A fatal moped accident occurred Sunday night, and police believe that the driver was text messaging minutes before the crash. Douglas Flores, 41, was killed when his moped crashed into a telephone pole. Flores’ vehicle was seen driving off of the road before the crash at around 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
Witnesses also told deputies that he may have been trying to text message while driving the scooter.
The sheriff’s office said that the investigation may include looking at Flores’ cell phone records at the time of the accident.
Right now, the sheriff’s department has not been able to locate his cell phone at the scene of the crash.
I imagine that cellphone traveled a pretty fair distance before landing. The telephone pole didn’t move at all.
Oh, some reports say he wasn’t wearing a helmet, either.
I ride a motorcycle and I won’t even listen to an IPod on the thing! What a freakin’ Moran.
Hi luv.
Ye on way now. B back in
At least this moran didn’t kill anyone else.
Ever seen a person decapitated from a guardrail? It’s fucking hilarious.
I’ve seen many moped drivers doing this while driving in Italy. How they manage to live past 25 amazes me.
i wonder, in japan do they text banzai while riding their scooters….
As a truck driver, I’m on the road between 8 and 10 hrs a day. The number of people talking on handheld cell phones is incredible. But lately I’ve noticed a number of drivers of autos texting while driving. They either have both hands at the top of the steering wheel so they can type with both thumbs or have one hand on the wheel and hold the phone/blackberry with the other.
But the top prize still belongs to the young college age woman I saw driving west on I-10 in Texas between Beaumont and Houston. It was at night and she was speeding in the fast lane of the interstate with the dome lite on so she could read a textbook she had open resting on the steering wheel.
A nomination for the 2008 Darwin Awards, I believe!

Driving in Italy!?!? I’m surprised you had time to notice something like this. This would be one of the least dangerous things on the road there. Urban driving, like Rome, just forget it, jump in a cab, close your eyes and pray till you arrive.
Let’s face it, if you’re on 2 wheels it’s just a matter of time. If you’re careful and lucky, roadrash, if not…
Another reason to ride with a helmet. They have bluetooth headsets inside. You could have been protecting that brain of yours AND talked instead of texted.
#10, Answer,
Above a certain speed it all hurts the same.
Last time I was home visiting in PA I was aghast to see they’d revoked the helmet law. Back in 1977 I had a motorcycle accident that would certainly have killed me if it weren’t for the helmet. Even so 3 months of hospitalization. I owe the last 30 years of my life to a helmet law.
I wish you morans would learn how to spell moron. This level of literacy is killing me.
So they think the guy was texting, but they can’t find the cellphone?
