Sorry, but Al Gore sounds like he’s a flabbergasted 12-year-old trying to sound smart.

  1. algore says:

I heard buttered toast eaten before 8 am causes a drought in odd numbered years in the sudan…

  2. GregA says:

Hahaha, I even told you I was baiting you before hand, and you were dazzled by my kung-fu, and you LOST!!!

Lol, does that make you a retard? I think it does.

  3. Dallas says:

Was the goal was to find 7 climatologist to contradict Al Gore and then declare the case closed?

Mission Failed and pretty pathetic. This issue is too serious to do nothing about because of a ‘gut feel’ pollutants are not contributing to climate change.

The world has been burning fossil fuels into the atmosphere 24×7 for the last 60+ years. I’d rather err on the side of safety for my future loved ones.

  4. GF says:

It doesn’t matter. The Indians and the Chinese are becoming industrial powerhouses and will do whatever they want. So, getting an ulcer every time you see a Hummer drive by is just plain stupid.

  5. MikeN says:

When challenged to a debate by Bjorn Lomborg, Al Gore declined. In general, the scientists don’t go for straightforward debate, they prefer to exaggerate and lie to the public, because in their mind it’s more important to scare the public into action.

  6. MikeN says:

    Dr Syun Akasofu:

The global average temperature stopped increasing after 2000 against the IPCC’s prediction of continued rapid increase. It is a plain fact and does not require any pretext. Their failure stems from the fact that the IPCC emphasized the greenhouse effect of CO2 by slighting the natural causes of temperature changes.

The changes of the global average temperature during the last century and the first decade of the present century can mostly be explained by two natural causes, a linear increase which began in about 1800 and the multi-decadal oscillation superposed on the linear increase. There is not much need for introducing the CO2 effect in the temperature changes. The linear increase is the recovery (warming) from the Little Ice Age (LIA), which the earth experienced from about 1400 to 1800.

The halting of the temperature rise during the first decade of the present century can naturally be explained by the fact that the linear increase has been overwhelmed by the superposed multi-decadal oscillation which peaked in about 2000.*

  7. MikeN says:

Gore uses the Maldives as the moral case for climate change, saying they’re suffering from sea level rise, but sea level there has actually dropped.

  8. Harry Sack says:

We all know CO2 doesn’t cause climate change. CO2 is plant food for crying out loud.

  9. MikeN says:

Passive smoking doesn’t cause cancer. What’s your point?

  10. MikeN says:

Historically, CO2 levels go up hundreds of years AFTER temperature went up, not before. Higher temperature causes higher CO2, and that’s what the temperature record shows happening.

The current climate models supposedly account for this, and end up with the results as the ones that don’t account for it. Just like when they add in the effect of the sun.

Yet their models aren’t very accurate, and the ones that base temperature based on the sun’s activity are the accurate ones.

  11. Hugh Ripper says:

Ahh the never end cycle of corporate leeches trying to profit from disaster. This is no scientific debate. This is marketing.

Another perfect example why private enterprise and government (often hand in hand) cannot be trusted. Its disgusting.

  12. Nimby says:

MikeN said, “In general, the scientists don’t go for straightforward debate, they prefer to exaggerate and lie to the public…” Uhm, sorta kinda like Al Gore?

It’s hard to argue with geniuses like #19 “…gore is essentially right where the (not really) scientists are either wrong or lying.” Or #6 “Al Gore is right though. Deny all you want but it is happening, the evidence is overwhelming.” Both are obviously too ignorant to educate and will follow their Saint Gore right over the edge. There is simply no way to convince them of the truth : global temperatures are FALLING!

These things are cyclical and if you want to know the truth try two things:
    1) follow the money
    2) look to the sun

  13. FirstTimeCaller says:

CO2 has no effect on temperature? Someone please alert the planet Venus. It has been suffering with 900 degree (F) temperatures needlessly all these years!

  14. TThor says:

Yet the politicians will impose CO2 trading mechanisms and create the new “world order” and shall announce billions and billions in taxes, trade and production restrictions….. What am I missing here, or to what purpose is the deception constructed?
Ever time there is a ‘debate’ about this issue those opposing CO2 as the big threat are either marginalized, depicted as idiots or lunatics… This starts resembling the ages of Inquisition where nobody except the Church had a right to an opinion.
Why are the CO2 lobby so afraid of an open debate? Afraid that the Emperors New Clothes are revealed…..?

  15. Charbax says:

Those scientists are obviously corrupt. Who actually knows who those supposed scientists are?

  16. Deep Throat says:

I stand corrected. For those not brain dead, follow the money. End of discussion.

  17. Pop Rocks says:

seems to me like its over 100 Climate Scientists for 7 or so against

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/27/AR2006062700780.html

If I were a betting man the odds don’t look good for this Fox News/Daily Show style edited “we debate you decide” piece.

Controlling the polluters pollutants has so many other benefits why not just do it.
It’s like maintaining a healthy body weight YOU KNOW ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO but will you?

  18. BubbaRay says:

    # 42 FirstTimeCaller, I guess that CO2 argument for Venus is a winner. Here’s the Martian atmosphere:

    Carbon Dioxide (CO2) – 95.32%
    Nitrogen (N2) – 2.7%
    Argon (Ar) – 1.6%
    Oxygen (O2) – 0.13%
    Carbon Monoxide (CO) – 0.08%

Want to guess at Mars’s average temp? Gee, I wonder if the Sun has anything to do with this “global warming.”

  19. Cursor_ says:

Anyone who has studied the age of the dinosaur will remember that carbon dioxide was at higher levels than they are currently.

Now that should be enough for Texans of course.

But for us living outside of the country of Texas; The earth survived it and so did the mammals that evolved into hominids.

Life will adapt, even humans, so long as there is not some panic over trying to live the way our fore bearers did for 500 years before. We embrace change and move on. If we resist it we die. End of story.

    Cursor_

  20. ByGeorgeivGotit says:

The best thing algore could do to stop global warming is to STFU! I appreciate being lectured about my offensive behavior by one of the worlds worst offenders! Now if everyone changes their lightbulbs in time that famous polar bear might make it back to shore on his little iceberg. Yay!

  21. ArianeB says:

Wow MikeN and Cursor are drinking the Kool-aid again. The anti-GW crowd has no scientific leg to stand on so they make stuff up, and pass it around to other “deniers” who suck it up as fact.

#34 Gore declined to debate because the scientific facts are not debatable anymore. Naysayers like Lomborg are just looking for attention.
#35 BULLSHIT!! The variations in temperature over the last decade are within the GW model. 1997 was an unusually hot year and 2007 was an unusually cold year. Comparing those years alone does not mean temps are falling.
#36 Pure lie. Most of the Arctic melting has been over water which does not raise the sea level at all. But there is melting happening on land as well (Greenland etc.) which is trending the sea level up. There are daily tidal cycles as well as annual cycles, but the general trend world wide is up.
#39 That is pure sleight of hand misdirection that denies the actual cause of our CO2 problem: WE ARE CAUSING IT! Trying to make the case that CO2 does not cause warming is like trying to deny water is wet.

#48 The earths temps during the Dinosaur age were the hottest ever as well.
“We embrace change and move on. If we resist it we die. End of story.”
So Cursor, does that mean you are a “Liberal” now?

  22. joaoPT says:

    FUD

    either way…

  23. Nimby says:

#42 FirstTimeCaller – Yes the athmosphere of Venus is mostly carbon dioxide, as is Mars. They have no green plant life to lock down any of it. But Venus also has a huge amount of sulphuric acid in the atmosphere and a surface pressure about 90 times as great as Earth. Higher pressure, higher temperatures. Oh, and one other small thing: it’s about 25 million miles closer to that big hot thing in the sky.
While Venus has > 96% CO2 the Earth has < 0.04%. I’d say we have a ways to go. In fact, before nasty man started driving around in his SUVs, the CO2 levels on Earth often rose as high as 1000 ppm. We’re cruising along in a CO2 drought right now at less than 300ppm.

ArianeB – You gotta learn, Sweetie, that just because you say it, don’t prove it true! You wanna make wild statements in favor of GW, cite your references. Would a professor of physics at Princeton UNiversity carry any weight with you? Nah. I didn’t think so. Didn’t with Gore, either. In fact, Gore fired him when he disagreed with him. Can’t have any opposition viewpoints or independent thought. (Google Dr Will Happer if you’re not afraid of having your eyes opened.)

The problem is, some well-meaning people were worrried about climate change. They garnered the help of some well-known and influential people. Before you know it, opinion was being treated as fact and lemmings like you followed right along spouting the party line and afraid or unable to think for yourselves.

Now, sadly, there is so much money wrapped up in the climate catastrophe movement, I fear we’ll never get clear of it despite the growing number of climate scientists trying to spread an opposing view. What do you suppose is causing global warming on other planets in our system? Cause it is happening at the same time and rate as on Earth.

Give this nice article a read, then go have a nice glass of warm milk and a nap. http://tiny.cc/HWqya

  24. Mr. Fusion says:

Follow the money? Why are the ijits asking this? The deniers are being paid by the huge oil companies, coal companies, coal fired generators, and the companies that support their industries. They are the ones that wish this would all go away so they might continue raping the planet for profit.

    *

NOTE TO IJITS:, Weather and climate are not synonymous. Weather is the specific meteorological condition in a specified frame of time, generally an hour, while climate is the general meteorological conditions over the course of a long time.

The fact that it rained in Southern California today does not change the fact that it is generally considered a dry climate.

  25. Mr. Fusion says:

    #52, Nimby,

ArianeB – You gotta learn, Sweetie, that just because you say it, don’t prove it true! You wanna make wild statements in favor of GW, cite your references.

Very good advice. The part I have difficulty with is where you don’t cite any references yourself. Then at the end of your unsubstantiated rant, you cite a blog. A blog? Is that the best the deniers can do is reference material from wackos and the tin foil crowd? So when you look at some of the headlines they posted, here are the top three.

Old men chasing young women: A good thing

Spearmint tea — A possible treatment for hairy women

Sexy Women Make Everyone Feel Bad

I realize you think we are all as gullible and stupid as a right wing nut, but please, you are just effen mistaken. Almost all of us can differentiate between garbage and good, scientific facts.

  26. Dallas says:

#53 excellent points but is anyone listening?

Remember, it took how many years before smoking was declared a health hazard? And that was against a few piss-ant US tobacco companies.

This fight is global with much bigger $takes.

The only solution is to make clean energy use profitable. Otherwise, the current oligopoly of pollutant energy producers will continue the propaganda.

  27. Mr. Fusion says:

For all the deniers that want to see some true scientific explanation for the Global Warming trend, read this. It is in plain language that even ijits shouldn’t have too much trouble with.

It is complete with 136 references.

  28. Glidedon says:

If Al Gore is right the solution is to get rid of the humans.

    You go first.

  29. Tim Yates says:

This all proves one thing, there is no consensus as Al Gore claims.

Al has staked his entire life to this purpose and there is no way in hell he is going to allow his good name be synonymous with failure, snake oil, Elmer Gantry and good ole Bullshit. He truly is a man on fire.

btw – seems to me that as temps rise co2 increases and then the temps fall again. Oh no! We need co2 or the temps will increase even more!
