That line is for you. No YOU! No YOU!

Irish prime minister Brian Cowen repeats Barack Obama speech as White House teleprompter fouls up | guardian.co.uk — This whole teleprompter thing may as well be replaced by lip sync-ing.

But when Brian Cowen began his address last night, his speech had a horribly familiar ring to it. And no wonder: he had been repeating exactly what Obama had said minutes earlier.

The autocue was apparently the cause of this embarrassing case of deja vu. Rather than being ready with Cowens speech, the teleprompting machine simply reloaded the one Obama had just given.

Cowen was around 20 seconds into the wrong speech before he realised his gaffe. He stopped suddenly and looked back at the president to say: “Thats your speech.”

I’d like to see Newt Gingrich debate Obama’s Teleprompter.

  2. Ron Larson says:

ewwww…. 20 seconds of someone else’s speech. Stop the Presses! Obama as failed as president!

It’s not like Obama threw up in his lap or something.

    BFD

  3. Mr Diesel says:

Obomba has already demonstrated that he can’t address a serious issue without a prompter.

Had this been the other way around Obomba probably wouldn’t have noticed it all and just made some sort of lying proclamation about it being his speech the whole time.

At least he picked a press secretary that stutters and bumbles as much as he does.

  4. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Mr Deisel, in a face-to-face between you and Obama, you know your odds, right?

Teleprompter or not, at least he won’t fill entire website with malapropisms. In his first year.

  5. Cap'nKangaroo says:

“Although used for more than half a century, the device was previously employed mainly for set-piece speeches. The current president, however, often uses them for making small introductory statements at the beginning of press conferences.”

From the picture it looks like Michelle thought it very amusing.

  6. contempt says:

It’s official – Obama is now the dumbest president in history. He should just sit on the teleprompters lap and let it move his lips like a dummy.

Oh wait, except for the sitting part – he does.

  7. bobbo says:

What is this Luddite hysteria regarding teleprompters? Would the same complaint exist with functionally the same thing as prepared notes?

Silly Hoomans. Dazed by bright lights, substance over their heads.

  8. Paddy-O says:

#6 I wonder if he uses one in the bedroom with Michelle? Could be why she finds it so funny…

  9. bobbo says:

    #7–contempt as usual.

  10. Paddy-O says:

Here’s Obama when caught without a teleprompter:

  11. Sea Lawyer says:

Public speaking is all a big sham anyway. Not only do these people not write their own scripts, but the prompters are designed to produce the appearance that they aren’t even reading from one.

  12. bobbo says:

Do you dreaming asstards think the Harvard Law School for has the same standards for lower class black applicants as does the Harvard Business School for the white East Coast Business and Governmental elites?

You think you are even qualified to run the teleprompter for Obama?

Really? From asstards to fantasists. Take the aluminum foil off. oops. Too late.

  13. JimR says:

Public speaking is all a big sham anyway. Not only do these people not write their own scripts, but the prompters are designed to produce the appearance that they aren’t even reading from …

… oh dear, this is embarrassing. That’s your post prompter Sea Lawyer.

  14. chuck says:

Ok, so people have started to notice that Obama can’t say anything without a teleprompter.

How long will it be before people realize that Obama has never said anything (of significance) either with or without a teleprompter?

Just take a few meaningless phrases, throw in “Hope”, “Change” and a few “Look”‘s and “Let me be perfectly clear” and all his speeches start to sound the same.

I will give him credit: Obama is clean and articulate. Bush could barely complete a sentence.

  15. Sea Lawyer says:

    #14, lolol.

  16. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Just remember the bonehead you guys elected in 2000….he was so bad that he didn’t do hardly any press conferences at all, and every time he spoke off the cuff it was a sound bite waiting to happen. There really wasn’t any brain inside that pinhead. Maybe Obama relies on this technology more than anyone before, but that doesn’t justify any of the wing-nut comments here.

And, how many of you have ever delivered speeches to real, live, breathing audiences? Audiences that may not have been friendly? And had to answer questions?

  17. Paddy-O says:

    # 18 Olo Baggins of Bywater said, “And, how many of you have ever delivered speeches to real, live, breathing audiences? Audiences that may not have been friendly? And had to answer questions?”

Countless times. Never with a teleprompter. It’s difficult but shouldn’t be beyond someone who is the PotUS.

  18. bobbo says:

Harvard Law Grad = idiot for sure.

  19. Paddy-O says:

    #21 Well said.

  20. contempt says:

Harvard Law Grad my butt! Can you see him in a courtroom thinking on his feet without a teleprompter? I think not.

Q:What about the Obamanation is genuine?
    A:He’s a genuine fraud.

  21. brian t says:

Funny how no-one’s saying anything about the other guy in the room: Mr. Cowen. He’s in a slightly Obamaesque* situation, having taken over a country’s leadership role just in time for it to take a nosedive.

Considering how a politicians every syllable is pored over and analysed to death and back again: are you surprised to see Obama speaking from a script. If you don’t give people latitude to screw up occasionally, as people do, that’s what you get. It’s like seeing “caution hot” on coffee cups, and “may contain peanuts” on every food item in the store: if you make normal human mistakes a crime, the lawyers come out and lock everything down.

    * is that a word? Well, it is now, fnarr.

    >>Funny how no-one’s saying anything about the other guy in the room.

You make a good point. It seems to hinge on how Obama returned and read Cowen’s speech, then even at the point of thanking himself was unaware of his Barney Frank moment.

  23. Harry Sack says:

    ROFL

I just think this is just too funny. It would be great to hijack the teleprompter remotely and really mess Obama up. For crying out loud, you need the teleprompter to say “Thank you…”

I do think it is a problem for a President to not be able to give a speech without a teleprompter. Does this mean the President doesn’t have time to rehearse speeches? He had time to set up his NCAA tourny picks on ESPN, I would think he could spend a half hour or so memorizing a speech.

  24. bobbo says:

I’ll put this teleprompter issue right up there with the dittohead retard wingnut fascination over Obama’s birth certificate.

Can Rush lead you idiots anywhere he wants or do you in fact have some standards somewhere?

  25. Mr Diesel says:

    #4 OBoB

I would venture a guess that the public speaking I have done would more than hold its own against someone who says uh or well uh all the time.

Actually I have talked before crowds and have taken questions. I am well spoken and articulate and could easily give a presentation without a prompter.

But alas, I’m not the stumbling for words boob president either so I guess I don’t count.

  26. Mr. Fusion says:

I guess Boss Limpdick really went off on this one today, judging by the way the ditto heads are all blathering.

  27. Kanjy says:

Does nobody have any video of this?

  28. Robart says:

    Scotch, scotch, scotch….I love scotch.

  29. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Kanjy…check with russw…apparently it’s being suppressed by the liberal media who are in the tank for Obama.

  30. TreeBeard says:

    I’m Ron Burgandy…Go F@#$ Yourself SanDiego!
