WASHINGTON Many people like to stop and play with newborn babies, but now some adult women are playing house with fake babies. Some women are even going as far as taking day trips with the fake babies to the park, out to eat, and even hosting birthday parties for them. Forty-nine-year-old Linda is married with no children of her own. Now, she says she feels like a mother because she has Reborns — dolls made to look and feel like the real thing. “It’s not a crazy habit, like, you know, drinking, or some sort of, something that’s going to hurt you. It’s like a hobby.and it doesn’t really hurt anybody,” Linda said.

These women are paying big bucks for this hobby, from $100 to a few thousand dollars. For Reborn owner Lachelle Moore, the fake babies fill a void. “What’s so wonderful about Reborns is that, um, they’re forever babies,” said Moore, who has grown children and grandchildren. “There’s no college tuition, no dirty diapers… just the good part of motherhood,” she added. In her Kansas City home, Moore even has an elaborate room for the dolls. She organizes birthday parties, bakes a cake and even invites guests.

Psychologists say there could be a problem if and when these women stop interacting socially with others in their life.

Forever babies? I saw a group of these grown women on the Today show with their “children”… creepy.

    Creepy huh?

What do you think “women” are? They are egg laying baby raisers.

What are men? Sperm spreading silverbacks.

We aren’t well matched in this mating dance at all. Some impulses to nurturing does balance the basic impulses. Always nice when those impulses matchup and aren’t destroyed by the more basic drives.

  2. Pete says:

With grown men collecting comic books and playing video games, I suppose it makes sense for some women to still want to play with dolls. At some point along the way in the past 30 years or so, adulthood became optional.

  3. These women were also on that 20/20 show the other night about the titty-sucking 8-year-olds. The whole show was a little twisted.

And I wasn’t all that impressed with the babies. They looked better than some “Allah is the Light” thing you’d get for $20 at Wal*Mart, but at $500 – $2500 a pop, I’d want more.

  4. DDub says:

These women need counseling, end of story.

  5. fulanoche says:

“just the good part of motherhood”

for crying out loud, they’re women playing with dolls!

  6. sargasso says:

Babies are a lot like collecting old French cars. They drink constantly, produce toxic fumes, solid waste products are non-recyclable, there are no spare parts and only a few highly paid experts know how to repair them. Having a fake baby, from a purely practical perspective, makes sense.

    Bingo!

#7–fulanoche===all righty then, you are OFF THE LIST to get one of the “Cherry 2000” models just coming off the line. Early reviewers have remarked that “she really sucks.” We will spare you the details as she is only a f&cking doll.

  9. Bobbo – Don’t defy the [Eds.]. Lose the “www” part of the URL. It cocks up the link.

[I love it when readers pay attention. – ed.]

  10. bobbo says:

Thanks Musty, will do. Habits change hard. “Hard to believe” somthing as basic as links would be fouled up by a service==or that another service would go ahead and use it?

Along those lines, its hard to believe that upgraded Os’s would make file copying more slow.

How do these software enhancements actually get approved?

  11. Mojo Yugen says:

‘Reborns’? Wouldn’t ‘Stillborns’ be more accurate?

Maybe this is why I don’t work in marketing.

  12. BigBoyBC says:

This goes beyond “playing with dolls”, They say they “know it’s only a doll”, but these women become emotionally attached to them for real.

I’ve seen this first hand with a female family member, believe me when I say this, these women need help.

Now, as for that Cherry 2000… Where do I sign up? (Yea, I need help too…)

  13. fulanoche says:

    Mr. Bob bo
Ok, so no Cherry 2000 for me. But could I sign up for sloppy seconds with the pin-up of the day?

When women buy these stillborn dolls does the receipt offer discounts on a dildo?

  14. Opus says:

This is just disturbing at so many levels.

  15. BubbaRay says:

But could I sign up for sloppy seconds with the pin-up of the day?

Here ya’ go. A new one every day (almost) at Cage Match.

    The index is here.

  16. Jeff says:

Well, if you are going by grown men collecting comics (or watching comic movies) and playing video games than the majority of the female population will be playing with dolls within a decade (or so). The only problem is that many so-called feminine hobbies are at their root childish… scrap booking, stuffed animal collecting and don’t forget Barbie. The same can be said of comic books, video games and card collecting as well.

The trouble, however, is that just because you collect a comic book, play video games or happen be a stuff animal nut (ex girlfriend) doesn’t mean that you are not a stable adult, who is married and has a family with a stable job as a doctor, lawyer or whatever.

This goes off the deep-end because you role playing adult life. Not living it with an outlet of escapism (cars, boats, collections).

  17. This is actually a great idea!! I think many of you are missing the point. Look at how much more sense this makes than actually raising more children in this world in its currently terrible and degrading state.

If you’re thinking about children, think about them and their wishes first. Consider giving your kids the gift of non-existence. Then they won’t have to solve all of the problems we’ve created, or if unsuccessful, be part of The Great Human Die-Off.

In addition to the fact that I have no desire to raise kids, I feel good that I have not caused any to deal with the crises to come.

If you want a baby for your own entertainment, consider getting one of these. It’s a great option.

  18. qsabe says:

I hope it catches on among young women. Especially the breast feeding in public part..

  19. fulanoche says:

    #18 & #19

You’ve made me reconsider that maybe it’s not such a bad idea. As long as they realize they are just dolls.

  20. #20 – fulanoche,

I doubt the dolls know they’re just dolls. I see no reason to tell them before they reach adulthood.

  21. bobbo says:

HEY!! Cherry 2000 is on tv in about 2 hours 8pm Eastern on the Independent Film Channel. First 5 minutes will convince anyone that mechanical dolls are a good idea.
