Good thing Honkey has a sense of humor!
Funny site. The book made the NY Times bestseller list.
About a year ago I wrote a comment (don’t remember the topic now) saying that something was “stuff white people like”. And many pointed out that I was raciest. I figured someday the DU blog would get up to speed.
Surely this type of stuff is only racist if it contains some sort of hate element. It all looks to be in good humor to me. Still, I’m white and I’ve yet to experience anything I’d call racially offensive.
@#4: It is racist. Just, it is PC racism. Imagine the uproar and lawsuits and marches and protests … if someone listed a number of stereotypical black people preferences and commented on them in a same way. Or Muslims. Or Homosexuals. Or any other PC-protected group. There is nothing in this article that differs from the lynch mob attitude in the old South… Just the target is different and the method more contrived.
Maybe I missed it but I didn’t see brown sugar on the list…

Show me where it advocates murder, beatings, segregation and /or inhuman treatment of white folks and I’ll agree with you. As its stands it looks to me like your projecting.

Well it is written by a white guy (and a white Canadian guy at that). If What Black People Like was written by a black person then it wouldn’t really be a big deal Have you ever seen Def Comedy Jam> Half the comedians on there are like that. Moreover, the blog isn’t talking about all white people but the hipster, liberal arts white collar white people.
Of course I took a class with Christian, the guy who runs the site, so I might have some insight to where it is coming from (I’m not his best friend or anything. I barely know the guy, but we are Facebook friends!)

C’mon Bro, all we axing is for you ta have a little sense of humor, ya see?

#62 – Knowing what.s best for poor people.
Oh, that’s so true.
I love knowing what’s best for poor people.
I also like not committing crimes and working.
According to this guy, I must not be as white as I thought, because I can’t find more than 4-5 thing’s out of 120 on the list, that I actually like.
The list is something to ponder. Why is it funny, why is it not?
I could see some blacks being upset at the “privileged nature” that much of the list reveals: “Taking a year off” is something poor white folks would like to do to, so if by white, you mean “rich white”==yea, its as funny as counting your coupons (from annual bond payments that is==not that other low brow kind).
To the reverse, I don’t know why but I was thinking of a list of favorite black things and “watermelon” came to mind. I like watermelon myself yet somehow I think our culture has given this to blacks for this type of humor.
So many of these things are not true on so many levels, but the association is there for some reason.
Fuzzy Zoeller gets in trouble for saying’ tell him not to serve fried chicken, or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve’, but this list isn’t racist. Gotcha.
White people?
Like dodos right?

Don’t make me burn down a white owned business or cut your balls off for disrespecting white folks.
How could the porch monkey be left from the list? Every one knows a smiling porch monkey strumming a banjo is a big hit.
Off Topic warning
JCD let us know how the fund raiser is doing. I like being a member of an exclusive club, and can’t wait for the perks to start.
Is Halo 3 on the list? I think I have only ran into to 2 or 3 African Americans playing online, who had a mic anyways.
It’s racial but acceptable since it was being presented by a white person. Same on the flip side with black comedians being able to point out preferences of black people. Interesting though, that non-white or non-black (ie, Hispanic, Asian, Indian…) comedians can cross over at will.
White guilt and black anger with all other races enjoying the perspective as observers.
No point, just pondering.

That explains why a lot of the items are so strange.
Not for nothing but who wouldn’t like to have a year off?

#1 – Dvorak.org
It would seem to me someone could create an engine to track web searches, weighted by ZIP code race breakdown, to track what white people like in real time.
If JCD really wants a revenue stream…
Of course, that would probably lead to “Asian Girls” beating out “Obama”, but I digress.
#25 Who
See the difference between this (rather lame) list and yours is that yours contains an element of malice, not to mention the ‘colored folks’ quip. Racists never seem to get the difference between racism (hate) and humor (love). Perhaps its its because to a racist humor is hate.
#29 – An element? I guess I just hate that element, not all – just that lower echelon.
