A Fox News video clip posted on the Internet YouTube site suggesting Canadian soldiers are weak and effeminate has raised ire among Canadians.

The 5-minute clip was from a recent broadcast of the “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld” panel show on the conservative U.S. network, Sun Media reported from Ottawa. It was in response to a Canadian general’s remark that his troops would need a year off after their combat role in the NATO mission in Afghanistan ends in 2011.

Gutfeld reported the plan with a sneer, the video shows.

“The Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white capri pants,” Gutfeld said.

The segment was posted by an unidentified Canadian who titled it “How to Lose Friends and Alienate Countries,” while conservative Ottawa commentator Geoff Norquay called it “insulting and beneath contempt.” the Sun report said.

Monday, the bodies of four Canadians killed in Afghanistan Friday were flown home. Canada has lost 116 soldiers since the NATO mission began in 2002.

American nutballs think all other conservatives don’t come down to their lack of standards.

  1. 888 says:

    CANADA HAS ANY ARMY?!

Wow, I had to read dvorak.org to learn they do have few soldiers indeed 😀

  2. Mr. Fusion says:

    #29, Maria,

Bush should have sent a few bombs raining on Paris to show who’s boss.. and forced the French to join the war alongside us.

Yup. And Americans wonder where this image of the “Ugly American” comes from. How about the French drop a few bombs on New York to bring the US to its senses.

  3. Mr. Fusion says:

    #50, ‘dro,

These are the same people that are OK when dailykook mocks US soldiers,

Can you cite an example of where the Daily Kos mocks American soldiers? No, I seldom ever visit it, but I would be interested in reading at least one article.

  4. Mr. Fusion says:

    #58, fpp2002,

You are quite incorrect concerning Canada’s involvement during WWII.

Canada’s Navy was assigned unglamorous roles of North Atlantic convoy duty. The Army landing on D-Day was largely unspectacular. Once in France, they were given mop up duty after Montgomery had gone through. The Canadian 1nd Division in Italy was an exception.

It was only the Air Force where Canadians were allowed to shine.

And Montgomery wasn’t that great a general. He defeated a tired, broken down army out of munitions and fuel, with superior fresh forces and suddenly became something special. Few veterans who fought under him held him in high regard.

  5. derspankster says:

It’s on Fox, no more need be said. I do think people are getting a “little” too upset about what this cadre of morons has to say in the middle of the night though.

  6. Mr. Fusion says:

First, conservatives have no humor. Unless you count Ann Colture (now that is funny, whatever it is).

Second, this sounds so much like most “FOX SPEWS banter; full of sarcasm and stupid comments.

Third, if a Canadian show had done something similar about American soldiers, you can bet that FOX wouldn’t be laughing.

Fourth, this is not a Comedy Show. They might have a comedian on the panel, but SNL or MAD TV this is not.

  7. fpp2002 says:

    #73, Mr. Fusion –

I didn’t say anything about Canadian’s involvement in D-Day. But now that you mention it, you underestimate their importance to the war, including their sacrifice at Dieppe, the lessons from which proved invaluable to the success of D-Day, and the actions of the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada (and other regiments) on D-Day. You say their involvement was unspectacular, but the problem is that many of their activities were not nearly as well documented as they were for the other countries. We could debate the importance of their involvement ad infinitum, but that’s a debate for another day.

And I never said Montgomery was a great general; I said he was impressed by the Canadians. He was known as a bitter crank, and a stuck up snob, too, so the fact that the Canadian forces impressed him says something about their abilities.

  8. Mr. Fusion says:

    #76, fpp,

you underestimate their importance to the war, including their sacrifice at Dieppe, the lessons from which proved invaluable to the success of D-Day,

Dieppe was a planning fiasco. Very little was learned from Dieppe that wasn’t already known. Including the point about attacking a fortified position head on, using tanks on impassable surfaces, not softening up the landing area first, and having an exit strategy for the retreat.

This was just Mountbatten’s attempt to be useful; Navy Captain planning a land attack. All those lives lost that day were wasted. I see you still fall for the “official” excuse.

At no time have I, nor would I, ever suggest Canadians did nothing during the war. They were, however, under the Supreme Command of the British Army and Navy and so played second string. Only the British Air Force used and treated Canadians with respect. Many pilots and officers were seconded between the two forces with excellent results.

Too often Canadian vehicles were stranded as their fuel went to fill British trucks. Canadian ammunition went to British units while Canadians were short and had no reserves. POWs were usually given to the Canadian units to process as they were already behind the front.

  9. qsabe says:

As a US Marine, I served with Canadian soldiers in Korea. They were and are outstanding and courageous people. If the slime balls at FOX had ever actually been in action instead of like their hero’s Bush/Cheney, been able to hide behind while others covering for their cowardice, maybe then a comment might be accepted.
The entire Canadian countries population is about the same as that of metropolitan Chicago. Not a lot of people to create a military from, yet they are always at the front.

  10. Santa Maria says:

    @ #71, Mr.Fusion

Well, I don’t understand this urge to be the “Mr. Nice Guy”. If someone calls us “Ugly Americans” – so be it.

  11. Paddy-O says:

    Why are Canadians so whiny?

  12. americanjoe says:

    #50 ,pedro

“Ashamed of what, on calling the poster of this non-story’s bluff?”

A non-story? Well take a look at how many people have commented here. Take a look at all the Canadian news sites,is the number one topic. So it should be no surprise how quickly the Canada’s Minister of Defense responded and his response.

When you treat such offensive comments as non-stories it is tantamount to an attack on the service and sacrifice of every American and Canadian solider and veteran.

By justify this attack on Canadians soldiers only give our enemy legitimacy to attack our soldiers.

Just because it is done by a liberal poster is no excuse.

  13. Mr. Fusion says:

    #71, Maria,

Well, I don’t understand this urge to be the “Mr. Nice Guy”. If someone calls us “Ugly Americans” – so be it.

You’re an asshole that has never served your country. Why do I say this? Because if you had you wouldn’t be trash talking other soldiers that dieing as they fight America’s war.

  14. Tony says:

WOW, I am not Canadian, nor really know any Canadians, but this pissed even me off. I can’t believe that this P.O.S panel is allowed to spew this garbage. It’s people like this that give our country a horrible name and make us not the “greatest country in the universe”, but instead the laughing stock of the universe.

  15. Santa Maria says:

    # 82 Mr. Fusion

You should probably get your head out of your ass before your eyes wither away and read what I posted (oh.. wipe your feces off your eyes before that)

I said the Canadians serve along with us and don’t deserve our scorn.

As for the French, I was talking about Iraq and their refusal to obey our request.

  16. Mr. Fusion says:

    #84, Maria,

As for the French, I was talking about Iraq and their refusal to obey our request.

Yup. Still the bully asshole. Never served. Probably picked on at school by the bigger kids three grades higher but the same age. Still living half your life fighting ogres in some fantasy computer game.

The French KNEW there were no WMDs in Iraq.

  17. Santa Maria says:

    #85 Mr. Fusion

Look who’s the one who started calling names? And (s)he’s the one talking about being an asshole and a bully. Oh, the irony.

As for the French, who cares what they knew or not. They enjoy our magnanimous protection under NATO; they should have joined us when we went on a mission that we righteously believed in.

  18. Mr. Fusion says:

    #86, Maria said

I’m an asshole, I’m an asshole

Where do you get the wee asshole.

  19. Santa Maria says:

    #87 Mr. Fusion

Look at #85. You brought it into the discussion. You’re the one fascinated by ’em… Don’t assume everyone else around you shares your fetish.

  20. chuckles says:

    @ # 33

    Hahahahahahah….I thought it was funny….

  21. GRP says:

Dead soldiers isn’t comedy. Santa Maria is probably the most ignorant/stupidest human being I have ever heard from.
