FOX Sports on MSN – Women’s NCAA – Texas girls hoops team seeks forfeit of 100-0 win — While I suppose the one bad team should not have even been playing the good team. But now to forfeit a lopsided win? AND KLOSE! They could have amended the score to 2-0. Or just forgotten about it.

A high school girls basketball team that beat an opponent 100-0 has a case of blowout remorse.

The winning school now says it wants to do the right thing by seeking a forfeit and apologizing for the margin of victory.

“It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened,” the head of the school said Thursday on The Covenant School’s Web site. He added that Covenant has made “a formal request to forfeit the game recognizing that a victory without honor is a great loss.”

Covenant, a private Christian school in Dallas, defeated Dallas Academy 100-0 last week. Covenant was up 59-0 at halftime.

A parent who attended the game told The Associated Press that Covenant continued to make 3-pointers — even in the fourth quarter. She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

Covenant, a private Christian school in Dallas /// God loves basketball but it is Satan that encourages people to win. Better late than never to get in touch with the schools higher calling.

Doubt they will see the larger lesson.

  2. green says:

The coach should be canned. What an asshole.

  3. J says:

What is this lets pick on the retarded kids day?

Those losing girls were “special needs” children. Far more the just dyslexia.

That other coach is a complete asshole.

  4. Snick says:

If the other team were not retarded, it’d be a disgrace to not continue the win(self esteem movement gives me the creeps), but I agree with the school on this one, should never have happened. Shame on the coaches.

  5. Jimbo (the other one, I guess) says:

So are they advocating the team play at less than their best?

  6. Special Ed says:

    Those wacky Christians, should’ve known.

  7. billabong says:

We ought to throw the winning teams coach to the lions.

  8. cubsfanatic86 says:

A full court press when it’s 98-0, yeah that’s good sportsmanship. What a great role model, coach should be fired.

  9. guiltywhiteliberal says:

Now even the christians are acting like liberals….

  10. Named says:

FWIW, the coach of the losing team was very proud of his team. He didn’t want them to be pitied and he praised them immensely for never giving up.

  11. DBR says:

“So are they advocating the team play at less than their best?”

Sort of. You put your third-stringers out, you put your good
    players in unfamiliar positions,
you call some plays still in an experimental stage. etc. It’s
    called “sportsmanship”.

  12. LinusVP says:

I coach CYO basketball and when we start opening up a huge lead, we go to the 3 pass rule and sit the top five. Too bad this coach didn’t do the same. I think the late forfeit may not make the other team any better. Too little too late. Shame on coach and cheering parents.

  13. LinusVP says:

Oh, and way to bash Christians, #1.

  14. chuck says:

God was on their side. How could they lose?

  15. GF says:

Covenant should have known better and played with only one player from the third string with their hand tied behind their back. Of course they would have still beat them 25 to nothing and probably still would have been ‘apologizing for the margin of victory…’

  16. Greg Allen says:

… and I was beginning to think that Texans were all heartless belligerents.

    Good on them.

  17. jescott418 says:

Maybe their should be a blowout rule.

  18. Mr. Fusion says:

    #13, Linus,

Oh, and way to bash Christians, #1.

Why not bash the Christians? They were the ones playing under the “Christian” banner.

Also, the defeated school has a total of 20 girls in the school and eight on the team. The school specializes on teaching learning disabled kids, not retarded kids.

  19. bobbo says:

#13–linus==I wasn’t bashing christians. THIS is bashing christians: Isn’t “retarded Christians” redundant?

  20. Lou says:

    Sounds kinda gay.

  21. Carcarius says:

Well, this was a ridiculous story. I don’t care enough to know the full details of what’s going on, but from what I see just by the score the defeated players never left the bench. They didn’t even play.

Some of the posters here mentioned retards and christians. If the defeated team was comprised of retards (or mentally challenged for the PC types out there) then it’s totally disgraceful. Who set up this game and why?

Again, a ridiculous non-story. People should immediately forget this happened.

  22. Mr. Fusion says:

    #21, Carcar,

The ridiculous thing is when some asswipe starts pontificating without having even read the article.

They were neither mentally retarded or challenged. They had learning disabilities. Like you.

A ridiculous post from some effen retard. Must be Cow-Paddy’s sister.

  23. noname says:

I don’t know whose feeling are hurt more, Dvorak or the winning team.

If they want to do, what they think is right, then; why the f#$k should I care?

Talking about Nanny State shit, you don’t need to point to at it out there, it’s in Dvorak blogs big time.

Again, why the f#$k should I care?

Like Jefferson said, if it doesn’t pick my pockets or break my leg. It doesn’t matter. As long as it doesn’t harm others.

Why is that so hard to grasp. This Nanny State shit should stop.

  24. bobbo says:

Tv news says the coach commented the schools apology was wrong and that his girls played admirably. The school fired him without any explanation being given.

This followed the news of the High School Football Coach facing “wreckless homicide” charges in the death of one of his players during practice who was denied access to water.

“Coaches”—what are you gonna do with them?

Sully on tv as well: “We simply were doing the job we were trained to do.” Most heroes say that.
