Looks like a Hit and Run to me…

  1. ChuckM says:

I hate when people don’t stop when they here the siren. Serves them right!

  2. Peanut Butter and Jam says:

Wow…. they didn’t even slow down!

  3. James Hill says:

I’m assuming this is the crash that happened recently in St. Louis. That’s normally how people drive there.

  4. Improbus says:

One of them ran a red light and thus did not have the right of way. Knowing how governments and unions work no one will be fired. Result? Tax payers are screwed again.

  5. Sean says:

Yeah. Firing would make it better.

  6. dude984 says:

#3 and #4, it depends on the department. With family in the fire service, I know from first hand that people have been fired for less…MUCH less…

  7. Nutz says:

It’s well known in the large goods industry that fire engine drivers are the worst you can get, at least in the UK.

  8. ECA says:

This has happened before, and it is the MAIN REASON you are supposed to SLOW at EVERY STOP SIGN/LIGHT(EVEN GREEN) and LOOK..

Also the reason they USE LIGHT CHANGERS on emergency vehicles..IF IT DONT CHANGE, YOU BETTER STOP.

[Yes, but that makes too much sense, ECA. – ed.]

  9. Buzz says:

    #2, #4, #5, #6, #7:

    1. You can’t hear a distant siren with a siren in your ear.
    2. Fire trucks go THROUGH red lights.
    3. The truck that did the hitting was braking, but lost brake pedal contact at impact (very common).
    4. Fire truck drivers take special training to drive these expensive beasts, and are trained to take every opportunity to speed, cut corners and get to that fire at all costs. Lives are on the line.
    5. Public training of how to respond to fire trucks is sadly lacking, being the number one cause of fire truck mishaps. (present company excepted)
    6. Collisions among emergency vehicles will continue to happen until someone figures out a heads-up display that shows all emergency traffic in the local area (something crims can’t hack).

  10. McCullough says:

I drove a fire truck (we were retiring it and taking it to the dump) through a red lighted busy intersection once. The brakes failed on me, all we could do is turn on all lights and sirens and hope for the best.

I wish they had told me about the brakes.

  11. Mr. Fusion says:

    #9, Buzz,

    2. Fire trucks go THROUGH red lights.

True, however, emergency vehicles must still stop when encountering a red light or a stop sign. Even if an emergency vehicle has all their lights and sirens going is no guarantee that someone with a green light or right of way is aware of the danger. While responding to a fire may mitigate a criminal charge, it doesn’t prevent a civil damages complaint.

In this collision, the oncoming truck is at fault as the light was red.

  12. hhopper says:

I used to drive an emergency vehicle and it was a standing rule that you slow down to a crawl at any red traffic signal. We didn’t have the ability to change to green back then.

  13. The Monster's Lawyer says:

What the hell was the camera doing there?
If it was a traffic camera it would have been over the intersection. What is this camera’s purpose other than showing a planned event?

  14. Paddy-O says:

#13 Damn, you found me out!

  15. KarmaBaby says:

Ya, its the camera’s fault. We wouldn’t be discussing this, otherwise.

  16. Buzz says:

This just in from the McCain campaign: It was Obama’s fault. The little jerk.

Seriously, #11 is right. The truck that went through apparently was pinging his preemtion signal—and so was the other fire truck driver. So it jammed the green for the cross truck.

The truck that got hit took a chance and lost. Probably got into one of those “trying to fix it” thought modes that cause air disasters.

  17. Greg Allen says:

What’s the deal with that guy further away on the left?

After the accident, instead of running to help — or even running way — he seems to just be strolling off?

  18. Wardww says:

What really gets me is how the guy who jumped out of the way goes back to investigate, but the woman? on the other side just does a Johnny Walker. Not even curious. How weird and against human nature.
