The networks have refused to call this out of fear of losing advertising dollars. It’s over. By a wide margin.

  2. Sea Lawyer says:

Heh, Clinton never even managed to achieve a majority of the vote. Not sure I would run to him as an example of mandate.

“The primary issue was the economy! Obama had a very clear plan for the economy. He won. That is a mandate.”

Sure, but I would only add two caveats. “The economy” it too broad a topic to be given a free pass on everything involving it; and most of the electorate has very little knowledge about what they are actually voting on, as far as the real economic impact of policies goes.

  3. SnotLikeBlasterpoop says:

#100 – “we have to come together in a spirit of sacrifice” BS, no we don’t. I don’t need to sacrifice a damn thing.
“we have a long way to climb…” from where? We’re already the greatest nation that ever existed – right now.

His whole outlook is a negative look at how “awful” America is. Bullshit. It will be awful if he drags us down to the level of the rest of the world.

And why hasn’t unleashed his godlike powers already? I’ve pooped 3 times since the election and no rainbows yet. I suppose maybe that doesn’t start until the innauguration.

All of the libs at work today were paradoxically gloomy. My analysis is that they will soon have the bullseye on them and their boy wonder president. They can no longer expend their anger on G.W. so it will turn inward and dems and libs will have to ‘up the dose’ on their Prozac.

  7. soundwash says:

    #204 -rofl. right on..

But Obama means change! Ya, right.

  9. SnotLikeBlasterpoop says:

Why are people arguing over what constitutes a fucking landslide?

Are you people serious? Grow the fuck up already.

Obama won, he more than doubled McCain’s electoral vote count, and won by 7 million plus votes.

Who gives a shit whether or not it was a ‘landslide’?

  13. James Hill says:

All this talk about “mandate” is pretty funny. He’s a Democrat, and he now has to please both the various segments of his party and the Republicans he’s promised to reach across the aisle and work with.

Remember Bush’s comment about “I’ve got political capital, and I’m going to spend it.” BHO is going to take a more reasoned approach, and not assume he has a mandate. That’s the smart thing to do.

WASHINGTON — Mortgage finance company Fannie Mae acknowledged today that it spent more than $6,000 on a golf outing after it was seized by the government earlier this year, but said it is halting similar company-sponsored events.

“Sovereign Bancorp is “on the brink” of needing more capital after announcing late Friday it sold off its collateralized-debt obligations at around “35 cents on the dollar”, Friedman Billings Ramsey & Co. analyst James Abbott told investors. That, plus Sovereign’s unusually large Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac securities ownership, and the “severe turn for the worse” in the Northeast economy (Sovereign is the No. 3 bank in New England)” Philly.com

“Banco Santander recently agreed to buy the rest of Sovereign Bancorp Inc. for a rock-bottom price, but the planned takeover of the state’s third-largest bank has not been cheap.”

“Gov. Rendell officially put the Pennsylvania Turnpike up for sale or lease this morning.

Private operators, some of whom have been checking into the turnpike for nearly a year, have until Dec. 22 to submit their proposals, Rendell said at a news conference.

Privatizing the turnpike is one of several options Rendell plans to present to state legislators by late January as a means of curing Pennsylvania’s ailing network of roads, bridges and mass transit.

The state’s take from a private turnpike deal could range from $2 billion to $30 billion, Rendell said. He added, however, that the lower figure would be unacceptable. If the price were right, he said, all proceeds would be invested in a trust fund, with all interest income going toward transportation needs.

“We don’t take this step lightly,” the governor said, adding that Pennsylvania’s transportation needs were too pressing to ignore any possible solutions.

“There is only one option that is not on the table,” Rendell said. “And that is doing nothing.””

It’s like the old does anybody want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge?

“As of 2008 the motorway plan is contested because the route passes near the Hill of Tara and through the archaeologically rich Tara-Skryne valley or Gabhra. The planned route corridor was approved by An Bord Pleanála (Ireland’s planning appeals board) in August 2003. The development is controversial, however construction is now well underway despite threats of further legal challenges.[1][2] Objectors, including more than 350 academics and the head of the National Museum of Ireland, say the motorway will irreparably damage the region’s heritage.” Wikipedia

obama is a megalomaniac…the only person
he wants to please is himself, -and his/the Bankmasters holding the noose around his neck.

oh, and this was no mandate or landslide, -not even close. the stockmarket’s response to his win made sure of that. it was however, the most brilliant marketing of a new product.

when you have over billion dollars to market
that new product, you can convince the public
your new product will solve all your problems and walk on water to boot.

-the fact that they took the security checks
off his donation website so that joe shmo living on the moon could donate didn’t hurt either.. ofc that, apparently, is not news
worthy of reporting. had he stuck to his original promise of not taking private
funds, i think we’d have a different outcome
    yesterday -but i digress(again)

last night, the news was interviewing blacks up on 125th street after the win. this one lady was saying, “i know i want have to worry about my job or paying my bills anymore now that obama is president” (talk about delusional)

-now that is an effective Ad campaign. -that only could have been made possible with saturation bombing of the airwaves and *alot* of money. -oh, and of course, a naive, misinformed, uninformed and gullible public. (most crucial)

    ok, enough of that.

unrelated: oddly, i think mccains concession
speech was the best speech of the whole campaign. -for him, obama and anyone else for that matter.

obama’s acceptance speech was well, depressing
but very telling for those with a clue..

one minor note. in the past few weeks i saw alot of “candid” interviews of mccain. i’ve held a neutral view of him overall, but after seeing him in a relaxed environz i must say. for a politician, the fact that he had no problem admitting his faults or failures was quite amazing -for a politician. he actually transmitted an air genuinosity, as it were.

imo, he could have won, had he ignored his advisers and gone with his “gut” -in an unfixed election that is.

-but alas, he was ran against obama specifically to lose. you could see it in his
body language. -he was doing many things that went against his core moral code.

anyway, its all water under the bridge.

So, according to you, So, 1992, 1996 and 2004 were all landslides? We all know you are a fanatic, but you cannot seriously believe that. That would mean that most Presidential victories are landslides. I guess to you, there is a landslide and a close win and nothing in between? Was your PhD dissertation was on distorted reality?

  20. KevinL says:

Nobody left to blame now. To bad he only gets 2 years to fix all these problems before the Dems lose the House and Senate.

  21. GregA says:

Mandate – The opposing party has no power to prevent Obama from enacting his plan. That is the current situation. LOL, he hasn’t even told you guys what he plans to do and you are already against it.

Landslide – A victory great enough to make christianista republicans commit mass suicide.

The first one is the current situation. The second one will happen in the next few weeks;)

I suggest going back and reading that grief counseling link I keep posting, you guys are only on the first step;) DENIAL.

If I were to be self serving, I would say… Please keep it up!!! The more obstructionist the new American majority sees you guys, the better we will do;)

Also… Who exactly is running your party? You guys don’t seem to have any leadership figures remaining;)

  22. deowll says:

When is a wide margin not a wide margin?

    When its 6%.

I did some checking and that was the difference in the popular vote that I found.

This is the kind of mandate for change that can change in a heart beat if the voters don’t get what they want.

The problem for the dems is they have to do something now and it better make their voters happy only I don’t think everybody is going to be happy.

Historically they never have been no matter who was in office.
