A cartoon likening the author of the stimulus bill, perhaps President Barack Obama, with a rabid chimpanzee graced the pages of the New York Post on Wednesday. The drawing, from famed cartoonist Sean Delonas, is rife with violent imagery and racial undertones. In it, two befuddled-looking police officers holding guns look over the dead and bleeding chimpanzee that attacked a woman in Stamford, Connecticut.

“They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill,” reads the caption.

An email to Delonas and a call to the New York Post went unreturned. The cartoon appears both on the New York Post website and page 12 of the Wednesday paper. At its most benign, the cartoon suggests that the stimulus bill was so bad, monkeys may as well have written it. Others believe it compares the president to a rabid chimp. Either way, the incorporation of violence and (on a darker level) race into politics is bound to be controversial. Perhaps that’s what Delonas wanted.

Huh….what were they thinking?

  6. TRYING TO BE OBJECTIVE says:

It would take a person of reason to understand that there is intentional slander, and that that comes from stupidity. You must understand that the photo did not just show up in the paper but their were many check points and processes before it went to final print. The Post intended on the back lash and publicity that it is recieving about this article as it’s Editor and Chief claim plausible deniability.
We are a nation of sensationalist that take every opportunity to argue points, debate the intentions of rights and wrongs, and yet hide behind computer screens and do nothing about the same injustices in communities all around this nation. Was the cartoon openly racial comment directed at our President and all black people, i don’t think so. How stupid could a public personality be?? I think it was a attempt to say that the stimulus bill and the process is getting out of hand, and that the process is turning Rabid. I think that there were plenty of other ways to do it, so I question the IQ of such a published author. He got what he wanted, just wonder if it will be worth if if he suffers the same fate as many others who walked that line and lost in the end. Buy the way I am african american.

  7. Trying to be objective says:

Wretched how you close this case based on the writing of 102. There are decent and understanding intellegent people who realize the sensitivity of these type of issues, you and your opinions and 102 do not represent the thought process of 99% of white america, and do not represent 100% of black america. So mabe you and the other 120,000 backward people should start a convent and begin your on race, that by the way self destruct in 200 years from canabelism.

  8. Paddy-O says:

    #102. Bingo.

  9. steven stryker says:

hey 107 99% of whites are sick of blacks bitching.slavery is over go to work no more free rides. if you really want to help check out the figures for black on white crime and do something about that teach the african americans or anyone else that doesn’t have enough money for a down payment or a job that they can’t buy a house. listen to the rap lyrics that are being pumped into our kids heads. you know first it was negro then it was black then it was africian american and now it is people of color how do blacks claim that title white is a color too, how’s that for sensitivity. if a black wants to be president he’s got to take the heat that goes with it and quit using the excuse that people don’t agree with him are raceist. i don’t like obama not because he’s black but because he doesn’t know what he is doing and if his policies are followed he will fuck up this country. he said what he had to say to get into office and now his true colors are coming out. obama is an empty suit black con man.

Anyone figure the same people offended by the ambiguous NY Post cartoons were also outraged alongside Muslims offended by the depictions of Muhammad by the Danish Jyllands-Posten cartoons?

  13. Trying to be objective says:

Narrow minded, uninformed people are always easy to find in here because they hide behind what they are afraid to say in the face of people theat they really fear. There are only a few of the 99% of white people represented here. I never (not in my entire life) claimed that black people are disadvantaged, for Gods sake we kill more of our own than you do. There is a fundemental problem that needs to be fixed with in us, and that is my real feelings. I beleive there is still racism in the land but it is a very very small percentage of whites, probably less than 001%. This is a new day. People like Al Sharpton, and others live for opportnities like this to push their own agenda. The Rev does not speak for us all. Probably less than 2%. So I say to you Steven Stryker, and anybody else who thinks that we are a people of excuses, we are not, we are a people of great pride and determination who simply want to put it all in the past. You will notice that President Obama has made no public mention of this whole issue, because he doesn’t see him self as a rabid monkey, and he did WRITE the bill. Presidents don’t write bills genious. So find some other band wagon to jump own, that one pulled out and left you last week.

    Signed…..The Black Magority
