10 Arrested for Afghan Acid Attack – NYTimes.com — This just never ends with these creeps.
The police in Kandahar have arrested 10 Taliban militants they said were involved in an attack earlier this month on a group of Afghan schoolgirls whose faces were doused with acid, officials in Kandahar said Tuesday.
The officials said that the militants, who were Afghan citizens, had confessed to their involvement in the attack on the schoolgirls and their teachers on Nov. 12 and that a high-ranking member of the Taliban had paid the militants 100,000 Pakistani rupees for each of the girls they managed to burn.
The girls were assaulted Nov. 12 by two men on a motorcycle who were apparently irate that the girls dared to attend high school. The men drove up beside them and splashed their faces with what appeared to be battery acid.

We will never be able to force, teach, bribe or in any other way, change them. As much as I am against their way of life, in the final analysis it is their business.
Our way’s are our own, and we would fight to keep them the way we want them.
Someone should invent chemical-proof burka for them to wear.
And, of course, no remorse for what they have done.
And don’t be surprised if they get off with nothing but a wrist slap and a “don’t do that again!”.
But on a side note, the more these militants do this stuff, the more it reminds the general populace that they don’t want these guys in their neighborhood.

This story is about seizing political control by hiring mercenaries. Not much about religion.
the difference between now and before 9/11 is that these folks are getting prosecuted so things are changing. Not enough, but change comes slowly.
And I ask again, why haven’t we seriously considered neutron bombing the entire Middle East? Lose the so called people, take the oil. It’s the American Way!
According to google 100,000 rupees is a whopping 1,272.3 U.S. dollars…. which makes the story even that much worse. People willing to do that for so little money. Nice place.

The average income in Afghanistan is $280 a year. The article doesn’t say how many were attacked, but let’s say it was just 5. That’s nearly $6400 in bounty getting offered up, or about 20+ times a year’s income. Even split two ways, it’s a lot. Split ten ways It still more than doubles the annual income. That’s a big deal when you are dirt poor, uneducated, and armed religious zealots are showing you an easy way out. I’m not condoning the actions and I am certainly not justifying them, but understanding how it can happen is a key to preventing it from happening again.
Those responsible should be dunked in a pool of acid. But it is their country, though behavior like this shows how far they have to go before they can be a part of the civilized world.
Gee whiz, this just doesn’t make any sense, because, you know, Islam is the Religion of Peace® and all.
These guys must have been members of some other religion, maybe Scientology®
I bet the Evangelicals are green with envy.
If nothing else this shows the folly of trying to institute Western systems there. Just seal off the area and check back every couple of hundred years…

I didn’t mind when we helped native tribal leaders to push out the Taliban. But the invasion & occupation of both Iraq & Afghanistan was extremely stupid. Iraq more so as it changed the balance of power in that part of the world. Not in our favor…
Oh yeah, it’s quite true we need to try to understand these folks and their cultural ways, which couldn’t hurt really. Fair enough. What then, though?
The past eight years reminds me of a comic by R. Crumb called “Western Man”, whereby a big man with a big hat and squinty eyes, after rounding up all the hippies and throwing them in jail, turns and hefts an H-bomb on his shoulder and goes off to “get those commyanists straightened out”.
Well, he came back again…this time he’s saying, “Time to go and get them furrin Muslims straightened out, too”. And so, here we jolly well are.
Possibly better to just let them learn for themselves, fence them all off from the rest of us somehow until they figure out how to stop hating each other.
I believe the only way to end these outrageous strikes against the human rights and innocents in the name of a extreme religion or terror group is to kill the leaders that continue to teach and preach the hateful lessons. If you only strike at the ignorant fools that are brainwashed into service and leave those responsible for the brainwashing the violence will continue until there are no people left at all.
The radical clerics are the ones that need to be found and punished.

Only they were pushed into Pakistan instead of being wiped out. The high command, for whatever reason, allowed the top Taliban to escape.
Yes, I do mind they allowed Osama bin Laden to get away. These innocent children are paying the price of our mistake.

Please, do not dismiss this violence as their ‘cultural ways’, or it being a ‘folly’ trying to institute Western systems in Afganistan! It is important people know, the brutal regime known as the Taliban only came into power in 1996. Women in Afganistan used to go to college, obtain jobs, dress in the fashion of clothes they desired…The Taliban is not their culture, this is not the norm, they are a murderous, masogynistic tyrants who view women’s advancement as the destruction of their livelihoods.
