A Saudi Arabian court has sentenced a 75-year-old Syrian woman to 40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the kingdom for having two unrelated men in her house.
According to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan, troubles for the woman, Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi, began last year when a member of the religious police entered her house in the city of Al-Chamli and found her with two unrelated men, “Fahd” and “Hadian.”
Fahd told the policeman that he had the right to be there, because Sawadi had breast-fed him as a baby and was therefore considered to be a son to her in Islam, according to Al-Watan. Fahd, 24, added that his friend Hadian was escorting him as he delivered bread for the elderly woman. The policeman then arrested both men…
The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, feared by many Saudis, is made up of several thousand religious policemen charged with duties such as enforcing dress codes, prayer times and segregation of the sexes. Under Saudi law, women face many restrictions, including a strict dress code and a ban on driving. Women also need to have a man’s permission to travel…
The problem recurs with theocracies. This is their preferred method of ruling the superstitious and ignorant.
Remember stories like this everytime you see some “prince” from the House of Saud visiting with American Dignitaries.
I’ll enjoy seeing Hillaries interaction with them as well. If she can hide the gag reflex, she will demonstrate why I disrespect her for being the political whore that she is.
Not that much difference between being a whore, politician, or diplomat.
In addition to being the model society exemplified by this story, it was Saudis who planned and executed the 9/11 attacks.
So, naturally, Bush invades Iraq. (After all, his most important business buddies are whipping 75 year-old women)
The right-wing in this country will swallow absolutely anything. And they wonder why they have the reputation for being drooling idiots.
Not a problem. If that is the law then so be it. It may be morally wrong but that is not the issue. In that place and at this time the Islamic law is forced through the sword. If people don’t like it then they can decide not to follow. If at some point everyone leaves the cult then the leaders and their punishment will have no power.
Power only exists when people allow it by following and supporting it. This applies to the US as well.
#5, Alphie,
The problem is the right wing nut evangelicals want America to follow the same path.
Obama is NOT a fan of Saudi Arabia. The only reason we have been friends with them over the past 28 years if for their oil. This all the more reason to go green and get us off of foreign oil.
#6, Alphie,
Damn girl, take your meds before your head explodes.
Why the Moses clip? Pretty lame.
Where does it come from?
Religious nut bags, repuglican base, anti-stem cell, bible thumpers.
And they think we can drill for oil/gas to be energy self sufficient?
Its not in the bible, so how does all this shit get put into one bag?
@ #4:
“If people don’t like it then they can decide not to follow.”
Ummm no, not in practice anyway. Since leaving the religion is punishable by death you are kinda screwed.
#14–Alfie==I’ll make you a deal. Find one link that evidences your point and I’ll read any chapter in the bible you command.
As a point: If you had said “Developed our Coal reserves” I would not have posted.
So, as first stated, where is this bag of shit you pull this crap out of?????
Until then, it is of scatological and epistemological interest to me why I find your religious stupidity a rung or two below Mr Mustards. Same crap, but, I guess his is a bit more spicey? Spice. Love that spice.
Sharia is for small-minded people who long for medieval times. Oh, but islam is a religion of peace! Something about wearing dresses themselves makes men act all bitchy towards women I suppose.
can we just nuke the entire place and get it over with? Then just cover the hole with sand. it’ll keep the radiation in
Ahhhh, our barbaric “allies,” isn’t it just a hoot and a paradise on Earth?! 🙂
Let’s give a Saudi diplomat 40 lashes just for the fun of it, see how he likes it…tell’em its in our religion to flog anybody for any reason.
I can’t decide if Alfred1 is a bad troll or just exceeding moranic.
@Alfred1
Don’t be so hard on yourself. I am sure your problem can be managed with anti-psychotic medication.
#20–Alfred==well done, thank you. On point, consistent with what you posted. Not “proven” of course, but close enough. Not like Paddy-O-Zero at all.
Onward to John for my appropriate penance.
Slut!!!
bobbo said, “#14–Alfie==where is this bag of shit you pull this crap out of?????”
It’s inverted and inserted. He pulls the UFOs and Matrix and bible interpretations straight out of his ass.
Sorry. I don’t like myself much when I get this way. Well, on my side of the world, it’s nearly midnight. I think I’ll fix myself a lovely non-Islamic beverage, read some very non-biblical literature and then sleep. I suspect by morning, Alfie will have posted much foolishness. I truly wonder if he’s a true believer or just an ugly green troll.
Good night.
Looks to me that putting up the Mel Brooks clip is just meant to mock God’s “laws” in general, regardless of denomination. A lot of Brooks’ movies have been kinda ‘eh’ to me, but I think I’ll rent that one to see if their are any more gems in it. Self-deprecating Jewish humor is some of the finest on the planet. I’m from a WASP background and to me the Christian religion is an unfortunate embarrassment at best (the music and the architecture excepted, of course)
As far as other cultures are concerned, it’s a good idea to try to put yourself in their place: (thought balloon) “Those westerners constantly make fun of themselves and others…and their leaders…and even their Gods, too! How horrible!”
But hey, they’re perfectly intelligent people on average just like us, but they had to go from a nomadic existence to being controllers of the world’s energy in 80 years or so. Pretty steep and narrow learning curve there, I’d say.

Interesting, but nonsensical.
#19, Improbus,
Isn’t that the definition of a right wing nut?
Rather gives “infidels” a good name.
You think 40 lashes to an old woman is bad? In “civilized” atheistic Canada it is actually legal to stick knives in and kill a child just moments before birth.
3. Wretched Gnu
The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City was the biggest act of terrorism before 9/11. And by your Saudi/9-11 “reasoning” that says what about Americans?
“Naturally, Bush invades Iraq” because Iraq invaded one of its strategic allies, Kuwait. Or did you conveniently forget about that?
Now tell me what Obama’s “most important business buddies” are doing to their citizens:
US Trade:
China: $345.45 Billion
Saudi Arabia: $59.32 Billion
You see how you can be so wrong even without a bible?
16 Rob. Are you talking about the Scottish who wear dresses that makes men act all bitchy towards women ? Or the Americans who think they are so cool in male sarongs? http://tinyurl.com/59og84

Alfred 1, That’s a great link. Specially the line “undeveloped reserves are not listed as proven reserves”.
So there really is more oil out there!
Bored Duck, I think you hit the nail on the head. No matter how much we want, we cannot expect a medieval culture to join the 21st century in 80 years. Perhaps in another 100 or so?
What does this say about the war on terrorism?
#17
I’ve advocated using neutron bombs on the Entire Middle East for about 20 years now. The more I hear/read about the region the more convinced I am that it is a moral imperative that the population there be eliminated. It just might give the rest of the world a chance to survive.
#34 – If we can’t quarantine the area it might be the only alternative…
33 Ah_Yea
“What does this say about war on terrorism?”
I dunno. Let’s listen to Dear Leader Obama:
“President Obama declared yesterday that combat operations in Iraq will end in 18 months.”
“…help lay a foundation for lasting peace and security.”
“…to develop a country “that is sovereign, stable, and self-reliant.””
http://tinyurl.com/amm52l
Whoa. Mission Accomplished. And who would have thought it possible so soon? Bush gets to catch Oliver Stone’s “W” hit after all.

Will this be on pay-per-view?
#1 – actually there is one difference between a whore, and a politician or diplomat:
You f*ck the whore.
The politician or diplomat f*cks you.
#32 RBG wrote, “You think 40 lashes to an old woman is bad? In ‘civilized’ atheistic Canada it is actually legal to stick knives in and kill a child just moments before birth.”
Cripes, that sounds as bad as some of the evil acts described in the mythology from your own religion, except that in those tales, the evil was portrayed as righteous acts of obedience to a Creator who ordered the slaughters. If you’re going to link your own morality to that of the deity you worship, you better get used to being covered in mud. In the end, the nail in the coffin of religion will prove to be the printing press and internet, which enable those of us with a remaining modicum of objectivity to see just how evil and bloody your deity’s history is.
Except what I write is no myth. Use your “objectivity” to get your head around that.
