1. Max Bell says:

    So say we all.

More to the point, how many of you voting for McCain can say that you’re voting for anything more than the party?

  2. murph says:

How about 3rd party, or a none of the above. I’m not voting for either of those two tickets.

[Fixed. Forgot to add Other. – ed.]

  3. jim bo says:

    where’s the neither option?

  4. Mister Mustard says:

    #2 – Murph

    >>I’m not voting for either of those two
    >>tickets.

Great. So we get to pick for you. Thanks!

  5. Podgorney says:

I can’t in good conscience vote for either of the unified party candidates.
this is an interesting site though:
    http://votepact.org

  6. The Ox says:

Agree that there needs to be a 3rd party/none of the above option. I’m a lifelong Democrat (save for a vote for Reagan in 1980 when I was 19 years old — I learned my lesson quickly) but I won’t be voting for Obama. If the John McCain of 2008 was the John McCain of eight years ago, I’d surely consider voting for him. But I don’t know this John McCain and I’d no sooner vote for him than I would Obama. So…put me down for none of the above.

  7. Grandpa says:

5 votes all for obama. Maybe the Republican extremists haven’t gotten home from the office yet.

Oh boy, dumbshit pres just seen calming the world. Just what we need is the guy that caused this mess messing it up even worse.

  8. Hershal says:

This continued perpetuation of a false dichotomy is why you are left with such horrible choices.

Why settle for the lesser of evils?
    Cthulhu for president!!!

  9. Steve S says:

I just can’t bring myself to vote for either party. Anyone who “owes” their success at being elected president to contributors who “invested” 100’s of millions of dollars in their campaign can’t serve this country as a free individual.

I’m still looking at the other choices on the ballot…

  10. MrGlass says:

Did something break? 8 comments and yet its only showing me 2 votes.

  11. The Don says:

    What about your oversees readers?

I voted McCain because he is married to a brewery heiress and the poll said 5 total votes, I was the only McCain, then when I visited this thread to post a comment, Obama has 100% of votes?

    Something fishy going on!

  12. McCullough says:

Wow, I love you guys. I can’t see voting for either candidate myself…..

Damn Hop, this doesn’t seem to be going too well.

  13. ECA says:

I dont see the DUCK vote in here…
yes they are independent group, but should be represented..
Daffy, Donald, Howard, ALL need to be represented..
THAT, and NONE OF THE ABOVE.. or a vote of NO CONFIDENCE.

  14. orangedog says:

#4 “Great. So we get to pick for you. Thanks!

Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos!

  15. JustSomeGuy says:

Let me ask this…Do the traditional party standpoints on things such as less government for the republicans and more for the democrats or socialized medicine from the dems vs some other flawed alternative from the reps even hold true anymore? Things like that are what I try to vote on more than anything but I don’t think either of these guys have a good plan for everything.

I’m a lifelong republican based mostly on the historical perspective of republicans wanting less government involvement in our daily lives but it’s starting to look like that isn’t a standard credo for any party anymore. I’ll admit that I voted for him and that Bush is one of the worst presidents in US history and I am concerned that McCain won’t be a whole lot better but I have some serious reservations about voting for Obama. He gives me a creepy oompa loompa vibe, so much so that I have a hard time trusting anything he says (McCain is at least a little more believable for some reason).

So what else should a reasonably intelligent person base their vote on?

  16. The Duke says:

I’m with many of the others here, I will be voting third party and going with Bob Barr.

  17. Erik Blazynski says:

I am not voting for either.

  18. JoaoPT says:

only 5 votes and 12 replies… talk about effective Democracy.

  19. green says:

If voting changed anything, it’d be illegal.

  20. Mister Mustard says:

    #14 – JSG

    >>I have some serious reservations about
    >>voting for Obama. He gives me a creepy oompa
    >>loompa vibe

Ah, you’re just a typical white person!

  21. Dallas says:

I strongly urge undecided Republican voters to exercise your right to not vote. It’s the right thing to do.

  22. liberal news says:

that’s an awesome poll script! i wish i had readers to poll 😐

  23. lakelady says:

a question for those voting for McCain in this poll. Are you really? or did you just want to see the poll go up? If you really are planning on voting for McCain – what are you thinking?!?!?

  24. mthrnite says:

Obama seems like a pretty cool cat. Maybe he won’t screw it up too bad.

  25. bhavekost says:

Bob Barr wasn’t on the list. I’m voting for him.

He’s the only candidate who didn’t vote for a rescue/bailout/handout that’s on the ticket.

  26. Christian BlowHard says:

You guys voting for McCain are just bigots.

  27. @#23: I came to USA from a Socio-Communist disaster. Hence I have seen politicians closely resembling Obama in word and deed. They climbed high in Politbiro. I also have seen people with McCain character. They typically ended in jail or worse under those conditions. Too bad that American people have no experience with these sweet talking liberty stealing goons and line as sheep to Obama’s double talk.

  28. BillM says:

You gotta love it. If you don’t vote for the black guy you must be a bigot!

  29. Paddy-O says:

#28 I thought voting for someone because of skin color was, well, racist.

  30. Todd Henkel says:

For those of you not from Chicago or Illinois, here’s some background…

    * Record murder rate – the [soon to be indicted] Governor offered to send in Reserve troops and equipment to help
    * State pension fund $44 Billion in debt – worst in country
    * Cook County sales tax 10.25% – highest in country
    * Chicago school system – one of the worst in country

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. This is his Senate district. He’s going to ‘fix’ Washington politics? GREAT leadership, hope and change he brought to Chicago…

On the other hand, as much as McSame has said he is not another Bush, he sure has spent the last 8 years being cozy with the guy. And while age discrimination is illegal in the workplace, you do have to worry about him becoming president. Especially with his “maverick” choice in Palin.

At this point, both candidates appear to be saying and “taking firm stands” on anything just to get your vote. Even if it contradicts what they told someone else.

Wait… That’s just the nature of the breed.
