With more than two dozen prominent Republicans publicly backing incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu over her GOP opponent, state Treasurer John Kennedy, the state Republican Party is considering ways to discipline Republican officials who endorse Democrats, the head of the state party said Saturday.
When high-profile elected Republicans endorse Democrats, it “sends the message that we are not united,” state GOP Chairman Roger Villere said. “It confuses the Republican message. . . . We are not looking to punish people, but we don’t want this to develop into a trend.”
Speaking with reporters after the quarterly meeting of the party’s governing body, Villere said several party leaders want to adopt a formal mechanism to censure GOP officials who break with the party’s candidates. He said passing a resolution “without teeth” simply to sanction a Republican who backs a Democrat, as party leaders have in the past, “doesn’t make sense.”
He would not elaborate about possible sanctions.
Whatever might they do to dissidents in the sovereign state of Louisiana?

Yeah, this is the same organization that changed the rules for the Republican Presidential Caucus earlier this year, after the vote had already taken place, so that John McCain would win (in the initial vote, Ron Paul won).
But seriously, there is no good choice for us Louisianans for this Senate race. Either it’s a corrupt Democrat (Mary Landrieu) or a neoconservative Republican (John Kennedy). It’s too bad the Libertarians didn’t put much effort into their Senate candidate’s campaign (Richard Fonteneau), but that’s who I’ll be voting for, even though he won’t win.
Goodness no, we don’t people acting on their conscience. Who knows where that would lead.
Their problem isn’t with the GOP; it’s with John Kennedy, a man who seems to be confused about who he really is. Landrieu is an established LA politician who probably has some ties with many state politicians in each party.

You have two parties in the US (I know that there are other, but come on – you only have two parties), and as soon as a party official steps out of bounds they get punished, oops I mean “disciplined”? Where’s the broad political spectrum? Is it really either Rep/Dem, two extremes in the same quartile of the political spectrum?
