VOA News – Snow Storm Pounds Northeastern United States — Geez, it’s March already and this?

A powerful late-winter snow storm pounded the northeastern United States Monday, cutting power to thousands of homes and grounding hundreds of flights.

Forecasters predicted up to 30 centimeters of snow in several northeastern states. Strong winds also swept across the region. Municipal workers drove salt trucks and snow plows to clear roads, but motorists still faced hazardous conditions during the morning commute. Many bus services were canceled. U.S. authorities closed schools in several states and delayed the opening of federal offices in Washington.

Heavy snow forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights at airports in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

On Sunday, the storm swept through the southern U.S. states of Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, bringing unusually heavy snowfall to the region.

Come on John. Didn’t you know that actual temperature has NOTHING to do with global warming temps.

At least that’s what the nutballs are saying now that temps are falling globally…

  2. Cap'nKangaroo says:

And when it is 105 degrees in Dallas in August, will you confirm global warming? Didn’t think so.

  3. Paddy-O says:

    # 2 Cap’nKangaroo said, “And when it is 105 degrees in Dallas in August, will you confirm global warming? Didn’t think so.”

Not while snow is falling in the San Fernando valley, before wintertime. 3rd year in a row…

  4. Holy Shit! says:

They closed down the public schools in NYC. Kids these days are getting wimpier and wimpier.

  5. Paddy-O says:

    # 2 Cap’nKangaroo said, “And when it is 105 degrees in Dallas in August,”

BTW, if temp are continually climbing, how come Dallas STILL hasn’t surpassed the record high temps in 1936?

If temps are climbing EVERY year and not backsliding, this situation would be impossible.

  6. bobbo says:

#5–Paddy==Its called WORLD WIDE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE===not every fricking place you know of all the time.

I’m not convinced of global warming, but the idiosyncratic arguments against it are totally lame.

  7. chris says:

I hate that weak euro snow that comes in cm, real snow falls in inches.

  8. Rabble Rouser says:

    YAWN!
It’s not unusual for a snow storm to hit New England in March.

And for those of you calling it “Global Warming,” the correct phrase is Climate Change, because not all areas will warm.

  9. Paddy-O says:

    # 6 bobbo said, “Its called WORLD WIDE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE”

    Really?

According to the NOAA, the hottest year EVER recorded was 1936. So, I guess the US is cooling but the rest of the globe is warming. Riiiight. LOL

  10. Paddy-O says:

    # 8 Rabble Rouser said, “the correct phrase is Climate Change, because not all areas will warm.”

Actually, the revised phrase is Climate Change. This is because it became an embarrassment to the eco nuts when it was shown that temps have fallen since ’36. The name change occurred to preserve funding grants.

  11. morty says:

Hey. At least we got to hear about weather outside of Northern Silicon Valley for a change.

  12. RBG says:

It’s Climate Change You Can Believe In but without the warming part.

    RBG

  13. impala79 says:

Yeah first of all, a huge snowstorm back east in March, especially the beginning of March, is NOT uncommon! I remember in elementary school in the very early 90s we had 3 snow days in a row at the end of March because of a blizzard in upstate NY!

And second, the “global climate change” is more accurate – hotter in some places, colder in other. The question is if this is just a natural temperature swing, or is it caused/accelerated by we humans. Either way, this storm is no evidence for or against any global warming/climate change claims!

  14. QB says:

Snow day! Of course, Bart is in the basement slapping himself.

  15. Paddy-O says:

    # 12 RBG said, “It’s Climate Change You Can Believe In but without the warming part.”

    That makes sense. Thanks.

  16. bill says:

Do you mean to tell me that the weather ‘changes’? Except for LA of course. Actually, Beverly Hills…

  17. SimonSezz says:

Here in Chicago we say “March roars in like a Lion, and leaves like a lamb”

Sometimes the biggest snow storms are in the beginning of March around here.

  18. Proud Alien says:

Call it what you wish: to deny that the human activity has severely impacted the environment, including the climate, is beyond stupid.

  19. Paddy-O says:

    # 18 Proud Alien said, “Call it what you wish:”

Umm, so how have we severely impacted it? And, what is the manifestation of this impact?

So far the “model” put forward by the eco-nuts says we caused warming. Well, the records show that cooling is happening, since ’36. So, what scientific model are you referring too? Does it show warming or cooling?

  20. hale_bopp says:

And its about 20 degrees above average here today, so I guess that proves global warming? Does anyone here understand long term statistics?

  21. Paddy-O says:

    # 20 Proud Alien said, “# 19: Well, not according to a vast amount of scientific research and data. Here are a few examples:”

So, you’re saying that the globe is warming but not the U.S.A. as the record year is STILL 1936.

  22. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

#20 Alien….Patty is a troll who is always right. Ignore it.

I hate that weak euro snow that comes in cm, real snow falls in inches.

Real snow falls in feet. Here, we’ve got ten of them so far. Hopefully that’s it, because I’m getting sick of this crap.

Climate and weather, two very different things.

  23. Proud Alien says:

    # 22: Thanks for the warning. I am familiar with his posts and I know that he is hopeless. I enjoy the twisted logic in his posts, though, for pure entertainment value and he never fails to deliver.

  24. Paddy-O says:

    # 22 Olo Baggins of Bywater said, “Climate and weather, two very different things.”

Correct. However, temperature is temperature and the inescapable FACT is that 1936 is the hottest year in the USA on record.

Another inescapable FACT is that if there has been overall warming since then, 1936 wouldn’t be the hottest year on record.

You may now return to name calling in lieu of logic.

  25. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Alien…drop the www from the links.

  26. horacesmiley says:

I love how otherwise intelligent people can’t wrap their heads around the climate debate.

First off, if you have 6.5 billion people each taking a dump, let’s say, every day; and each dump weighing conservatively half a pound: that’s 3.25 billion pounds of poop the human race produces each day.

Over 365 days a year, that’s 1,186 billion pounds of shit.

All that gets released back into Mother Nature, a form of fecal wildlife regaining its freedom. Dare we mention the gallons of urine. Now, if you take these basic indicators, peeing and pooping, and carry them across a human population this size, think of the non-fundamentals, the countless piles of trash, the acres upon acres of pavement, the trillions of tons of chemical waste.

The idea that humans are having no impact on the environment, or perhaps just a little teeny weeny one, is pathetic.

Do I think the gov’t is now using “global” “climate” “change” now as a new reason to enslave and oppress? No doubt. Do I think scientists are a bunch of skinny, vegetable-eating Cassandras crying one minutes about the new Global Ice Age, and the next about Global Warming? Absolutely.

The truth is that the world is overdue for a new ice age, and that man-made contributions to the environment are making the globe as a closed system unpredictable. Either what we’ll have over the next hundred years is runaway warming with countless tons of water melted off the poles, changing coast lines OR we will have a sudden climate change event like a superstorm to reset to global environment and wipe out the northern hemisphere with it.

Sounds too bizarre? Nature’s a bitch. Tell that it’s too bizarre to the people at Pompeii, or Krakatoa, or buried under Bangladeshi mudslides.

Some of you morons can’t figure out how global-wide warming can result in local cooling, i.e. your ugly backyards getting cooler.

Here’s a simple equation for you:

    x = x + 1

This is an example, roughly, of a non-linear equation. You drop in a ‘1’ on the right-hand side, and what do you get? x = 2. If x = 2, then you have to put in a 2 on the right-hand side, and you get x = 3. And so on. Climate is not a direct linear cause-and-effect system. Over millions of years it settled on its current configuration, and now Man, as well as its own tendencies, has it starting to go apeshit. The “average” global temperature may be increasing while your mother’s ass is frozen like a Butterball turkey in some town where it’s twenty below in June and it’s supposed to be ninety degrees.

So: Don’t believe the idiots and liars telling you global climate change is happening? Good. Doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

  27. Paul says:

45cm of snow has fallen in southern Milwaukee, WI, since early this morning. Why has that gone underreported?

  28. BigBoyBC says:

Don’t know about global warming, but that’s a pretty picture…
