I couldn’t find a picture of Chief Greg Schwarber, but here’s a video of him being sworn in as chief.

Associated Press – November 28, 2008:

Police in southwestern Ohio say a police chief mistakenly shot himself in the thigh after giving his daughter a gun safety lesson.

A police report says 54-year-old Middletown police Chief Greg Schwarber was preparing to clean his Glock .45-caliber pistol on Friday and didn’t realize the gun was still loaded.

The report written by officers from neighboring Monroe says the bullet entered Schwarber’s leg just above the knee.

When officers arrived, they found the chief lying on the floor with a towel covering his leg. Schwarber was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Of course there’s the infamous video of the DEA agent shooting himself in the foot.

  2. Jeff P. says:

No, not only in America dipstick. Carelessness happens worldwide as does stupidity. In a country with over 300,000,000 people in it you will have accidents and it has nothing to do with nationality so put a cork in it.

Guns don’t have accidents, people do.

#1–Zorkor–where’s that annual report of Muslim worshipers accidentally shooting themselves when bending over to pray to Mecca?

HAW!!! I thought foreigners knew more than most that people all over the world are mostly the same. Only politicians and bigots try to capitalize on any claimed differences.

So, my question is: “Is Zorkor’s repeatedly demonstrated stupid more political or bigotry in its source?” It can’t be religion, because Muslims are for peace.

There are other reports of Glock 9mm’s self discharging. It seems to be a problem unique to senior policemen, unfamiliar with the new gun’s safeties.

In other news, parents across the country are causing car accidents after giving their kids driving lessons. Big whoop.

Mostly because other nations are smarter than to allow handguns all over the place.

#8 Thanks Mr. Fusion. I concur.

And yet another person who lacks the capacity to understand irony.

  11. Hugh Ripper says:

Yet another demonstration of gun safety that clearly demonstrates guns are not safe.

I’m happy to have never owned a gun. I’m happy my neighbors don’t own guns. I’m happy to be able to walk down the street knowing that nutjobs and stupid kids don’t have access to guns.
I get the whole ‘right to bear arms’ gig, but I’m yet to be convinced that strict gun regulation is a bad thing.

That video of the DEA agent shooting himself is one scary video. It makes you angry that anyone so stupid would be hired by the government. Butcha gotsta meet quotas.

    #6,
in this case it was a .45, not a 9mm. In any case, it did not self disharge (not that you will be able to find many cases where a gun self disharged). He was preparing to clean the gun. In order to dissasemble a glock, you need to pull the trigger. It’s the only way the gun will come apart.

So 1st, verify that the gun is unloaded. 2nd, point the gun in a safe direction. 3rd, pull the trigger.

Obviously, he skipped the first two steps. He didn’t verify that the gun was unloaded. He didn’t point it in a safe direction.

He pulled the trigger, and the gun went off. No way can this be “self discharge”.

Now, the person who put their loaded gun in their oven, then turned on the oven, that MIGHT be considered self discharge.

The bad guys are happy that you won’t hurt them. How do you protect yourself? Wait for the police to come and investigate after you and your family have been robbed, beaten, raped or killed?

    #11 – Mr. Ripper

    >> I’m happy to be able to walk down the street
    >>knowing that nutjobs and stupid kids don’t
    >>have access to guns.

Where the heck do you live??

In most places with strict gun control laws, it’s ONLY the nutjobs and stupid kids (with a smattering of hardcore criminals thrown in for good measure) who DO have access to guns. The law-abiding citizen…fageddaboudit. You can’t protect yourself or your neighbors, and they can’t protect themselves or you. You’re all at the mercy of the nutjobs, the stupid kids, and the hardcore criminals.

  16. “I’m the only one in this room professional enough to carry this Glock 40…”

    classic.

  17. Mac Guy says:

#13 – Absolutely correct. As an owner of firearms myself, I know that I must handle EVERY firearm with the assumption that it IS loaded. Never, EVER rely on your memory to know whether or not a firearm is loaded.

When I hand a firearm to someone else, I drop the mag and rack the slide to show them that it’s not loaded. When someone hands me a firearm, I do the same (unless they do it).

This is just stupidity at its finest.
