KopBusters rented a house in Odessa, Texas and began growing two small Christmas trees under a grow light similar to those used for growing marijuana. When faced with a suspected marijuana grow, the police usually use illegal FLIR cameras and/or lie on the search warrant affidavit claiming they have probable cause to raid the house. Instead of conducting a proper investigation which usually leads to no probable cause, the Kops lie on the affidavit claiming a confidential informant saw the plants and/or the police could smell marijuana coming from the suspected house.

The trap was set and less than 24 hours later, the Odessa narcotics unit raided the house only to find KopBuster’s attorney waiting under a system of complex gadgetry and spy cameras that streamed online to the KopBuster’s secret mobile office nearby.

Reminds me of the tomato plants raided here by the CAMP helicopters. But in that case tomato plants look just like Marj. from 1000′ up…

I wouldn’t want to be Barry Cooper of the cop busters now..

  2. They want to see if any laws were broken..yeah, by Cop Busters. The police will walk from this and keep doing it. The judge who gave them the warrant is the one they should highlight as the bonehead.

    >>broken..yeah, by Cop Busters.

What laws would those be? The ones that make crooked cops look like assholes? I guess they’re guilty as charged, then. They sure did make the cops look like assholes.

I’m sure they will lie their way out of it.

In the meantime, that’s a hilarious story. “Freeze! Hands up stoners!! Officer, take those… uhhh.. urk… Christmas trees and bag ’em and tag ’em.

Woops. Instead of “What laws would those be? The ones that make crooked cops look like assholes?

    I should have said

“What laws would those be? The ones against making crooked cops look like assholes?”

In any case, the kops in this kaper look like retarded storm troopers.

  5. QB says:

Or maybe I could just read a good book.

Maybe one of the Dvorak editors could do a “pick your favourite book for Christmas” post?

Last time we had a huge economic crisis, we took something illegal (alcohol), made it legal (repealed prohibition), and taxed the crap out of it.

Gee, I wonder if there is some illegal substance that doesn’t cause much harm that we could legalize and tax to raise more money…

What a pity that neither party has the honesty nor courage to restore the rule of law over the government and enforce the Bill of Rights and the rest of the Constitution’s inconvenient restrictions on government.

And we seem to keep voting for them.

The War on Drugs is a failure…at keeping people off of drugs. Did you ever stop to think that this is just the way the GOVERNMENT want it?

The FEDS generate a mountain of money by bringing the drugs into the country and selling them on the street.

One of the most shocking stories I have read. Imagine just how bad the corruption here is that is being revealed.

    Illegal surveillance.
    False affidavits.

All the checks and balances keeping the government/police have been subverted. Yes, another situation where GUNS won’t help us==and thats too bad.

A Federal Task force should review this situation and clean house as Odessa is a cess pool.

THEN, more sting houses should be set up. House else can anyone really “fight” for liberty?????

  13. Stars & Bars says:

bobbo – just how do you know Odessa is a “cess pool”? Have you been there? Do you live there?

Oh!!!, wait just a minute, in his novel “Texasville” Larry McMurtry wrote Odessa was the, “…worst place on Earth”

This isn’t the first time Odessa has been mention on dvorak.org http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=4393

Why not? The doofus shot up his frigging WALL. Prolly that .44 was too much gun for a candy-ass grown-up who would go discharging a firearm on school grounds.

  15. Mr. Fusion says:

The cops should have given the attorney a copy of the search warrant which would have spelled out the reason for the search. Why hasn’t this been publicized instead of guesses of why?

I give credit to those who participated. This is something we all know happens and few really ever cared about.

  18. Alex Wollangk says:

Actually, while they DO look like boneheads they have more than just the presence of grow lights to justify a raid on the house. The very activities that they used to “keep it secret” combined with the efforts to set up the sting very well could have made it seem like they were doing something illegal. If I was an obnoxious neighbor or even someone fed up with the drug houses in the neighborhood (whether there actually were any or not) and the people next door were going in and out at all hours of the day and night I might very well call in an “anonymous tip”…

Of course, if I were the cops I’d probably do something I didn’t need a warrant for like send an under-cover around to knock on the door and “welcome them to the neighborhood” and case the joint out first. If I had suspicions, I’d then try to set up a sting to get actual product from the house rather than just sending in the troops. Doing actual police work doesn’t tend to satisfy nosy neighbors and tends to cost more, though.

  19. Mr. Fusion says:

    #19, Alex,

Coulda, maybe, possible, and all those other wishy washy scenarios don’t hold water. This house was set up and less than 24 hours later they were searched.

Even a neighborhood informant needs something other than suspicioan. They needed some sworn evidence to get the warrant or else it was a bogus warrant.

  20. morram says:

I was busted for growing. Weirdly at work in front of several customers a couple police I knew handcuffed me while announcing “we’re arresting you for growing pot” and lead me out to a car. Once in back I asked what was going on and was told they had seen pot growing in my back yard. I had a large 160×120 back yard, half lawn and half garden which was dead at the time but they had stood on top of their car to look over my fence and see the pot. How did they find it, a neighbor that hated me had turned me in. I talked them into taking me by the house so I could let them in the yard. The “pot” was a couple of milk weeds.
Now get this, a few weeks later I’m out walking my dog and coming out of the trees next to the cemetery I was walking between to police cars that were sitting side by side in the back of the parking lot. The cops were sharing a joint. I walked right between them and said “hey” and kept walking. Later I was able to buy some really good weed awful cheap from one of them.
