So, what did the boys get?

An embarrassed father has said he was shocked when his teenage daughter returned home from a sexual health workshop with a six-inch rubber penis.

Kevin Neal, 46, father of teenage mother Kizzy, who previously hit headlines when she fell pregnant at the age of 13, said he was “bemused” by the NHS trust’s decision to dish out the spongy penises.

Miss Neal was one of a group of young mothers who volunteered to attend a workshop given by the Chlamydia screening service at the specialist home she lives in with her 22-month-old son.

Mr Neal, from Paignton, in Devon, told the Herald Express: “I am not prudish, and we more than most families fully appreciate the value of tackling these issues head on.

“But it amuses and bemuses me to think that a group of healthcare professionals have spent time and come up with a presentation designed to target teenage girls that would include a replica rubber penis to be given away as a free gift.

And then there’s this on a vaguely related topic.

  1. orangetiki says:

so do I yell about how a health board hands out sex toys or how your daughter’s name is kizzy.

  2. bobbo says:

Yea, I was outraged when my daughter went to a dog training class and came home with fleas.

So much better when sex health education classes just teach “no.”

  3. MattY says:

It’s a shame. Had it been a few months earlier, that rubber penis would have been the baby daddy.

  4. Mr. Fusion says:

I can appreciate the healthy attitude that sex knowledge implies, but should young girls be given homework?

  5. Good idea really … much better to use a rubber penis then the real disease-ridden-impregnating macoy!

  6. TooManyPuppies says:

    Dear Kevin Neal,

The fake cock wont get your daughter pregnant at 13!

  7. Paddy-O says:

So, why was the rate of teen pregnancies of fraction of what they are today when there was no sex education in the schools?

  8. Mr. Fusion says:

#7, Cow-Paddy, Ignorant Shit Talking Sociopath, Retired Mall Rent-A-Cop, Pretend Constitutional Scholar, Fake California Labor Law Expert, Pseudo Military Historian, Phony Climate Scientist, and Real Leading Troll Extraordinare,

Spoken like the ijit you are.

Accurate records were not kept of teen pregnancies until just recently. Thus it is impossible to know how many unwed teen pregnancies there were.

Often the young girl was sent to live with an aunt (or other relative) in another city. There were group homes for unwed mothers, often run by churches as if they were orphanages. But most of all, denial was the big thing.

#7–Paddy-O-Statistical Zero==because life offers more than one variable.

  10. Paddy-O says:

    # 9 bobbo said, “#7–Paddy-O-Statistical Zero==because life offers more than one variable.”

Right. So, what is the MOST influential variable?

  11. bobbo says:

#10–Paddy==with kiddies its always peer pressure. You know, like Rush and Repuglicans.

  12. Paddy-O says:

    # 11 bobbo said, “with kiddies its always peer pressure. ”

No, a variable. That is a constant that has been around since BEFORE the spike in teen pregnancy.

  13. bobbo says:

#12–Paddy-O-Constant==the only constant I observe is your stupidity.

  14. Mr. Fusion says:

    #13, Bobbo,

I don’t think Cow-Paddy, Ignorant Shit Talking Sociopath, Retired Mall Rent-A-Cop, Pretend Constitutional Scholar, Fake California Labor Law Expert, Pseudo Military Historian, Phony Climate Scientist, and Real Leading Troll Extraordinare,
understands what a variable is. That is unless he is trying to suggest an excuse for himself.

  15. bobbo says:

#14–Fusion==you are assuming Paddy-O-Zero would tell the truth when his political loyalty is tested?

Certainly, Paddy-O-ZippyHead showed a complete FUBAR in his post #12, but the uninteresting question is did he lie or just show how ignorant he is?

  16. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

my shot at the variable…sex in the media, and lately Internet porn.

  17. MikeN says:

So you think that there has always been a ten percent pregnancy rate among teenagers? A 7% rate among 15-17 year olds, ad a 15% rate among 18-19 year olds? That’s what Guttmacher reports.

Some idiots will believe anything and analyze nothing…

  20. MikeN says:

Isn’t this sort of distribution called sexual harassment or child abuse?

  21. GregA says:

Actually, factually, and I don’t mean to dazzle you guys with facts, but MikeN and Paddy-o are wildly out of line in their expectations, and their made up statistics have no resemblance to reality…

    Some cold hard facts.

Paddy-o, the cold hard facts say you are nearly entirely wrong. Not only are your made up statistics wildly off base, but the trend is opposite your expectations. Between 1972 and now all women accross all demographics are having fewer babies.

Did you notice that huge spike down in women under the age of 13 the 1990’s when sex-ed became part of early childhood education?

Did you notice the general increase in teen pregnancy when they taught it only as biology in the 80’s? Do you see the trend slowing down in 2000’s when they reduced the emphasis on birth control and increased abstinence only education???

I hate to say it, but Paddy-o and MikeN are entirely wrong on this issue.

  22. Paddy-O says:

    # 21 GregA said, “Not only are your made up statistcs wildly off base,…”

Umm, no. I went to 3 different high schools. And, the stats were a fraction of that.

    So, you=fail.

  23. GregA says:

Well there you have it folks. Paddy-o observations are greater than the US Census!

Oh, and is it me or did he just admit that his statistics are made up on the spot?

  24. Mr. Fusion says:

    #18, Angel

    Great find !!!

Just a reminder, DU had this back in 2007.

  25. Mr. Fusion says:

    #23, Greg,

Now that is funny. I don’t care who you are, that there is funny.

Geeze, that is a good laugh.

  26. Mr. Fusion says:

#22, Cow-Paddy, Ignorant Shit Talking Sociopath, Retired Mall Rent-A-Cop, Pretend Constitutional Scholar, Fake California Labor Law Expert, Pseudo Military Historian, Phony Climate Scientist, and Real Leading Troll Extraordinare,

Umm, no. I went to 3 different high schools. And, the stats were a fraction of that.

Three high schools and you still couldn’t get a date. Hint, High School girls generally don’t date Middle School kids.

    So, you=fail.

Oh geeze, I can’t stop laughing. And this is all Greg’s fault.

  27. MikeN says:

My stats were from the Guttmacher Institute, which I believe is considered the gold standard for this sort of thing.

  28. MikeN says:

    >but MikeN and Paddy-o are wildly out of line in their expectations, and their made up statistics have no resemblance to reality…

Your link is the exact same one that I got my numbers from. So based on your statement,
your link is wildly out of line, made up, and has no resemblance to reality.

  29. Alex Wollangk says:

Quote from the Guttmacher report linked:

    Summary

Each year, almost 750,000 teenage women aged 15–19 become pregnant. The teenage pregnancy rate in this country is at its lowest level in 30 years, down 36% since its peak in 1990. A growing body of research suggests that both increased abstinence and changes in contraceptive practice are responsible for recent declines in teenage pregnancy.

    • The teenage pregnancy rate among those who ever had intercourse declined 28% between 1990 and 2002.

    • The teenage birthrate in 2002 was 30% lower than the peak rate of 61.8 births per 1,000 women, reached in 1991.

    • Between 1988 and 2000, teenage pregnancy rates declined in every state and in the District of Columbia.

    • By 2002, the teenage abortion rate had dropped by 50% from its peak in 1988.

    • From 1986 to 2002, the proportion of teenage pregnancies ending in abortion declined more than one-quarter from 46% to 34% of pregnancies among 15–19-year-olds.

    • Among black women aged 15–19, the nationwide pregnancy rate fell by 40% between 1990 and 2002.

    • Among white teenagers, it declined by 34% during the same time period.

    • Among Hispanic teenagers, who may be of any race, the pregnancy rate increased slightly from 1991–1992, but by 2002 was 19% lower than the 1990 rate.

In general, states with the largest numbers of teenagers also had the greatest number of teenage pregnancies. California reported the highest number of adolescent pregnancies (113,000), followed by Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois (with about 37,000–80,000 each). The smallest numbers of teenage pregnancies were in Vermont, North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota and Alaska, all of which reported fewer than 2,000 pregnancies among women aged 15–19.

  30. Mr. Fusion says:

    #27, Stooopid Lyin’ Mike,

My stats were from the Guttmacher Institute, which I believe is considered the gold standard for this sort of thing.

You didn’t give us a link to where you got the statistics from so everyone is quite valid in accusing you of making them up.

If you noticed, GregA posted a link to a study where he got his information. He validated what he said and it is easy for us to see that. Your reference was not linked and we have no idea of where they came from or when.

Specifics will always trump generalities when it comes to facts.
