“If that is true, then it is the greatest sign of our failing education system. ”

No, it is a sign of what a high IQ and lots of money can get you. Just because I don’t think like you and express myself like you think I should, doesn’t mean the education system has failed. I have seen your nonsensical posts about what you think you know. That, my friend, is much more damning to the state of education in America. LOL

“Your posts make you sound like a whiny teenager.”

Well aren’t you the arbiter of social interaction. Since when has personality been a qualifier for education or intelligence? Anyone that allows their Ph. D. to turn them into a putz with a stick up their ass doesn’t have anything more than book knowledge. LOL

“I’ve met many Ph’d’s in my day and none of them end their sentences with “LOL”.”

You may have met them but you didn’t know them. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!! The ones that I know, many, are some of the rowdiest and most vulgar people around. You just have to see them in the right surroundings. After all they are just people. They have likes and dislikes. They have emotions. They have habits. They have addictions. They have sex. They ARE NOT royalty that has to conform to some sudo-social behavior pattern predetermined by you!!! LOL

Once again Thomas, your ignorance of reality leaps of the screen!!!! LOL

    >> We did not have the concept of illegal
    >>aliens until the late 19th century.

Oh. OK. How about “immoral aliens”? You know. The ones who rape, beat, and slaughter the original inhabitants, then steal their land and “relocate” them to reservations?

Does that make you feel better?

  11. brm says:

Why is “mobile phones per capita” on this list?

Medical News Today on infant mortality: “It is interesting to note that not one English-speaking country appears in the top 14.”

“Democracy” is a specious measure. What does that even mean? And do we score low on it because we’re a Republic? And before anyone gets all bent out of shape about how much they hate the Republic-not-a-Democracy argument, does this list count things like proposition voting toward the measurement?

Why isn’t military strength on this list? Or natural resources? Or food production? Or number of colleges and universities (and the number of foreigners who come to study here)?

But yeah, we get it. America sucks. Maybe we should refer every immigrant to this list when they’re trying to get in.

Quibble Here, quibble there. A few have tried to counter with what USA is No 1 in. Square Footage of Houses owned, err–mortgaged, ERRR—in Default seems about it?

Actually, just to quibble, I thought phone cell use was a measure of technology adoption but it might also reflect failure of a viable hard line phone system and/or lack of desktop computers or other actual more beneficial things.

But still, my friends, can’t we deal with the truth? USA is on a slow slide already somewhat removed from the start of it all.

How much debt can a nation build up, how many jobs can be outsourced, how great can the wealth gap become, before important things really are affected?

Clean the mindless patriotism out of your eyes and take an objective look.

Endless blather over a picture/graph from undocumented sources. Highly suspect. I could make a graph with data of my choosing that would rank all of the countries in an entirely different order. Whenever these types of graphs appear there is always huge anti-U.S. bias in them. The methodologies are often heavily politicized.

  23. bobbo says:

J==(re #51) –I’ve tried for years to understand the “Shroendenberg’s Cat Paradox” (sic spelling) where like electrons you put a cat in a box with a capsule of cyanide with a timer set to go off on a random schedule.

The paradox is that you never know whether or not the cat (ie position of the electron)alive or dead until you look. THAT is supposed to mean the status of the cat is both alive and dead until you look and confirm one or the other which somehow affects the status of the cat.

I don’t see any paradox at all–just not being able to tell something until you look at it.

Unless it violates your “pay to play” ethic, could you better explain the paradox or the explanation of it to reveal the subtlety of quantum mechanics?

Ever so greatfull if you can pull it off.

  24. Guyver says:

    90,

The view is GREAT. Keep up with the juvenile PhD rants. 🙂

The comment BRM made was merely complementing you on how you prefer not to mingle in the real world which is why teaching “stupid” people Quantum Mechanics at $500/hour is an admirable and honorable thing. How you picture yourself against those who pay you to learn is quite revealing about your personality and ego. You’re quite the humble person. 🙂

    #91, HanahMontanaGurl

Whenever these types of graphs appear there is always huge anti-U.S. bias in them.

Can you show us which of these ranking is incorrect and what would be the correct ranking.

Some categories, such as life expectancy or longevity should be pretty easy to to figure out, what is the average age people die. Ooopps, the US is down the list, mostly as a result of poor people can’t afford medical care and the rampant use of firearms.

Well, how about internet speed? Sure, what is the average speed of the line or cable. Oopps, ya, Americans are being screwed because the money is being pocketed by the telcos instead of upgrading the network.

Well there is scientific literacy. Ya, we’ll make it just one simple question,”is evolution true”? Oopps, believe it or not, there are still quite a few people that will pray over a ship wreck instead of trying to rescue the passengers.

Quality of Health Care? Well when 1 in 7 Americans can’t afford to see a doctor, sure this one will take a hit. Or how about the 1/4 of the population that have to decline a procedure because the insurance company found a way not to pay for it.

Mobile phones per capita? After watching the kids at the Mall, I find that hard to believe. BUT, I refuse to have a cell phone. Hey, America is still #16 so I guess by that standard we aren’t as bad as we are on longevity or health care.

So just what are the correct rankings?

    Links please.
