And in other cloud computing news.. http://blogs.zdnet.com/SAAS/?p=607
Good Grief! I hope google doesn’t do that to Page Creator!
I thought the idea of cloud computing was more to have the details available on the internet, rather than having them only on the internet … especially with the photography site that when down, I mean, if that was the only location of your photos then maybe a bit of research into risk analysis will go a long way ….
Early on in Salesforce’s history I rejected them as a product as there didn’t exist an seemless data mirroring function & no local app in case service interruption.
It’s best to keep critical apps & data in-house.
“Cloud Computing” is like holding Both Barrels in your mouth, while two of your worst enemies hold 45’s against each of your temples, with the count-down running …3, 2, 1, …
YOU ARE JUST ASKING FOR IT !!!
And would you TRUST M$ WITH YOU DATA ???
I don’t trust Software, Storage or anything not stored on your computer and even then your hard-drive could fail.
I think all electronic security can broken.
But hey, we all fade away in the end…..
Does AOL have enough money left to cover the lawsuit over lost data?
My home page was on there! Its been my homepage for about 10 years (I’m not a member anymore, but they let me keep the homepage/ email). It was wierd when I saw that page instead of my basic html links page. I have no idea how to get those pages back. I guess I’m using protopage now.
Cloud computing fails again! Dvorak must be having a laugh.
Deferred vaporware?
WAAAAHHH!!

Critical data should always be backed up – whether or not you host it “in the cloud” or not. You should also always have an off-site backup – whether you host it “in the cloud” or not.
They even gave everyone 30 days notice that it was going to happen: http://tinyurl.com/3wg7zd.
I also believe that AOL should give people access to their data for another month – even if the portal is no longer publicly “up.”

If they’re still part of Time Warner they probably have the cash.
Makes me want to rush right out and put everything in the cloud.
This is the second time EMC has lost AOL Hometown data. You can buy better, but you can’t pay more!
What part of AOL SUCKS don’t you understand, AOL has been robbing people blind for years, like many corporations who make lots of money they did it by STEALING from people who don’t know better, they have ALWAYS been scum and always will be, tell your friends and family that AOL is a ripoff!
