A woman is restrained at a Toys ‘R’ Us store in Palm Desert, Calif., where two men were killed Friday in a gun fight.

Associated Press – November 28, 2008:

Authorities say two people have been killed inside a Toys “R” Us store in Southern California.

Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez says Palm Desert police got a call saying shots had been fired inside the store Friday.

He says two people are dead inside, but further details were not immediately available.

Update – Here’s a full description of the event from the Associated Press – November 29, 2008:

The shooting occurred in a crowded toy store on the traditional start of the holiday shopping season, but authorities say it wasn’t related to the bargain-hunting frenzy. Instead, two men pulled guns and killed each other after the women with them erupted into a bloody brawl, witnesses said.

Authorities released few details about the mayhem that broke out at the Toys “R” Us store around 11:30 a.m. Friday, sending scared shoppers fleeing. Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez said the fight was not over a toy and that handguns were found by the men’s bodies. He refused to say whether the shooting was gang-related.

Witnesses Scott and Joan Barrick said they were checking out of the store when the brawl began between two women, each with a man. The women were near the checkout area, but the Barricks did not think the women had purchases.

One woman suddenly started punching the other woman, who fought back as blood flowed from her nose, said Scott Barrick, 41. The man who was with the woman being punched pulled a gun halfway out of his pocket, then shoved it back in, he said.

“He pulled his gun right next to me. I turned to look for my wife, and she was already hiding,” Scott Barrick said.

The other man pulled a gun and pointed it at the first man but forgot to cock it, Scott Barrick said. The first man tried to run but was blocked by the line of people, then ran back toward the store’s electronics section as the other man fired his gun, he said.

The first man reached a dead-end in electronics, turned around and ran toward an exit, pulling his gun and firing back, Scott Barrick said.

“He went up to the cash register, he went to put his hand on the thing and he just went phoomp,” he said, indicating the man fell.

Toys “R” Us issued a statement expressing outrage over the violence.

“We are working closely with local law enforcement officials to determine the specific details of what occurred,” the statement said. “Our understanding is that this act seems to have been the result of a personal dispute between the individuals involved. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to associate the events of today with Black Friday.”

I’m not sure if it’s more disturbing if shoppers are carrying loaded guns or if gangs are meeting at Toys ‘R Us…

Absolutely! Everyone should be forced to carry them all of the time – only then will people be frightened to use them

    oh…

either that or ban them like most civilised counties in the world.

Or, as you said on your Aryan Nation website (thebanclan.com) commenting on the shooting:

And I bet all involved were niggers in this incident as well!.

To bad it wasn’t a sorry-ass fuck like you who was shot or trampled. The world would be a better place.

You mean like Switzerland, where just about every male over the age of 20 has a 9mm SIG-Sauer P220 semi-automatic pistol or a 5.56x45mm Sig 550 rifle at home? Their rate of intentional homicide is less than half of ours. Or were you referring to places with the lowest murder rates per capita in the world? Places like Myanmar, the Sudan, Botswana, Qatar, etc.? O wait! You can buy a gun on any street corner there.

    Woopsie!

Can we have a bunch of gov’t surveillance and Muslim ghettos like most civilized countries in the world too? Stupid argument.

I was hiking once in Switzerland along a trail marked as part of a “gun club.” Sure enough, we came to a place where some men 3-400 yards above us were firing at targets 3-400 yards above us on the opposite side of the valley.

I thought to myself, what if everyone in America were required to be trained and certified like everyone is Switzerland?

WHAT IF WE WERE JUST LIKE SWITZERLAND?–then I realized we would all have to be white and live in a very small place.

    Some dreams remain isolated.

    >>then I realized we would all have to be white

If Whitey doesn’t do it for you, you might want to try the Sudan. Lots of dark faces there, and the death rate from gun homicide is only 1/15th that of Switzerland.

    Good pick

    >>You mean where there is on going genocide and
    >>slavery?

Well, for some reason, in spite of the ready availability of guns and the ongoing genocide and slavery, the rate of intentional homicide by firearm is 0.2/ 100,000. Lowest in the world.

  23. GregA says:

    #13,

You realize that both Switzerland and Israel have much stricter gun control than the US right?

I am glad you are coming around to my way of seeing things. In both those countries there is 100% regulation for every firearm, and you have to have a permit to buy ammunition. All your ammunition has to be accounted for to authorities.

Its nice to know that even NRA types support much stricter gun control now days;)

Yes, I’m sure the guys omitting genocide are sending in complete and accurate statistics.
    ROFL!

  25. Mister Mustard says:

    #24 – GregA

    >>You realize that both Switzerland and Israel
    >>have much stricter gun control than the US
    >>right?

Dunno too much about gun control laws in Israel, but in Switzerland every able-bodied man of military age is required to have a gun and ammunition in his house.

Nobody’s arguing against gun control (well, except for maybe the guys with canned tuna fish and rifles buried in their back yards). And nobody can argue that there are no gun control laws in the US. Sure, the criminals don’t obey them, but they’re there.

I purchased a handgun once (legally) in New Jersey, and the background check involved having the State Police call my boss at 11:30 at night to check up on my suitability for gun ownership (lived in a small town in the boonies; no local police, and the guy who did the background checks worked the night shift). Plus the fingerprinting, etc. How much harder could they make it to get a legal, registered gun? One that could be traced directly to me if I misbehaved? It would have been easier to go into Newark and buy one on the street. But wait….won’t banning guns prevent anyone from having them? Like they couldn’t be easily acquired by the criminally inclined from Pennsylvania, or imported from other countries, like they import the cocaine and heroin? Pfffft.

And England, which has traditionally had a low murder rate, is starting to increase in spite of draconian gun control laws. You can see the REAL effect of gun control in the non-homicide crime statistics; England and Wales have the highest crime rates among the world’s “civilized” nations. So nobody gets shot, they all just get robbed and raped and mugged. Mission accomplished?

  26. Paddy-O says:

    # 24 GregA said, “You realize that both Switzerland and Israel have much stricter gun control than the US right?”

Yes, my friend from Switzerland, and all his friends have auto assault rifles in their home. That isn’t legal in most of the US.

  27. Saywhat says:

I think the other advantage with Switzerland is they have a homogenous and better educated population. It goes along way towards having a lower crime rate.

  28. Alex Wollangk says:

I don’t completely get it either. I’ve never seen any reliable research that ties strict small arms gun control laws to reduced gun crime. I mean, you’d think it would just looking at it intellectually, but a lot of situations of this type don’t necessarily behave the way you’d think.

I’m pretty convinced that most gun control is mostly politicians “getting tough on crime.” It looks good to the soccer moms out there, but doesn’t actually accomplish much. I’d be much more in favor of education. I have two daughters and at some point I really want to educate them in the proper respect for a firearm. (And “if you see a gun, scream and run away” is just plain stupid.) I will most likely never have one in my house, but I can’t control what they come across outside of home. The only reason I haven’t so far is other issues have been higher on the priority list…

  29. Les says:

    #24,
The Swiss government olny holds you accountable for the sealed tin of ammuntion they provide you with. You are free to buy as much additional ammo as you want.

  30. jobs says:

#28 Maybe we should only let people that finished high school or have a IQ over 100 own a gun. That would take the guns out of the hands of at least half of the current owners.
