No party left for the white supremacists anymore. (I’m not saying Republicans are racists. I’m saying that racists tend to vote Republican.)

  1. Mac Guy says:

There never was, Marc. And never again.

  2. Paddy-O says:

Marc Perkel said, “No party left for the white supremacists anymore.”

Nope, the last party to have a clan member in congress were the Dems…

  3. Thinker says:

w00t! Voted for his ticket when he got elected Lt. Governor of MD! And again when he ran for Congress. 🙂

  4. GregA says:

    #2,

David Duke… Your streak of being wrong about every last thing you say continues… I am starting to think you are a parody poster.

  5. Paddy-O says:

#4 When did Duke get sent to D.C.? Can’t believe I missed the media storm.

  6. GF says:

C’mon your so full of it. Sen. Robert Byrd, a Democrat, was the Klansman.

  7. Paddy-O says:

Oops. Checked it out. Byrd is still in D.C. Duke never was.

What are you babbling about GregA?

  8. Paddy-O says:

I see a disturbing trend here.

1: Dems opposed abolition of slavery.
2: Dems still have a clan member in Senate.
    3: Blacks vote Dem.
4: Dems oppose vouchers for inner city blacks so they stay uneducated…

    Hmmm…

  9. moss says:

Yup, Byrd was the last “admitted’ ex-Klan member in Congress. Not that it has anything to do with the Republikan Southern Strategy.

Trouble is – the Konfederate Klucks seem to be on a losing roll.

  10. Benjamin says:

#4 “David Duke… Your streak of being wrong about every last thing you say continues… I am starting to think you are a parody poster.”

David Duke ran as many times as a Democrat as he did as a Republic. The only thing he ever won was a State House seat. Any idiot can get elected to a State House seat. (He proved that any idiot can get elected to a State House Seat)

Robert Byrd not only won the Democrat primary, but also won the general election to the US House of Representatives. The Democrats wanted him.

    There is no comparison.

Michael Steele is a good man. He was the guy I would have picked to head the RNC or even head the country. I have heard good things about him. I wish him the best. I hope Michael Steele becomes President someday.

  11. Marc Perkel says:

What I want to know is – will Nascar fans play the “race” card?

  12. Saz what? says:

Ummm… I’m not a republican, but calling them white supremacists is insulting and baiting.

    # 7 & 8
So inner city people only deserve a good education if they leave their local schools??? And how are inner city youth suppose to get to these schools? Vouchers have always been for the wealthier population to retrieve taxes paid to inner city school districts. Just more republican “redistribution” of wealth. Take from the “poor” schools and give to the private ones.

Or take from the middle class and give to the Iraqis or the rich or the wealthiest banks in the world. Whatever… Just more cynicism from a bankrupt party, morally, culturally, and ethically.

  13. Benjamin says:

#10 Robert Byrd not only won the Democrat primary, but also won the general election to the US House of Representatives. The Democrats wanted him.

Correction: the US Senate. Even worse. Although he used to be a US Congressman before becoming a Senator.

  14. QB says:

The Republicans are not overwhelmingly white. They’ve had 4 black congressional members already:

Senator Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts Representative Gary Franks of Connecticut
Delegate Melvin H. Evans of the U.S. Virgin Islands
Representative J. C. Watts of Oklahoma

And check out the diversity from the convention floor!

  15. moss says:

Must have been like pulling teeth, though. Took seven ballots. Har!

  16. Phydeau says:

Michael Steele proves that the Republican party doesn’t appeal to racism any more, just like J.C.Watts proved it, and Clarence Thomas, proved it, and all the other tokens proved it.

    In other words, not.

The problem with the Southern Strategy (appealing to bigoted racists with coded and not-so-coded racism) is that you eventually drive everyone else away in disgust and the only voters your party is left with are the bigoted racists. And thankfully, there aren’t enough of them left in the country to win many elections.

  18. James Hill says:

Another epic fail for the weakest editor of them all.

  19. gerome says:

I’m just waiting for some conservative talk show host to say Michael Steele only won because he is black.

  20. And Now for Something Completely Different says:

Oh stop the silliness over which party is more ‘racist’. Neither in reality. The Republicans aren’t racist so much as they just went after a southern state electoral strategy in the last couple decades, which REQUIRES winning the votes of the rural white voters…who happen to include, but not ONLY, the KKK. I know the parties flip flopped around on this ‘southern’ ownership over the last century, but the CURRENT and existing ownership of the KKK is the Republican party. You think the KKK are voting for the party of Obama and gay rights? Not…er…likely. Granted in 25 years this could all flip flop again. Change is the only constant in the universe (well, that and the Planck constant)

  21. Breetai says:

#19 Even money says Rush is 1st. He needs the ratings.

  22. Angel H. Wong says:

    #21

I believe that the best thing that ever happened to conservative radio/tv talkshow hosts is for the Democrats to win the presidential election, now they don’t have to behave like Glam rock groupies and support every act of stupidity performed by Bush Jr. and his posse.

  23. Paddy-O says:

    #22 Truth.

  24. LinusVP says:

Good for the Republicrats. Steele is a good man.

  25. jescott418 says:

Yes, I watch the Republican convention and could hardly find anyone other then rich white people there. They really have a racist image that has to change. Otherwise they will become a minority.

  26. Flip Wilson says:

OMG — last guy standing is black, after all the other candidates dug themselves graves. Racist CDs, racist country clubs, and just plain racists. Wow. Ya think this guy’s gonna be a leader among _white_ _men_ who demonize people who are not _white_ _men_ ??

  27. Angles Right says:

My god people look at him! He’s not black! He’s middle eastern….or something! I wonder if he’s articulate as well as handsome? I’ll bet he’s sum kind of frickin’ Islamum or Buddhist!

  28. billabong says:

LBJ drove southern whites into the republican party when he signed the voting rights act. They weren’t racist but they were against black folks voting in their states.I guess that makes them votist.

  29. BillM says:

Would you be racist if you voted for someone because of their race? What the the percentage of blacks that voted for Obahma? Does that work statistically? Black, Dem = Racist

  30. QB says:

BillM, going off CNN data the percentage of black vote for Dems:

    Gore 90%
    Kerry 88%
    Obama 93%

Do you see a trend? Take your time. Here’s a hint, Gore may be the whitest person on the planet.
