A judge has thrown out a Nebraska legislator’s lawsuit against God, saying the Almighty wasn’t properly served due to his unlisted home address.
State Sen. Ernie Chambers filed the lawsuit last year seeking a permanent injunction against God. He said God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents in Omaha, inspired fear and caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.”
Chambers has said he filed the lawsuit to make the point that everyone should have access to the courts regardless of whether they are rich or poor.
On Tuesday, however, Douglas County District Court Judge Marlon Polk ruled that under state law a plaintiff must have access to the defendant for a lawsuit to move forward…
Chambers has 30 days to decide whether to appeal. He said he hasn’t decided yet.

More proof that “God” is a MYTH !!!
Wow. If this guy can make senator, I could be president. I know he filed a claim to simply make a point but the point he made is that he is an idiot. – and this is coming from a registered democrat!

Don’t judge what you don’t know. This guy is easily the most intelligent and skilled lawmaker in our Unicameral.
Whether God existed or not, this was a pointless lawsuit. If God existed, and was declared guilty, who would be capable of bringing Him in?
God doesn’t have a home because it was repossessed due to the credit crunch.
Zardoz!
This suit has much more legal merit than some I’ve seen go through over the years…
Must be some cross actions taking place here.
God answered the complaint and is willing to be judged according to this video report from last year:

Thank you Sen. Chambers for wasting tax dollars on the time for you, your staff, and the court, to deal with a joke.

Any judge that even allowed this past the filing point needs to be removed.
We need meaningful judicial reform.

If I remember correctly, that was exactly the reason why Chambers filed the lawsuit to begin with. He did it as an example of how ridiculous lawsuits have gotten over the years, and yet judges still hear them.
Warms the cockles of my heart to see all these True Believers with a sense of humor.
You may now return to crocheting yellow ribbons.
#12 Yes, if the judge had been competent the filing fee would have been sufficient to cover the taxpayers costs on this one. Since the judge has an IQ of a turnip, taxpayers are on the hook.

First off, Chambers is a lawyer and has filed all documents himself. No taxpayer money wasted. (Indeed, it would be unethical and illegal to use taxpayer money for this.)
Secondly, the people in the judicial system are regularly scheduled employees. They work whether they have a case or not. Little to no taxpayer money wasted.
Finally, do you live in Nebraska? If not, then who cares what you think about how we spend our taxes?
#15 – Angry liberals can’t parse things out like that. They only see what they don’t agree with, and they respond with hate.
Which is interesting, because that’s what they blame religious folks for doing. That saying about seeing our own faults in those we oppose has never been more true.

Err, I can’t tell if you’re agreeing or disagreeing with me, haha.

For what it’s worth, here in Nebraska, the liberals are mostly thinking this is pretty funny (after they’ve read between the lines).
The conservatives, however, are pissed off.

…so apparently most of you missed the fact that this was a firmly cheeky reply to a firmly tongue-in-cheek lawsuit.
Also, to those of you blaming idiot judges for allowing the case to be filed in the first place… uh… judges are far too busy to deal with filing cases. There’s been minimal judicial waste here – filing time would be all of five minutes of a clerk’s time, service of process needs to be one by the parties (not the judicial system – this is a civil suit after all) and then, maybe, twenty minutes for a clerk to write the opinion.
Though honestly if I had been the judge I would have taken the half hour out myself to write the decision.
As far as points go, this was poorly made, as the system actually worked the way its supposed to.
I read a book involving trying God in the Hague.

My life sucks can I sue God too?
