POTTSBORO, Texas – North Texas authorities seized 22 dogs found crammed inside a station wagon with their owner. The owner locked the car doors and refused to come out when a constable tried to serve her a warrant for the seizure of the dogs early Monday, said SPCA spokeswoman Maura Davies. Two puppies and 20 dogs were taken to a shelter until a judge decides who gets custody, the SPCA said. A hearing on the custody of the animals is set for Feb. 16 in Denison.

The dogs were in the car along with a pot of water, blankets and waste.

“The car was soaked with urine and covered in feces. The ammonia level in the vehicle was 23 parts per million even after the doors had been opened for several minutes. As a frame of reference, humans start experiencing health issues at 12 parts per million,” Courtney Stevens, SPCA of Texas rescue and investigations supervisor, said in a news release. The owner does not face charges, Grayson County constable Michael Putman said. She was not coherent and the SPCA said it has contacted Adult Protective Services about the woman.

Pottsboro is about 70 miles north of Dallas.

Texas… it’s like Florida with a double dose of crazy.

    #2 “A ‘constable’ in Texas??”

A constable in Texas is a county law enforcement officer who is elected at the precinct level. A sheriff is elected at the county level.

The constable serves warrants and civil notices like evictions and subpoenas. They are a cross between a police officer and a process server. They do carry a gun, and have the authority to make arrests.

They are not appointed, but are elected by the people, so anyone who wants to can become a constable if they meet the qualifications and can get elected.

The dogs are sent to a shelter where they get health care, food, bath, protection.

The crazy woman is wasn’t put in jail, the car is still being aired out, so she’s where?==out on the streets?

She’d be better off at the ASPCA with her dogs or in her own pen.

Those dogs look pretty happy and healthy in the picture… one even has ID tags! I wonder if she put the make and model of her car on as the address for that tag?

They called Adult Protective Services on her. Apparently they took her to the loony bin.

Thank you! Something new learned for the day!!

  12. SPAY THE SPCA says:

The SPCA never asks the dogs what they want, they just take them because THEY feel it’s “abuse”. Yea right, a kennel is better, they put them in cages and cold floors, destroy all reproductive functions, while billing the taxpayer. It’s Nazi Germany here in America for animals. They pay no mind about how they rip the heart out of the human being who just had her “babies” confiscated. Maybe she lost her house in foreclosure. Maybe she had a fight with her roommate or boyfriend. We don’t know the whole story. They look perfectly healthy in the car, and have collars and tags so it appears more like what happened in Texas with that Mormon group that had multiple wives where the police came in and took the kids. Too bad dogs cannot testify in court.
