A 25-year-old transsexual man in Barcelona has announced that he is pregnant with twins, prompting debate in Spain about the ethical use of reproductive technology. Rubén Noé Coronado Jiménez, who is reportedly nine weeks pregnant, interrupted hormone treatments and postponed plans to have a full sex-change operation in order to get pregnant because his 43-year-old girlfriend could no longer have children.

After emailing the 158 fertility clinics in Spain, he found one in Barcelona willing to help him prepare his atrophied uterus for insemination by donated sperm. “I have a right to have a baby,” he told reporters. “We are going to be a father, a mother and two children. I don’t see the problem.”

Coronado is not the first transsexual to become pregnant, but is reportedly the first to have twins.

Mar Combrolle, president of the Association of Transsexuals of Andalusia, denied Coronado’s pregnancy was “a contradiction”. She said: “The desire to have a child knows no sex. I think any biological man who wanted a child would give birth if he could.” She added that she recognised that not every transsexual would postpone a sex change in order to become pregnant.

If you took the religious moral panic out of the equation, this wouldn’t even make it outside medical journals.

  1. Stinker says:

So why is this news?? Men don’t have a uteris.

  2. brm says:

The pic is confusing. Which one is having the kids?

  3. Paddy-O says:

“A 25-year-old transsexual man in Barcelona has announced…”

    Umm, no. She’s a woman.

  4. contempt says:

Geez… How did you get a picture of Mister Mustard and bobbo?

  5. t0llyb0ng says:

The world don’t need another damn baby, & certainly from the likes o’ those two.

  6. GregA says:

If he is making babies in a uterus, he is not a man at all. He is a woman. Your gender is not a choice, deal with it.

  7. Random says:

#2 – I was thinking the same thing!

I’m assuming it’s the one on the left

  8. JFStan says:

I can’t believe some of the ignorant comments on here. If you people need to look at an x-ray or between your legs to remember if you’re a man or a woman, which seems to be what you’re relying on, then you’re the confused ones. SEX may be determined medically, but GENDER is completely in the mind, not the body.

And you’re right Eideard, if it wasn’t for the so-called “religious” or “moral” objections, it wouldn’t be an issue. Just because some poeple “don’t like it” or “don’t get it” doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Gender and all things related shouldn’t even be an issue at all anymore.

  9. Paddy-O says:

    # 9 JFStan said, “SEX may be determined medically, but GENDER is completely in the mind, not the body.”

But, your SEX determines whether you are a man or a woman, medically. If you don’t realize what your sex is and think you are something else, you have mental problems.

If you think you are a frog it doesn’t make you one. Gender has always meant your sex. Maybe, someone has decided to change the definition of the word…

  10. James Hill says:

#7 – Don’t let the thought police hear you say that. They may come and hug you, too.

  11. . says:

it’s not a he, it’s a she if the bastard is pregnant. Why can’t the media understand that?

  12. GregA says:

    #9,

When ectogenesis + medicine unite and men can make eggs from their own DNA, and grow that egg in a uterus like structure within their body, and women can make sperm from their own dna, then you are right. At that point in time gender is a choice.

Until then transexuals are people living as the opposite sex with a bunch of cosmetic surgery.

All this couple has acheived is to make me more entrenched in my belief that fertility treatment needs to be regulated (see octomom) and limited to people who meet two conditions. First, traditional fertility efforts have failed through no fault of the parents(aka no reversal of sterility treatments) and there are no preexisting children. Second, the couple has a greater than average chance out a positive outcome.

I want that for basically the same reasons I don’t want GMO food.

  13. RBG says:

Add the above bit of continuing nonsense to the new thing: heterosexual women who marry heterosexual women, and I can’t help but wonder how it is these issues get rammed down society’s throat with hardly a whimper of discussion.

I note that even the people who are making up these “rules” for the rest of us are now completely confused as to what they should believe is right. I just wish they’d get their own act together first.

    No religious reference is needed.

  14. BigBoyBC says:

I said it the last time a “man” had a baby.

If you still have the plumming to have a baby, you’re a woman, no matter what you look like.

  15. deowll says:

“If you took the religious moral panic out of the equation, this wouldn’t even make it outside medical journals.”

If you believe what you said you sir are as confused as they are.

  16. FRAGaLOT says:

Total bullshit. Every few years there’s a new guy claiming to be a pregnant male. This bullshit never ends, and I think most people just ignore this. It’s like the boy crying wolf.

  17. Paddy-O says:

Eideard said, “If you took the religious moral panic out of the equation, this wouldn’t even make it outside medical journals.”

Why would a woman being pregnant make it into medical journals?

  18. FRAGaLOT says:

#3, no it’s still a man, with an outward appearance of a woman. “Transexual Men” does not mean they are woman. Nor does it mean they started as a woman and have become male, that would be a “transsexual woman.”

Transexuality is more about the outward appearance than about their sexual organs. While you can physically change a man into a woman, “she” still won’t have a uterus, and is still classified as male (though some countries do allow that).

Plus you can’t attach a penis onto a woman who wants to be a man, yet they can get breast reduction and hormone therapy to appear more male. Those people could still get pregnant, but no one would consider them men.

  19. Paddy-O says:

    # 19 FRAGaLOT said, “#3, no it’s still a man, ”

Umm, no. If she was born a female and is now preg she’s a womam.

  20. religious moral panic?

On the contrary they should be stoked!
They seem to like to get lots of mileage out of these Immaculate Conception type babies

We don’t need more Octomom like Narcissus parents, I hope these guys will stay away from the media and just be good parents.

  21. bobbo says:

Sex and sexual orientation has many aspects:

physical, emotional, hormonal to name just three and all three can very across the spectrum quite widely. Just watch Jerry Springer.

  22. Mr. Fusion says:

    #22, Bobbo,

While I understand your point, I disagree. They would never make it onto Springer. They have too many teeth and not enough tattoos.

  23. GregA says:

    #23,

Thats because Springer is covering poverty, and not moral degeneracy. They are different things.

  24. brm says:

    #24:

Sex changes = moral degeneracy is just like, your opinion, man.

  25. GregA says:

    brm,

    First look at this link:

    http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx?q=extreme+body+modification&form=QBIR#

Once again, if this were extreme body modification every single person here would assume the person had emotional problems. These mods are no more or less extreme than those in the pictures.

Except they are being assisted by unscrupulous medical professionals. Notice the extreme length this lady had to go to find a fertility doctor. The lady in San Francisco last year had the same problems finding a fertility clinic.

Also keep in mind that the vast majority of doctors refuse to perform gender reassignment surgery on adults, and find the practice unethical.

Ok lets look at it from another angle. Performance enhancing drugs:

    http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx?q=steroid+abuse&form=QBIR#

Once again, the vast majority of the medical profession will not proscribe you steroids to bring on radical body modification like this.

But in this one instance, it is somehow becomes ok???

Finally, I am not against people doing with their own bodies what ever they want, but when they force that on A CHILD, it becomes a different issue entirely. Once again, it is a tiny subset of the medical community that finds gender reasignment ethical. Most of the medical community is against this practice and thinks it is mutilation.

  26. brm says:

    #26 GregA:

Well, I don’t really take the majority opinion of medical doctors as a good moral barometer. Most doctors think abortion is fine, while I find it morally reprehensible.

I have no problem with gender reassignment, steroids, or fertility treatment, however.

I think doctors on the whole are ridiculous – they’ll kill a baby, no problem, but then get all bent when someone wants to modify THEIR OWN body? Please.

  27. jbenson2 says:

What an asinine comment: If you took the religious moral panic out of the equation, this wouldn’t even make it outside medical journals.

What about the screwed-up life the poor kids are going to have to suffer as they watch their mother slowly change from a woman to a man.

  28. Paddy-O says:

    # 28 pedro said, “#10 Yep, the decision was made around 1973”

I thought so. A fave tactic of the libs/comms is to change the definitions of words to help forward their agenda. Bad becomes good, up is down, etc.

  29. Jamie (SMS) says:

With the ongoing debate over what defines a man and a woman (gender vs sex vs whatever), how do those positions deal with Hermaphrodites?
Regarding chromosomes and physical traits, their either in the middle, or both, depending. Frequently a gender is chosen for them by their parents or physicians, but some are having the surgery reversed, or parents are making the choice to not have them surgically altered to begin with.

    Just wondering.

  30. Paddy-O says:

    # 32 Jamie (SMS) said, “With the ongoing debate over what defines a man and a woman (gender vs sex vs whatever), how do those positions deal with Hermaphrodites?”

No idea. If it was pertinent to the thread I’d think more on it.
