Representative Pete King of New York has introduced a bill to Congress that would require all new cameraphones to have shutter sounds. Why? For the children!
The bill states that “Congress finds that children and adolescents have been exploited by photographs taken in dressing rooms and public places with the use of a camera phone,” a fact which I doubt many would challenge. What many will challenge are the notions that the main purpose of silent camera modes is to perv on Kindergartners and that banning these modes would stop anyone from doing so.
There is a practically unlimited supply of existing, silent-mode-enabled cameras that are available to anyone who wants them, not to mention the fact that many cameraphones have video modes, which present a problem that couldn’t really be solved short of requiring handsets to scream “HEY NAKED KIDS, I’M TAKING A VIDEO RIGHT NOW SO YOU SHOULD PROBABLY GO GET YOUR PARENTS” on loop for the duration of the recording.
Yeah, this will work. Nobody who wants to take these kind of photos with a cell phone would EVER think of switching to a small, regular camera.

Concrete toilet. Reminds me of my old days overseas in the military.
And people think it is rough over here in the US.
Congress, the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s little problems…wait, that’s alcohol. Cheers!
Great thing, all these mobiles, cameras are killing privacy.
Soon, we won´t be able to do anything without being spied. I believe that is a big issue, and that should also be connected with online publications on social networks where many people find themselves on pictures on which they don´t want.
Good thing from the congress!!!
Cousin Eddie: SHITTER’S FULL!
Another life long career pol who has spent his life leeching tax $.
Hang them all.
Yeah let’s waste some money legislating this important issue because people who spend time figuring out ways to do this aren’t smart enough to just break the speaker on their phones.
This is already the law in Japan. Apparently it is a huge problem there.
Are old cameras phones to be grandfathered in? I don’t want to give up my phone. I never use the camera anyway.
The real reason they want this is so cops can feel safe when shooting handcuffed people who are on the ground. Those camera phones on YouTube embarrassed the BART cops.
I have a better idea all cameras should make a fart sound when used.Kings an idiot and should have been castrated before he had a chance to breed.
Yup. Another Republican terrorist supporter.
I suggest they install those beep sounds like when a truck backs up.

That’s because Japanese are natural born pedos, just check their market for used schoolgirl uniforms 😉
Weird, I thought this country was on the brink of a depression. Please tell me, they are working on that instead of wasting time on bullshit like this.
Yet another congressman with weird sexual fantasies.
any serious study shows that the generic idea of a perv is so overblown (no pun intended)
So,
someone is running around taking Perv picks with THEIR cellphones??
Someone is running around schools taking Potty pics??
I WONDER WHO??
I dont think the teachers are doing it, they would be FIRED and ARRESTED..
Hmmm,
I wonder if its the OTHER STUDENTS..
In the meantime the government wants to spy on us more and more. Why doesn’t this same congressman require all government agency to issue a clicking sound when ever they tap our calls, intercept our emails, or photograph is driving our walking?
Instead of having this technical requirement for phones to have a clicking sound when the picture is taken, how about they just make it illegal to take pictures in restrooms and dressing rooms without the person being photographed permission? Oh wait. Is that already illegal? Then enforce that law.
The state of Iowa has a law (which they do not enforce) that makes it illegal to possess a camera phone or digital camera while in a public restroom or dressing room. It doesn’t stop people from talking on the phone in the restroom, texting in then locker room, or even carrying it turned off in their pocket. (It would if they enforced it.) I was told it would only be enforced against perverts, but it would have been just as easy to pass a law banning just the use of the camera feature in a restroom.
It’s just another overly broad law that bans or regulates an item rather then an activity.
This does not go nearly far enough. I propose a rule that whenever someone sees a naked person, they must loudly exclaim… I dunno… “Cuckoo!”
And while we’re at it, let’s not permit males in the female shower rooms as highly inappropriate. I mean gay males in the male shower rooms. Stand-by while I sort this out.

Okay, back. I think just for everyday practical purposes, we should assume there are are no gays. Everyone okay with that?

I just turned the shutter sound off on my cellphone. An unfortunate situation occurs whilst my cell is holstered.
The holster occasionally activates the camera and begins taking pictures of the inside of the holster. I had not considered that having the camera merrily clicking away could be misconstrued. Better safe than sorry.
Recently the camera started clicking while the car radio was playing Simon and Garfunkle’s “Kodachrome.” Seemed a nice touch.
I listened to the Podcast..
and if its for fighting those UP SKIRT pictures..
Then just make the camera NOT FOCUS at 1 foot..
Make the min range 6 foot..
Or install a DECENT camera..
Hey! This morning, I could see her face!….
The guy is trying to make brownie points with the ignorant or is ignorant.
# 20 RBG said, “we should assume there are are no gays.”
I’ve been fairly depressed recently.
Well, a comic company, but I think the man has a penchant for extreme perversion.
Priceless! 🙂
