Only time will tell whether President-Elect Barack Obama will be able to deliver on his promise to bring change to government, but the Illinois senator has already brought it to the dot-gov domain. Obama’s transition Web site, Change.gov, went live, soliciting suggestions from citizens and providing a guide to the people and procedures behind the transfer of executive power.

In many ways, the site—fairly clearly still a work in progress—resembles that of any other government agency, with biographies of the transition team, backgrounders on the incoming president’s policy priorities, and links to information about the cabinet offices to be filled when the Obamas move into the White House on January 20. But the speed with which the site was launched may nevertheless be an attempt to signal that Obama is serious about his pledge to bring greater transparency to government, and to put more data online more rapidly for public comment. A Change.gov blog, for instance, promises regular updates on the transition process.

Perhaps most surprisingly, there’s a jobs page where visitors can submit applications for non-career positions in the new administration—including, apparently, some that “require Senate confirmation.”

So, how many here will be applying for a job?

I voted for McCain but now is the time for us to show the world what a unified US can do. As McCain said, we might disagree but he will be my president so ill give my life for this country and my president no matter what.

  6. Dallas says:

Wonderful. It shows President elect Obama is serious about government transparency.

When the Republicans go on their angry tirade and stall government because they are still sore loser, I hope their names and addresses get posted to this site.

I bought lots of toilet paper and cream pies just for that purpose of going over to pay them a visit.

  7. Paddy-O says:

Pretty funny. Sheeple will send their suggestions into a black hole and then wait for the bread & circus.

    Obama is an excellent marketer.

  8. Libertican says:

    From CNN in 12/2000:
“The Bush-Cheney transition team privately raised $1.5 million, set set up a Bush-Cheney Transition Web site and taken in 18,000 resumes.

There is little more than five weeks left before Bush assumes the presidency on January 20, and the team will quickly set up shop in the official offices located in the heart of Washington and begin selecting candidates for more than 6,400 administration jobs — including 1,125 that require Senate confirmation.”

The http://www.bushcheneytransition.com website from Winter 2000 is for sale. Might be fun to buy and post some parting shots.

  9. James Hill says:

So how original of an idea is this? Not that it’s a bad thing to do, but the idealism of #4 and #5 is naive at best.

#6 – Angry liberals aren’t allowed to be angry anymore. Really, your post just shows your own lack of confidence about Obama and his ability to get anything done. Give the guy some slack…

    #3 – …at least for the first 100 days.

Obama’s been elected for 2 days now – where’s my welfare check?

  13. Dallas says:

#9 Here you go, James, another evidence of the GOP party eating itself.
Are you guys like lobsters in a tank? Maybe a bunch of lesbians after a beer party and coke.

Anyway, I thought you would be interested in this and help you get out denial as to why McCain lost.

#14 This is just a link to a video of a reporter who is a Dem talking about suspected rumors.

What were you trying to show?

  15. ObamaYoMama says:

Why is this warmed over version of Obama’s campaign website on a .gov domain? It is run by the Obama-Biden Transition Project which claims to be a 501c(4) nonprofit organization which are typically used for political lobbying.

  16. Beppo says:

Click on the “America Serves” tab on Change.gov. Notice that he wants to “require” community service for youth. I have nothing against community service — I think people should serve — but it should be by volunteering and not being forced by the government.

    But Obama did promise CHANGE…

  17. JimD says:

McCain failed because he was McBush, when the Country wanted ANYTHING BUT BUSH !!! And selecting Palin was just a TON OF BRICKS on top of all McCain’s negatives; ie: NO HELP !!!

And Obama was CERTAINLY NOT BUSH, so the rest is History !!!

  18. Paddy-O says:

    # 18 JimD said, “McCain failed because he was McBush, when the Country wanted ANYTHING BUT BUSH … And Obama was CERTAINLY NOT BUSH, so the rest is History”

Yes, we know. However, that is a stupid way to choose. I don’t want cyanide either, but to take anything that is NOT cyanide isn’t bright.

We know that Obama isn’t Bush. What we don’t know is what Obama IS.

  19. James Hill says:

#11 – No, just doing what I always do: Taking interesting threads seriously, and destroying the dull ones.

#14 – Worship, noted. You do understand that your only reason for being here to to worship me, yes?

Once again, no substance to your post. There’s always someone in a campaign talking shit after a loss. That’s why serious news outlets don’t follow up on the story after the initial report.

#18 – Another ignorant post, complete will all-caps. Obama won: why do you insist that it was McCain’s to lose.

Your worship of the GOP is noted as well.

  20. Floyd says:

#20: JimD and ECA love to write in ALL CAPS. Just ignore them. JimD has one good point though: Obama won because he is not at all like Bush. He’s an eloquent speaker, and in his first few days has shown that he thinks about his decisions (about his transition staff) and doesn’t shoot from the hip.

  21. Louis F. Conca, Jr. says:

Lou, age 87 and counting, said:

FROM THE BEGINNING I TOLD MY WIFE AND ALL WITHIN EARSHOT THAT THIS YOUNG SENATOR, BARACH OBAMA, WAS THE ONLY CANDIDATE RUNNING FOR THE 44TH PRESIDENT WHOM I THOUGHT LOOKED AND ACTED PRESIDENTIAL.
I HAVE MORE THAN A GOOD FEELING THAT HE WILL BRING ABOUT THE CHANGES HE HAS PROMISED.
MY SON, DR. JAMES L. CONCA, PHD, GEO-CHEMIST, WHO IS A SCIENTIST AND WHO HAS MET WITH PRESIDENT-ELECT’S SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR, AGREED WITH ME FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.

may be a lot of people are thinking this way.
that could throw a wrench into how many cars they think they will sell. and thank god i did’nt buy a new car this year.

    I Believe in you,

  24. felmanmd says:

I worked my heart out to get Obama elected and now am heartsick when i hear that he will not get our troops out of Iraq for another 3 years and that he plans to escalate the war in Afganistan. Apparently he is breaking his campaine promises before he is even inaugurated.

If he does not move to remove our troops from the middle east we should mount an effort through Congress to have him impeached.

  25. memory says:

wars are fought for political solutions. if obama is for change as he says he has to tell both the jews and the palestinians that they have to sotp the fighting. jews are haunted by their past, and the palestinians are lonely so the best thing to do is to establish the two autonomous states side by side and give back the palestinaians their gaza ac cess and STOP CURRY FAVORING TO THE JEWS while those other folk suffer. obama has to change from the bush strategy of only politics
