Well… 3 cents on a Canadian dollar… nothing to scoff about.
1,5% rebate? Ludicrous!
I always wait for the 4 cent rollback==33% better deal. Only suckers take the first offer.
[Comment deleted – Violation of Posting Guidelines. – ed.]
The important point is that they didn’t rollback to $19.95(C). You can joke about it, but this is truly why Walmart succeeds. They understand that every penny counts.
#3–happyashit==why revenue neutral? Taxes just aren’t regressive enough for you?
In fact, Obama rejected a variation of this type of gas tax in order to help the average guy. Fair motivation==bad energy plan.
Every Penny Counts!

The last number of the price is a code at Walmart. 19.96 means the product is in a different category than a 19.95 product. (I don’t know what they mean, but it wouldn’t be hard to figure out. It’s something like 4=closeout, 5=instore special, 6=advertised special, 7=suckers only, etc etc etc etc.)
I’m not sure that stupid trash that shops at Wal-mart know the difference. Can they read and write?
Numbar ate.
Wut?
#9–Stupid Trash, I was thinkin the same eggzact thing. Love the Blue Light Specials and those Rollback Prices. But whats the difference?
Makes no sense at all to me. At least “Larry” is not sure. Maybe Moe hasn’t clued him in.
That is very common in retail. You’ll be surprised the increased sales because of the 3 cent drop in price.
@Bobbo
Blue Light Specials were at K-Mart not Wal-Mart.

WOW, WalMart prices are dropping almost as fast as Bushes popularity.
What? They have Wal-Marts in Canada?
#7 re ‘the last number of the price is a code’
I can refute the secret last-digit-of-the-price code theory with some certainty. Walmart is way more sophisticated than that. They know every available detail of every sale of every tube of toothpaste in the entire chain. They can determine what the effect of cloudy weather in Kansas City is on the sales of vinyl-covered paper clips. I’ve seen it in action and it almost frightening.
They pioneered supply chain and sales analysis 20 years ago. It’s why they succeed when other retailers suffer.
As it should be.
I get such a kick out of these “rollbacks”.. I still remember shopping for a Sony Playstation. Wal-Mart was selling it for $179 at the time. I went back 3 months later and WOW there was a price rollback that said old price was $219, rolled back to $179.
Since the prices on these things are always dropping as technology improves, I’m sure they sold it at $219 at some point in the past, so “technically” not a lie. I’m sure the same practices hold true for Wal-Mart today.
When I was a small fry I asked my Dad is selling something at 0.99 instead of a dollar was effective, and he assured me that a big company such as coke was moving a million cases — they would not leave the $10,000.00 on the table if it didnt increase sales profits by more than that.
Now at WalMart things get a little more complicated. Sam Waltons gurus goal is to extract the best return per square foot of floor space per day. Thus if the product is not moving, or perhaps is seasonal and soon will have a downturn in sales the philosophy is to get it out so the space can be put to better use.
So maybe it gets moved into the asile on its own pallet with a new reduced price to draw attention to the item.
Perhaps the real question is why 3 cents when they could have done the same by lowering it just a penny!
Ah but some price endings sell better than others– and walmart knows which ones do better than I.
Ah, Wal-Mart, opportunistic Wal-Mart. Always cashing in on the ignorance of the consumers. Most consumers are illiterate. They do not read and they are unable to perform simple arithmetic.
Squeezing manufacturers/suppliers for goods. The result is loss of employment for American workers. Wal-Mart always pays the lowest wages, always pays the lowest prices for goods for sale. Wal-Mart always the lowest.
