago I watched Carl Sagen give a lecture where he mathematically demonstrated the probability of intelligent life. It does remain a probability though since we have no evidence to demonstrate any facts.
I do believe though that if UFOs were actual visitors they would have made themselves known. If they are technologically advanced enough to travel light years to get here, they are also advanced enough to ward off our weapon systems. A danger though is expecting any alien to think or react the same as our society does.
You seem angry, Alfred1. Time to turn the other cheek instead, so the spittle stains on your shirt are more evenly balanced. Perhaps you could channel all that anger into helping the poor and infirm.
