Proposed USPS Mail Delivery Vehicle

HARVEY, Ill. (CBS) ― Dozens of mailboxes remain empty after the post office suspends service in one south suburban neighborhood. Some people get angry when their mail is late. But in Harvey, people have been waiting for days and days. They’re not getting any mail at all. CBS 2’s Dana Kozlov reports that one mail carrier in Harvey feels threatened.

The U.S. Post Office seems to think that this is one of the most dangerous blocks in the country. People who live on it say they haven’t gotten any mail delivered to their homes in almost two weeks. Venus Jones is one of them. “Between robberies and shootings and delayed police response, several things going on, that would make it unsafe,” said Harvey resident Venus Jones.

One of those shootings on the morning of October 10th reportedly happened yards away from the mail carrier. That’s when the mail stopped on Marshfield between 151st and 152nd streets, but the post office didn’t tell anyone. “Some of the people didn’t even know that it was being held at the post office,” Jones said. Now Jones, who says her own home has been broken into three times in 30 days is talking to her neighbors about the mail problem and what should happen next. Jones says someone from the post office told her they were going to put a cluster box for mail at the corner of 152nd and Marshfield. But she says that’s not a good idea.

“We have a lot of elderly people, a lot of older people that’s working, and for us to have to go to that corner to pick up our mail, that’s unsafe for us,” Jones said.

Who would have thought Mail Carrier was on the list of dangerous occupations?

Ah yes, this brings back memories. We’re a droll lot, and call ourselves Harvey Boys.

  2. Paddy-O says:

#100 bobo “Rich people simply need to realize how luck …”

Belief in “luck” is superstitious. There is no such think as “luck”. Might as well say, evil spirits keep some from succeeding no matter how hard they try and, those that make it don’t have evil spirits hampering them…

You know what he meant you puddknocker!

  4. Paddy-O says:

#104 “You know what he meant”

He meant belief in unseen forces. What do you think he meant?

  5. bobbo says:

#103–Puddknocker==how do you work hard to be born to the right parents?

  6. Paddy-O says:

#106 Please site where in order to be successful you HAVE to be born to “right” parents. Also, that means if you aren’t you can’t be successful?

  7. bobbo says:

My joke reminded me of what I am probably slightly misremembering about that Steve Martin movie that starts with him recounting: “I was born the only white child in a poor black family.” and the black parents kinda roll their eyes at how stupid he is.

Crack Up. Pathetic==like Paddy without the humor.

  8. J says:

    # 105 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker

He meant circumstance you douchknozzle. Many people say luck and don’t believe in the superstitious nonsense. Only a dickweed like yourself would read that far into it.

  9. Paddy-O says:

#108 As I thought. Spewing statements as fact (when they are false) in order to justify gov taking peoples $ to give to lazy people.

    Same old, same old.

  10. Paddy-O says:

    #109 “He meant circumstance”

    What circumstances?

  11. J says:

    # 107 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker

It is definitely an advantage. Would Paris Hilton be as successful as she is without being born into that family? I don’t think so.

Do you like digging Rabbit Holes?

  13. bobbo says:

#107–Paddy==the websites abound but you have already demonstrated ignorance about what positive correlations/objective group statistics are all about.

So, if you don’t already understand that who you are born to is the most powerful influence in your life, nothing in the rest of your life will. I blame your parents for that. Letting you sleep outside with the dog as your best friend was not a good start.

I’ll just give you a clue as to where the statistics go: “If you want to get rich, first you take a million dollars…..” ((Coincidentally, another Steve Martin joke.))

  14. Paddy-O says:

#112 Thank you for the non answer. BTW – She was nothing until the sex video, just a spoiled child..

So, answer the question. Can a person be successful in life without “luck”?

  15. J says:

    # 115 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker

Even if that was the cause for her success. Which it wasn’t. Why would people even be interested in that video if she wasn’t from a wealthy famous family? They wouldn’t!! So, thank you for proving my point.

Oh and I did answer your question. I won’t follow you down these stupid rabbit holes in your quest to find a technicality that you can try to twist to your advantage. Learn to fight like a man!!

  16. bobbo says:

    115–Slam Dunk.

  17. Paddy-O says:

#116 Thank you for refusing to answer the simple question, “Can a person be successful in life without “luck”?”

It is very telling that no liberal I’ve asked has answered that question. Coincidence? I think not.

  18. Paddy-O says:

    #117 bobo, “115–Slam Dunk.”

    Thank you.

  19. bobbo says:

#118–Puddknocker==”It is very telling that no liberal I’ve asked has answered that question. Coincidence? I think not.” /// Coincidence as in luck?==of course not. What do all these interactions have in common?

    – – – -wait for it – – – –

    —yes—-

Everyone you are talking to, IS TALKING TO YOU!!!!!! Get it?? YOU!! Y – 0 – U !!! As in you impress everyone as a waste of time.

  20. J says:

    # 118 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker

Like most rightwing flute pumpers you think the answer is simple. It is a complicated question with an even more complicated answer. It depends on many things like what is the definition of success and what is the measure of “luck” or circumstance.

BUT If it is a simple answer you seek for you digging expedition I shall give you one. But I will not follow down that hole.

Assuming luck equates circumstance and that success is leveled at middle class. A simple answer would be NO!

  21. Paddy-O says:

    #121 J

    Thank you.

You think the average person can’t succeed without luck.

I just wanted to know your opinion.

  22. bobbo says:

J–interesting. I would have said most people are “successful.” Most surveys I have seen report people are “ok” about their current circumstances but do worry about the future?

Sad fact is that most people do not envy those better off. If we did, our politicians would be called to the carpet for the unwarrented wealth transfer to the richest under the continuing failed promise of trickle down economics.

I guess we could discuss and argue all day long until we actually defined our terms?

I can define myself as very successful or a failure almost within most definitions I have seen. Was never “rich” but had everything I wanted beside a gullwing mercedes. Not the smartest person in the world, but smarter than most smarter people I meet as they seem to have short horizons. Successful in appreciating the good things in life I have, try to minimize the bad. Successful in being more educated than most==but it only gets me in trouble.

Success? Money. Experiences. Empathy. Bragging Rights. Travel. Good Friends. Good Wife. Joy in simple things readily available.

All kinds of variables. Some conflicting. Curiously, while money stands alone for some, it does seem to help achieve “most” of the others. Not an absolute requirement, just a grease that makes things easier.

My father used to say money doesn’t make you happy, but it makes the minor irritants go away. I think that when I need to spend $500 on a car repair or what not. Sure is easier to pay it and keep worrying about where the best cup of espresso is.

  23. J says:

    # 122 Paddy Cake the Ignorant Shit Talker

    LOL ROTFL

By inserting the word average into that statement you have redefined the question and proven my point. You already gave them the circumstance/”luck” of being average so they start with an advantage.

LOL you are such a tool!!!!

  24. The Monster's Lawyer says:

Luck is just “Favorable Circumstance”. If a person has them but does not act on them and fails, shame on them. I’ve missed a few myself. Those that capitalize on them usually succeed and turn their backs on those that did not have those circumstances. Then there are those that have the nack of creating their own “luck”, these people invariably succeed and recognize that there are some that do not have “luck” or the ability to create their own luck. They give back because they have been there and realize that by helping others they are helping themselves. Another name for ‘karma’.

  25. J says:

    # 123 bobbo

Just so you know bobbo I wasn’t trying to define success only to make the point that it is a definition that needs to be set to even answer that question.

    BUT

I personally define it this way.

Are you doing your best? Are you happy?

“My father used to say money doesn’t make you happy, but it makes the minor irritants go away. ”

He was right about the first part but not about the second. I think it creates more irritants bot minor and major.

  26. bobbo says:

#125–ML==you say: “Then there are those that have the nack of creating their own “luck”, these people invariably succeed” /// I disagree. “Invariably” is certainly too strong with just a casual rethink?

I think much success however defined actually goes like this: luck, luck, luck, luck, luck, intention/hard work, luck, luck, intention/hard work==and pay off. The success chain can and does get broken at each link by bad luck/circumstance.

Happiness is pretty much coming to terms with whatever you have. Might as well, because thats what you have!!

J–sounds like the irritants you are thinking of would be of one’s own making? Easier to set your own mouse trap than schedule a meeting to discuss it with the head gardener==but nothing prevents you from setting that mousetrap yourself. The gardener must object just to keep your good will. In private, he doesn’t care about your mouse problem, he has his own.

  27. J says:

    # 127 bobbo

No I am talking about things like guilt and family. Guilt and Family are not things under my direct control.

When they know you have money they treat you differently. NOT always better either.

Comments like “You have the money why don’t you do something?” or “Why not? You have plenty of money?” or “You give away money all the time why can’t I have some?” Are those questions a middle class person would be asked?

I know I know you are probably saying “Oh I wish you had those problems” but you don’t realize how much guilt comes with that at least for those of us with a conscience. That guilt “could” make a person very unhappy. That is why I set Are you doing your best? and Are you happy? as being a measure for success.

  28. bobbo says:

#128==J. JJJaaayyy! Why are you so $$ obsessed you made your family come and ask you? (JOKE!!) Actually, back when I was in the chips I did volunteer my money to my Mother and Sisters. I helped them buy their first homes. Mom got upset when I charged her the lowest interest rates then available. When she started whining, I told her to STFU or I would charge back some opening and closing fees. Years later with her grand daughter, Mom charged her interest too. I think she learned the appropriateness of charing interest.

yea, well, “family.” I grew up not liking most of mine. Treat them as the individuals they are, and not like them. They’ll get the message over time.

  29. Paddy-O says:

    #130 Pedro,

    LOL!

  30. Mr. Fusion says:

    Cow-Paddy,

Back in #96 I asked you for the source of your statistics. Since you decline / can’t produce them then we are left to believe they are bogus. So your little bull crap dance about how smart you are has been just that, bull shit.

For good reason I am not surprised. You have just been outed again as lying and trying to lie your way out of it.

The next time you feel the urge to invent something? Don’t.
