Laid Off Engineer Shoots And Kills Siport CEO And VP — This could become a trend.

Things took a terrible turn yesterday when an Engineer laid off from a local semi-conductor company, Siport, shot and killed the company CEO, Sid Agrawal, VP of Operations, Brian Pugh, and an unidentified woman.

According to the (cached) company Web site, SiPort is a fabless semiconductor company incorporated in 2004 that received its first round of funding in 2005. Sid’s bio states that he held executive management positions at Alliance Semiconductor (IPO), Layer Five Networks (acquired by Juniper) and Synaptics (IPO) and leadership marketing, sales and engineering positions at Adobe, Intel and Bell Labs. The company is backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Morganthaler, New Venture Partners, and Intel Capital.

  1. Peter Gibbons says:

I guess they didn’t let him keep his stapler when they laid him off.

  2. amodedoma says:

Yeah, now here we have a case of The Big Payback (James Brown RIP)! Now if only the management of Enron would have practiced canabalism with their CEO, all of this could have been prevented.

  3. LinusVP says:

Wonder if he used a semi-automatic?

  4. Management: “First against the wall when the revolution comes.”

  5. skunky says:

John, your post sounds like you’re encouraging this kind of behavior or at least justifying it.

  6. jpatt says:

I don’t think John is encouraging it or even justifying it. You have to know that it’s only going to get uglier before it gets better.

  7. velios5 says:

It’s hard to have sympathy for foreigners who come over here and take American jobs. Perhaps Mr Siport or Mr Agrawal would have been happier, and lived longer, in their native countries.

  8. YojiffySkippy says:

I heard the ‘unidentified woman’ was the HR manager. This is classic Darwin theory in practice. How stupid do you have to be to agree to a ‘sit down’ meeting with a ‘downsized employee’? The CEO, VPO AND the HR manager?!?!? Are you kidding me. That’s the tri-fecta for a disgruntled employee.

  9. Personality says:

Is this why the repukes are going out to buy guns like crazy… To have a back up plan when they get laid off?

  10. Unbelievable says:

I find all of your comments to be completely lacking of sensitivity given the fact that three innocent people were murdered. Some of you make it sound like they deserved to be killed for doing their job.

This engineer could have very well been a terrible employee or have done something to merit being fired; You don’t know. Regardless, laying off even the most honest of your workers never warrants a death sentence.

I know this site attracts more of the cynic type but Christ, have at least SOME compassion.

No, I think it was in response to Obama saying he was going to put together an SA like civilian armed force…

  12. Sinn Fein says:

After the Blackwater thugs get kicked out of Iraq once and for all, they can come home to jobs protecting all the fat cat CEO’s and other corporate criminals from an angry proletariat whom they’ve have so much fun screwing over.

  13. Chris Mac says:

    feh

  14. Chris Mac says:

    drek

  15. Because that is the way to solve your problems and feed your family… it’s just a fatal version of the childish notion to break another’s toy when yours break so that no one gets to play. Sad…

  16. Mr. Fusion says:

#10, Cow-Paddy, Ignorant Shit Talking Sociopath,

I think it was in response to Obama saying he was going to put together an SA like civilian armed force…

When did Obama ever say he was putting together a “civilian armed force”?

I know, another phucking stupid comment you just made up you won’t explain.

  17. Digby says:

How old were you when Dan White did the same thing? BYW, that is a nice looking Single Action Revolver there, but I doubt seriously that is what the guy used. My Blackhawk is a bit hard to hide. That’s what the SP101 is for, John. And the poster who asked if it was a semi-automatic …well, that’s what the cops use, but I would use a revolver. No casings left behind…But I am guessing the poster does not know what a semi-automatic is.

  18. Paddy-O says:

    # 15 Mr. Fusion said, “When did Obama ever say he was putting together a “civilian armed force”?”

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

You are actually stupider than you sound. If that is possible.

  19. Mr. Fusion says:

    #14 Russel,

It is also the response of extreme depression after what the future holds sinks in. In years past, the laid off employee would have had a good cry over the futility of it all. Today, with such easy access to guns, it is easier to go shoot the sons of bitches that have ruined his life.

The bigger question would be “how do we get help to people like him before something like this happens.” He would have a hard time getting psychological help as he is laid off which means no health insurance. While he might be an extreme case, most laid off employees do go through mental trauma.

But don’t worry, Cow-Paddy will come up with some answer for us.

  20. Digby says:

#15. Mr Fusion. If you had actually been paying attention to what Mr. BHO said, instead of how he sounded, you would have heard these words:

Made during a speech in the Midwest. You did not hear much about it because the mainstream media was so far left it decided to just “omit” that little bit of somewhat disturbing rhetoric.
To many of us, this sounds very scary. But not to you, I am sure.
Later, recently, his chief of staff discussed the idea and indicated it meant “at least three months service for EVERY person between 18 and 25….and yes, there WILL be jumping jacks”.
But the Kool Aid drinkers out there still won’t believe it, and I am sure you prefer the grape flavor.

Now, I don’t know what you think about that, but the military is pretty huge, and gets plenty of money.

  21. gquaglia says:

One can only hope that Mr Fusion/Mr Mustard is a CEO. Then we won’t have to listen to his spew of nonsense anymore.

  22. Digby says:

Youtube video of Obama’s Militia link did not work. Just search Youtube for Obama Militia, it will pop right up, for the Kool Aid drinkers out there.

    [Embedded. – ed.]

  23. Digby says:

Incidentally, I think I was ahead of the curve. When it appeared that BO was going to take over, my friend and I both purchased our AR 15’s and put them together. Two weeks later, they are sold out across the country. I am sure this gives the liberals brown streaks in their panties.

  24. Also layd off says:

What’s wrong with shooting CEOs, or CFOs, or HR people? They’re not human, they’re psychopaths. I say, let there be a law that enables us to shoot’em all psychos!

  25. Also layd off says:

Better yet, burn them alive, and let them live disfigured and in pain for the rest of their miserable lives.

  26. Paddy-O says:

    # 15 Mr. Fusion said, “When did Obama ever say he was putting together a “civilian armed force”?”

So, Mr. CONfusion, why didn’t you know that your heart throb planned this SA type organization?

This type of organization is VERY unconstitutional. Didn’t Omama study that subject at Harvard?

Where is the American Communist Liberal Union on this issue?

  27. GregA says:

    #25,

My take on this??? I can’t wait until its a church full of republicans lighting themselves on fire!

  28. GregA says:

    #22,

When that day comes, I spent the last 6 years studying IED’s, and when you come over to my house to shoot me, you wont make it past the end of your driveway;)

  29. Mr. Fusion says:

Cow-Paddy, the Ignorant Shit Talking Sociopath and Digby, his gay sidekick.

You guys are too funny. I asked When did Obama ever say he was putting together a “civilian armed force”?

For an answer you quoted part of the speech. I know you don’t know what else he said in the speech. How? Because if you did you would realize what he was talking about. Instead of linking to it, I copied part of the speech that deals with your quote. Your quote is the fourth paragraph.

Today, AmeriCorps — our nation’s network of local, state, and national service programs — has 75,000 slots. And I know firsthand the quality of these programs. My wife, Michelle, once left her job at a law firm and at City Hall to be a founding director of an AmeriCorps program in Chicago that trains young people for careers in public service. And these programs invest Americans in their communities and their country. They tap America’s greatest resource — our citizens.

And that’s why as president, I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens see their efforts connected to a common purpose. People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem — they are the answer.

So we are going to send — we’re going to send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We’ll call on Americans to join an Energy Corps to conduct renewable energy and environmental cleanup projects in their neighborhoods all across the country. We will enlist our veterans to find jobs and support for other vets, to be there for our military families. And we’re going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered, and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy.

We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

We need to use technology to connect people to service. We’ll expand USA Freedom Corps to create online networks where Americans can browse opportunities to volunteer. You’ll be able to search by category, time commitment, and skill sets; you’ll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities. This will empower more Americans to craft their own service agenda, and make their own change from the bottom up.

So, where is this ARMED CIVILIAN FORCE I asked you to point out?

  30. Mr. Fusion says:

Oopps, using blockquotes kind of obliterated the paragraphs. But if you look hard you can see the quoted paragraph and NOWHERE in it does he use the term ARMED.

    #27, Cow-Paddy, blah, blah, blah,

This type of organization is VERY unconstitutional. Didn’t Omama study that subject at Harvard?

Where is the American Communist Liberal Union on this issue?

Which type of organization? The SA you envision or the type of expanded Peace Corp, AmericaCorp Obama envisions?

And what is the American Communist Liberal Union? Another one of your wacked out comments?

So again, where and when did Obama say he wanted to put together an ARMED CIVILIAN FORCE?
