Do they actually want to win in 2012 or is this too-soon-after-losing-an-election ideology before electability wishful thinking? I’d like to see a poll of why they think they lost.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republican voters say Alaska Governor Sarah Palin helped John McCain’s bid for the presidency, even as news reports surface that some McCain staffers think she was a liability.

Only 20% of GOP voters say Palin hurt the party’s ticket, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Six percent (6%) say she had no impact, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

Ninety-one percent (91%) of Republicans have a favorable view of Palin, including 65% who say their view is Very Favorable. Only eight percent (8%) have an unfavorable view of her, including three percent (3%) Very Unfavorable.

When asked to choose among some of the GOP’s top names for their choice for the party’s 2012 presidential nominee, 64% say Palin. The next closest contenders are two former governors and unsuccessful challengers for the presidential nomination this year — Mike Huckabee of Arkansas with 12% support and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts with 11%.

    This way and that.

That’s what happens when things go awry.

  2. deowll says:

Palin is very popular in my part of the country. I saw signs that had her name rather than McCain.

The women libs can’t stand her because they know if that youngest kid had been theirs they’d have killed it. All they have to do is look at her to feel like they’re pond scum and and blame Palen for the feeling. Nobody is easier to hate than somebody who lives up to a higher standerd than you do.

Hoover was a Republican. He may not have been any worse informed than others but he got the blame for everything because the fall out started during his term.

FDR got the most terms of any President however some of his ideas got nixed and others may have actually prolonged the depression. He is the reason we now have term limits for Presidents.

It may even be that if Obama and the Dems blow everything but Obama has a slick enough line he can blame it all on Bush and those dirty Reps and stay in power.

I thought Palin was the candidate, you mean McCain was running for President? I thought he was some sack of Sh*t standing in field to act as a place holder Scare Crow.

I voted for Palin, hopping McCain would die after being sworn in.

I wouldn’t think she’ll be running in 2012,the same elite’s that gave us Bush and McCain won’t let that happen.

Time for a third, fourth or even fifth party. Everyone is so against that, we got Lincoln because of five different candidates running for president, I can only see good from it, right now all we get is Little Left Globalist Rublicrates and Biggie Lift Demoncrats running both going to the same place, Global despotism ( Medieval Elites intent of a Global revolution to put the power back into the few and those born to it and it’s connections/network ).

  6. Ivor Biggun says:

I notice that none of the Marxist-wannabes or disgruntled liberal Republicans are criticizing Sarah Palin based on any of her ideas. That shows me that her ideas are solid and that, if she so chooses, she can study up for the next four years and make a very serious run at the Presidency. How many of you yahoos know who the chief chicken-spanker of Nepal is? You don’t because you didn’t have to know. Intelligence is measured far differently than Joe Biden wants to have it measured. Sarah Palin understands the basis on which this country was formed and can articulate those ideas quite well. And after 4 years of Lord Emperor Obumma, she will look pretty good to a lot more people. That is, if we even have real elections by then.

  7. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

#38…Palin is a sound bite/talking point regurgitator, just like GWB. I’ve yet to hear her say anything even remotely original.

She had a chance to tell us what she thought in a debate, and instead she wasted our time by making jokes, repeating the talking points, and winking. Biden could have wiped his ass with her, easily, but instead he played it for the long term.

You deserve better then her, and so do I.

  8. QB says:

I thought she was perfectly qualified to be VP. All she has to do was break ties in the Senate and shoot old men in the face.

Unfortunately she wasn’t ready to be President. Maybe someday, but not yet. The question is, does the Republican party wants to continue down the Christian populist route (see last 8 years) or head back towards core conservative values.

“Elites” gave us Bush and McCain? Jesus. That’s what comes from their “elite”? I’d hate to see what their vocational school dropouts would give us. Barney the Dinosaur?

Oh wait. There were no dinosaurs. Or were there some, and Jesus rode around on them? It’s all so confusing. I need an “elite” to explain it all to me.

Wait! What are you saying?? Palin has ideas?? Why haven’t we heard about this before? The last time I heard, she couldn’t come up with the names of a couple of newspapers she claims to “read”, and she thought Africa was a country.

What are these ideas? This is shocking new evidence!

  11. Ivor Biggun says:

    $42, Mr. Must-tard

See what I mean? You weren’t even paying attention to what she says because you were staring at her thighs the whole time.

  12. mister mustard says:

    #43 – Ivor Big One

Her thighs were not visible during the Katie Couric interview where she couldn’t think of any newspapers’ names. Nor were they visible when she was whipping the inmates into a “KILL HIM” frenzy at the rally, or when she was making whoopie over President-Elect Obama “palling around” with terrorists.

The only “ideas” I’ve ever heard her enunciate are that she wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, some ditzy holy-roller thoughts, and she seems partial to The First Dude’s desire to secede from the Union.

If she has some actual ideas, how about a little hint as to what they are?

She did an excellent job of hiding them during the debate. Is that because they were too wacky to reveal in public, or is she just shy?

  13. QB says:

    # 43 Ivor Biggun said “See what I mean? You weren’t even paying attention to what she says because you were staring at her thighs the whole time.”

I don’t get this strange idea that “liberals” are fantasizing about Sarah Palin. By that reasoning, all conservatives are masturbating to pictures of Hillary Clinton.

That means Ivor is a cankles man! You kinky little devil. 😉

  14. Mr. Fusion says:

    #38, I Wish I had A Biggun

How many of you yahoos know who the chief chicken-spanker of Nepal is?

Well, I don’t. Mainly because I’m not into chicken spanking and have no idea about it. Is this a sport or just a right wing nut fetish?

You don’t because you didn’t have to know.

I don’t know because I have no desire to learn anything more about chicken spanking until someone can explain why it is important. Seeing that you are well acquainted with chicken spanking, maybe you could link to some more explanation.

Sarah Palin understands the basis on which this country was formed and can articulate those ideas quite well.

Sure, like not being able to name any of the important Supreme Court decisions that helped form the country, such as Ferguson v Plessy, Brown v School Board or Topeka Kansas, or Roe v Wade. Or, who the members of the North American Free Trade Agreement are. Or even how good her eye sight is looking out her window in Wasilla. Then there are the exorcisims by the African witch doctor and speaking in tongues, or saying NO to the Bridge to Nowhere after saying YES to the Bridge to Nowhere.

And after 4 years of Lord Emperor Obumma, she will look pretty good to a lot more people. That is, if we even have real elections by then.

The guy is the President elect. His party has yet to be sworn in or his cabinet chosen. So why the hell do you prejudge him into thinking people will think his policies are so bad?

Look, Palin offered nothing new to the scene. The best she did was energize some of the less intelligent right wing nuts that would have voted Republican even if McCain ate fetuses on national television. She didn’t bring or win over any of the independents the McCain camp needed to win.

She might be an able small town mayor. She might even rise to a small State Governor, given all the professional help from the Department heads. Unfortunately, she is too far from being a national leader.

  15. movie fan says:

If Palin runs for President in 2012, at least she has name recognition going for her… but that may not work in her favor

  16. Mr. Fusion says:

    #47, fan,

Good point. Unfortunately that name recognition is one of incompetence and ignorance. She will have a big hill to climb to change peoples opinions.

  17. QB says:

90% of McCain/Palin support was white. If Sarah Palin shows up as the Repulican candidate in 2012 with the small town, resentful, anti-competent government, white only populist platform then they may as well not hold the election.

  18. Palin for president? Sure. I’d vote for this Palin for President. I certainly would never vote for the Wacko from Wasilla. Barracuda Barbie’s 15 minutes are up, I sincerely hope.

  19. QB says:

She’s currently the front runner in Republican’s minds for 2012 if she can keep her state from falling into a hole and buy herself a world atlas.

It’s clear that the Republican party establishment wouldn’t want her as their candidate, but voting in primaries is done mainly by card carrying Republicans who love her.

    >> She’s currently the front runner

Surely you jest. Tell me that you’re just funnin’ us…PLEASE!!!

No reasonable person thought she was qualified to be VICE president in 2008. Are you seriously saying that there are people who think she can be rehabbed from the empty-headed know-nothing of this election into someone who could be leader of the Free World??

It’s bone-chilling to think that there are even a small number of people who think this.

I thought McCain was a schmuck with shitty ideas, but at least he had the gravitas for people to take him seriously. But that lightweight, mean-spirited, ingnorant will o’ the wisp Palin?

    Gak.

Oh well, at least if she runs, we’re GUARANTEED another four years of Obama, no matter WHAT he does in office.

  24. QB says:

Mustard, no I’m not kidding. She ain’t presidential timber by a long shot but I have a feeling she could capture the candidacy in 2012 because of the dynamics of the US nomination process.

She’d lose badly in a general election however.

  25. MikeN says:

Palin should run in 2012 if only to jumpstart the ‘Bush was actually pretty smart’ stories that will come out the next time the Left wants to say the current Republican is an idiot.

We saw it with Bush’s presidency, Reagan was very bright, well read, etc, as well as a rehabilitation of Dan Quayle.

  26. Jägermeister says:

    #54 – Misanthropic Scott

    He’s a very intelligent guy.

  27. doug says:

#55. Yes, she is the front-runner for 2012. Of course, that is several eternities from now, so it is basically meaningless at this point.

But the fact that she is the front-runner is a real indicator of how utterly bankrupt the GOP is. If she becomes de facto head of the party, forget Reagan’s big tent – during the campaign, she refused to stand on the stage with pro-choice Republicans and those who opposed drilling in ANWAR, then had to be ordered into it by the McCain camp.

And today, another GOP celebrity (the governator) with some crossover appeal made a point of dodging the question when asked if it was a mistake for McCain to have picked her.

I would like to take this chance to issue an open letter:

    Dear Republicans,

I’ve heard a lot of stories, and I would just like to say this: by all means, cling to Sarah Palin, GOP! bypass any potential candidate that might help you regain the ground you lost with moderates, suburbanites, Hispanics, young people and others who might be inclined to vote for you, given a non-repugnant candidate.

    sincerely,

Your ‘Friends’ in the Democratic Party

p.s. there’s always 2016! Unless, of course, the Mayans pegged it.

  28. mister mustard says:

    >>Palin should run in 2012 if only

    >>actually pretty smart’ stories

Sweet mother of God. A fully charged defibrillator couldn’t jumpstart stories like that. 230kV direct from the power grid couldn’t jumpstart stories like that. Even comparing a low-wattage bulb like Palin to Bush couldn’t start stories like that.

And Dan Quayle has been “rehabilitated”? What, he learned how to spell “potato”?

One thing nobody ever accused the Republican party of was being pretty smart.

  29. phoenix5 says:

Please, please, please run, Palin! It’s going to be hilarious.

Seriously, though, I doubt she would survive a Republican primary battle. During this election, Republican bigwigs pretended to like and support her for VP because they had no choice! But in a few years, when she is on her own and competing against other Republicans to be the frontrunner of the Republican party, expect her to get slaughtered by those in her own party.

She’s basically a female Bush– shallow intellect and shallow world perspective. And she’s in an even worse position than Bush because she is such a political outsider. At least Bush had somewhat of an established political machine behind him (his father was, after all, President. Palin is about as outside the Washington beltway as Alaska is outside the contiguous United States.

Regardless of who the Repubs choose for 2012, they will have a serious uphill battle against them. Obama is going to be a very good, very effective, very savy President. And I say this as a lifelong Republican. I don’t underestimate Obama’s intellect or skill. Anyone who has paid any attention to Obama’s meteoric rise and success would be utterly foolish to underestimate this man’s talent.

  30. bpaskin says:

Palin did energize the Republican base, but that’s about it. I am not sure the Republicans can win with just their base. And Republicans need to expand past gays and abortion if they hope to attract more people.

I would like a President smarter than I am. Palin does not fit that bill.
