FBI agents Monday raided a rural Georgia peanut butter plant suspected as the source of a nationwide salmonella outbreak, a CNN affiliate reported.
The Peanut Corporation of America plant in Blakely, Georgia, was sealed off by federal authorities Monday morning, WALB reported.
The company is accused of knowingly shipping tainted products now linked to nearly 600 illnesses, including eight deaths, in 43 states. The recent outbreak has led to one of the largest food recalls in U.S. history, encompassing more than 1,000 products.

Ya gotta wonder “What in the hell were they thinking?”
Do you hear that? That’s the sound of thousands upon thousands of lawyers salivating.
profits > people, clearly.
The CEO should be locked up.
Maybe the Chinese have this part right: suicides and executions.
Republicans say they’re keeping us safe from terrorism, heck they can’t even keep us safe from peanut butter.
So maybe Obama can keep us safe from peanut butter after he fixes the middle east and solves our economic problems if he doesn’t get distracted by hijacking the census.
Not sure when he’s going to feed all the hungry, make sure everybody gets free medical care and a home of their own, and fix social security but I suppose some of it will have to wait till next year.
#6–dudswill==Why do you hate America?
Did they send in SWAT? Its not a real raid until the guys in armor witch machine guns arrive.
As I sit here eating a peanut butter and banana on a Panini Bun.
The CEO of PCA should be charged with Manslaughter, 8 counts. He or she allowed a potentially deadly toxin thrive in their product. Simply to insure their profits. They traded lives for money. Now let them trade years in prison for being greedy and callous. These deaths weren’t accidental! I’ll bet the CEO/Owner never ate any of that sh*t their factory churned out. Or their family and close friends. They probably gave their own the word, what to avoid. Just like how Tobacco executives DON’T SMOKE THEIR SH*T, EITHER.
Check out peanutcorp.com sites on wayback machine. Lots of remarks about food safety.
I smell a bailout coming…….
I’m with #’s 3 & 10. Criminal charges for the executives. A corporation protects from personal bankruptcy. It is not intended to protect officers of a corporation from their personal criminal actions.
I said the same about the Union Carbide executives regarding the Bhopal, India disaster. India was ready to prosecute and the U.S., for some stupid reason, pulled the CEO out. Last I heard, he was still alive and had never been charged with a crime.
That disaster caused around 16,000 deaths.

We should remember that a corporation is a tool created by people for a particular purpose, much like a hammer. It has no rights. It is not a life form. It’s employees and board of directors should be held responsible for their actions, especially when criminal.
They should’ve sent in the ATF and the national gaurd. I mean I’ll bet those white collar types can be pretty aggressive. I’m not saying they don’t deserve a good scare, I’d just rather the judicial system do that. FBI should have better things to do than round up these pencil neck geeks.
Just quit buying peanut butter. The producers will demand strict government rules and regulation to get their business back. The spinach producers learned this and they have not had any problems since.Bush has proven that you cannot hate government and run it at the same time.We need someone to go postal and vist our bankers and PCA execs.
Misanthropic Scott (#13),
I am a business owner and I could not possibly agree with you more. One of the great mistakes/tragedies in the history of our country, the U.S.A., is giving corporations rights as individuals.
I hope the government does what China recently did and kill whomever was/is responsible. I wouldn’t even lose sleep over it.
Everybody at this plant who knew something should be charged with manslaughter.
Newshour just reported the Owner of the Peanut Company sent emails telling employees to ship the contaminated peanut butter “knowing” it was contaminated.
I guess when he knew and what he knew will form the nexus of the lawsuit.
I hope liability is established “when a person first suspects?” but I’m sure some LIEBERTARIANS free market types will say that is too early–someone has to die first before the issue even gets a look?
WOW… CNN has Crime page now all they need is a “Science” page and we can welcome them to the new Millennium.
