Politics is not for the faint of heart, especially in the final days of a tight race. Still, amid all the attack ads on the airwaves competing to out-ugly one another, we think we’ve found a winner.

Sen. Elizabeth Dole, a Republican of North Carolina is trying to hold onto her seat in an extremely close race, and to that end, she is attacking the religious faith of her opponent, Kay Hagan. Listen to the ad…

Yeah, you heard that right: “There is no God.” The only problem is Kay Hagan never said it. Never. Just a picture of her face over someone else’s audio. Kay Hagan is a member of the Presbyterian Church. She is a former Sunday school teacher.

The fundraiser the ad mentions was not hosted by the Godless American Political Action Committee. A member was one of 40 different co-hosts.

The information in this ad is so ridiculously misleading, and yet, Dole is standing by it and continuing to raise questions about Hagan’s so-called “godlessness” on the campaign trail. Is this really what it comes down to?

Yes, I think we might qualify as a 21st Century nation if silliness like this didn’t count. Do you know any voters who would be affected by tripe like this?

Ah, I see what you are saying. I thought you were referring to a minister that supported McCain that the MSM reported on over a year ago.

I’ve never watched a McCain or Obama rally. So, I can’t comment on what I haven’t seen or heard.

  2. grass4 says:

They’re back… Brendal and Paddy-O… the troll twins.

Don’t be too hard on Brenda Lee. She’s going through menopause.

“I thought you were referring to a minister that supported McCain that the MSM reported on over a year ago.”

John Hagee? Why the hell would I be talking about him?

“So, I can’t comment on what I haven’t seen or heard.”

You sure did comment when clips appeared on the DU blog.

  5. Paddy-O says:

#35 J “John Hagee? Why the hell would I be talking about him?”

That’s the only one I can think of. Name the person YOU are talking about….

“You sure did comment when clips appeared on the DU blog.”

Really? Don’t remember viewing clips of a McCain rally on DU. Please link.

  6. James Hill says:

The ad is only sleazy if you think it’s wrong to attack someone for not believing in God.

    (Paddy-O wins another thread.)

  7. GregA says:

    #37,

And yet back in meta-game I just had a republican asplode in my store. You are not allowed to slap liberals, no matter what Rush tells you guys;)

  8. jbenson2 says:

Do you know any voters who would be affected by tripe like this?

    What a dumb elitist question.

Ever heard of the Bible Belt? It’s in the South, and includes North Carolina.

Google it and you will get your answer.

  9. vote subgenius says:

Do you know any voters who would be affected by tripe like this?

Yes those bitter ones who cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them.

God help us (if there is a god) if they win the big one again

  10. withani says:

so, not only am i from north carolina, i live in the district in which they are running. and the ads are almost non-stop. on any local programming, its just a back and forth of hagen and dole.

i think dole’s goose is cooked. her campaign is super desperate. after it came out that she only spent 15 days in NC last year, there seemed to be a tide turn.

  11. Jägermeister says:

Sleazy ad for sleazy Republican voters. Now it even becomes too much for some folks at Fox News

  12. bobbo says:

Is this the sleaziest Republican ad?

Why the adjective? The implication can only be that Democrat ads are generally worse, and I don’t think thats your position?

Anyhoo, This ad would be the sleaziest ad of all time even if it were true. The fact that it is false is just Republican/Rove “special sauce” on the cake.

It is amusing. Any issue has a range of arguments that support it. Antagonists pick the weakest argument and think they have won their position–not having the guts or ability to address/confute the stronger arguments in favor of a position.

    Silly Hoomans.

No. There is also Arnold Conrad. But I never mentioned a minister. That was you! So…….

    A reality show… and it’s FREE! 😉

  15. Paddy-O says:

#44 J “No. There is also Arnold Conrad. But I never mentioned a minister. That was you! So…….”

I didn’t say you mentioned a minister. What is your point?

  16. J says:

So, everyone calling O’bama a Marxist really only has one point to connect him with it. He wants to continue the progressive tax system that we have had in America for a very long time.

LOL So fucking lame!!!! That being the case then McCain is also a Marxist. I don’t hear him saying he was going to discontinue the graduated tax system.

  17. J says:

oops! wrong thread with that last post.

  18. James Hill says:

    #38 – LOL!

At least the liberals aren’t pitching out Obama-will-have-the-election-taken-from-him threads today.

  19. Paddy-O says:

#47 J “He wants to continue the progressive tax system that we have had in America for a very long time.”

Right. And the Repubs want to end it as they don’t like Marxism.

    What’s there to argue about?

  20. J says:

    # 46 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker

“I didn’t say you mentioned a minister. What is your point?”

    You said …

“I thought you were referring to a minister that supported McCain that the MSM reported on over a year ago.”

    I never mentioned a minister.

    then you asked……

“Name the person YOU are talking about….”

So I gave you the names of some racist ministers that support John McCain. I don’t know why you asked. I never mentioned anything about racist ministers that support McCain because I don’t care.

  21. J says:

    # 50 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker.

“Right. And the Repubs want to end it as they don’t like Marxism.”

No they don’t. Show me that in McCains economic plan.

  22. Paddy-O says:

#51 So, we’re back to that we are concerned about racists who support both candidates.

Since they both have that same problem it doesn’t change opinion about voting for one or the other.

    So, what was your point?

  23. Rolando says:

Thank you dvorak.org/blog for informing me on who to vote for!
    (Hagen!)

  24. J says:

    # 53 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker

    “So, what was your point?”

    You think hate justifies hate.

    That is my point.

  25. GregA says:

    #49,

Wow, that was really exciting when it happened, but it looks like it just all the excitement and chaos is caused. Looks like everyones day is ruined here on out…

  26. jescott418 says:

Whatever happened to running on your record?? Unless your record is no good. Then I guess all you have is trashing your opponent. John McCain has done the same. With 26 or so years in office. You would think he would have more to brag up about himself. Sure Obama has less experience. But that seems to be what people want. Most including myself are tired of the old ways. I certainly think Obama could fall on his face and get nothing done in four years. But that’s not much different then what we have now. At least he is going to try to go a different direction. It’s like the fork in the road. One way we know is bad and have gone many miles on. The other is totally new and may be the same. But its the hope that its not that may bring country out of the hell its in.

  27. QB says:

Jager said: “A reality show… and it’s FREE!”

Uh, uh. I just got my RRSP statement. Nothing is free!

  28. Jägermeister says:

    #58 – QB

Entertainment here is for free… 😉

  29. Paddy-O says:

#55 J – “You think hate justifies hate. That is my point.

Since I never said that, you have very interesting delusions.

That is really your point. LOL

  30. Buzz says:

    Dear Religious Person,

Please note that the only person who took the lord’s name in vain was not Elizabeth Dole’s opponent, Kay Hagan.

It was Elizabeth Dole. With malice aforethought.

Elizabeth Dole tried to bear false witness against her neighbor, Kay Hagan, to make you think Kay harbored some antagonism against God.

She did this to steal your vote in a political election.

Frankly, if I were in charge of this Cosmos, I’d be pissed at Elizabeth. Big time. Blasphemy, Lie, Theft. Three Commandments in one commercial. Not a record, but high on the list of overachievers.

Tonight, as you consider a vote between these two, ask yourself which one God would choose. Then ask God for a second opinion.

    Should she exist.
