This is the same John McCain who just a couple of days ago was railing on the $1 trillion price tag of the bailout (when it was actually $700 billion).

But just a few days after railing against the unbridled power of government, McCain now seems to envision the presidency as a dictatorship. He now thinks that Bush should just spend $1 trillion without allowing anyone to ask any questions — and he supports doing it just one day after the House of Representatives voted down a $700 billion bailout.

This won’t suprise anyone on the left. The question I have is this: when are conservatives going to wake up and realize that despite all his bluster about being a conservative, the Republican nominee for president has proposed the single largest expenditure in the history of this nation — and that he’s proposed that it be made without the approval of Congress?

I am not an Obama supporter, but does this guy stand for anything, I mean for more than 5 minutes?

  1. Improbus says:

This guy is nothing but a wind sock with neo-con talking points printed on the side with a dry erase marker. You have to be delusional to vote for this clown.

  2. bobbo says:

Nice take on his statement. When I heard it all I thought was how and when does a spending bill have to be approved by Congress (the bailout) and when can the Fed act on its own (the Fannies etd.)

Does this come down to the bailout plan being aimed at the debt swap securities instruments rather than the underlying mortgages and the Feds don’t have some kind of general spending authority for that==only for actual mortgages?

Gut feelings and economics don’t mix any better than taking advice from crooks.

  3. Biggie Smalls says:

I don’t know how 700B became a Trillion, but by the time the dust settles, we are probably looking a 3 Trillion. Hey that’s our money people, it’s not John McCain’s, or the Feds for fucks sake. We NEED to take it back, don’t let this become a back page story. I am proud the way the people have finally stood up against this.

    Spineless assholes.

  4. QB says:

#1 I would strongly disagree. McCain is a knee jerk populist who will towards any group at the drop of a hat. Currently he’s running towards the neoconservative base. Tomorrow, who knows?

Populists follow, so they don’t make good leaders.

  5. lock_down says:

No doubt about it, McCain would be a disaster for us.

I’m not big on Obama either, but there is something really dodgy about McCain.

Can’t put my finger on it though.

  6. jbellies says:

When asked about the $700 billion, officials admitted that it was just an estimate. You know, to get everybody used to the idea that a really substantial amount of money was involved. I read that here, on this cranky blog.

  7. Paddy-O says:

Remember, Obama has urged the Congress NOT to pass the bailout.

  8. Breetai says:

Cripes, What sucks the most is the alternative is no better. Obama’s supporters are just as blind and stupid as the NeoCons support this numb nutts.

  9. Flip Wilson says:

John McCain is an old fart that loves to say whatever comes to his mind.

He’s like your buddy’s grandfather that’s now living with him. Every time grandpa passes gas or tells the same lame joke all you can do is roll your eyes and think how sad the situations is.

I for one say please, for God sakes put McCain and Palin out to pasture.

  10. caranpaima says:

McSame or McWorst admits he wants to be a dictator… now on youtube

  11. DWY says:

The problem with MCCain and questions/discussions like this is that they are entirely avoided my MSM and thus the masses that would vote one way or the other never hears about them; thus allowing the candidates to perpetuate kissing babies on one side and stealing their lollipops on the other.

  12. James Hill says:

Angry liberals continue to fail to make hay out of this situation. You’ve failed at life, and in this thread.

  13. BigCarbonFoot says:

#12 – if this were truly damaging to McCain, the MSM would have it running on every channel twice an hour. The MSM is so blatantly in the tank for Obama it’s beyond description.

    #7 – He DID?!? I hope you’re not driving in that condition…

  14. Ranger007 says:

    #7 Paddy-O said

“Remember, Obama has urged the Congress NOT to pass the bailout.”

Do you mean he’s against the bailout, but for the “investment”?

I’m not crazy about McCain either, but frankly I’ve got no pride left anyway, I voted for Kerry 4 years ago. Had to close my eyes and hold my nose, and I’m still not very proud of the vote. But couldn’t see keeping “W” either.

Both parties are losers. No I’m wrong, we are the losers because this seems to be the best we have.

No bailout – I don’t care what they call it!

  15. Paddy-O says:

#15 “Do you mean he’s against the bailout, but for the “investment”?”

Sarcasm. Obama & McCain are both pushing for it to pass.

  16. #14 – Tetrahedron

    >>The MSM is so blatantly in the tank for
    >>Obama it’s beyond description.

Actually, the MSM (to the extent that they lean) lean towards the right.

They gave Dumbya a pass on Iraq and every other one of his bungles, now they’re giving McBush and Palin a pass on their inadequacy as leaders of America.

You gotta quit listening to Anal Cyst Limbaugh and Loofah Pad O’Reilly, with their nonsensical gibbering about the “left-wing drive-by media”.

    There is no such thing.

  17. Paddy-O says:

#17 “You gotta quit listening to Anal Cyst Limbaugh and Loofah Pad O’Reilly, with their nonsensical gibbering about the “left-wing drive-by media”.”

That’s right. Start listening to the media that sent hundreds of reporters to Alaska to dig up dirt on Palin, the same outlets that sent hundreds of reporters to dig up dirt on Obama in Hawaii & South Chicago…

Oops, except they never sent hundreds to Chi & Hawaii…

    Hmmm.

  18. Mr. Fusion says:

but does this guy stand for anything, I mean for more than 5 minutes?

With those Depends with Oder Control he can stand and pee all day. Crap too. And you have to be pretty close to know what he did.

And you wonder why he has that evil grin.

  19. #18 – O’Furniture

    >>Start listening to the media that sent hundreds
    >>of reporters to Alaska to dig up dirt on Palin

    “hundreds of reporters”??

I’m going to have to start calling you Paddy O’Pinocchio.

Your nose is getting longer and longer…

  20. The Monster's Lawyer says:

I heard McCain’s dropping Palin for that “Mad Cow Lady” from another post. What a maverick!

  21. Mr. Fusion says:

    #7, Cow-Paddy,

Remember, Obama has urged the Congress NOT to pass the bailout.

Remember, YOU are an idiot. Obama has not encouraged anything of the kind.

Remember, a few days ago you wrote that it was unconstitutional for Congress to cap CEOs salaries. I asked you where in the Constitution it said that. You still haven’t shown me where.

You might not be the biggest bullshitter that regularily posts at DU. I don’t know who is. Somehow that dishonor resides with you, Lyin’ Mike, Calin, gq, or RBG. The most amazing thing is how you all take such pride in spewing your bullshit.

  22. #7 – O’Pinocchio

    >>Remember, Obama has urged the Congress NOT to
    >>pass the bailout.

Jeez. Do you break out in a rash anytime you tell the truth? Is that why you go to such great lengths to avoid it??

    From today’s NYT:

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Senator Barack Obama intensified his efforts to rally support for the $700 billion financial bailout package on Wednesday, selling the idea to skeptical voters – and members of Congress – as a plan to “safeguard the American economy.”

“This plan is not perfect. Democrats and Republicans in Congress have legitimate concerns about it,” Mr. Obama said. “I know many Americans share those concerns, but it is clear that this is what we must do right now to prevent a crisis from turning into a catastrophe.”

  23. Brian says:

He’ll stand for whatever he thinks will get him elected…its a tragedy, really, as he truly is an American hero, a tragedy to see him sell his soul like this.

  24. Paddy-O says:

#23 “Jeez. Do you break out in a rash anytime you tell the truth? Is that why you go to such great lengths to avoid it??”

Ummm, did you read post #16?

  25. Paddy-O says:

#22 “Remember, YOU are an idiot. Obama has not encouraged anything of the kind.”

You also are apparently, devoid of intelligence. Post # 16

  26. Paddy-O says:

#20 “I’m going to have to start calling you Paddy O’Pinocchio.”

I went through google news since Palin was announced and the number of stories filed from there about her from news orgs ouside of AK. I stopped counting at 176…

I guess you failed to notice that they were all based on the same AP article written by one guy, hm?

No matter how left-leaning and communistic you imagine the US media to be, surely not even YOU could think that newspapers are going to send HUNDREDS of reporters to E. Bumf&ck to tilt at some Palinesque windmill.

Not even Anal Cyst Limbaugh to try and float a cock-and-bull story like that.

  28. Paddy-O says:

#28 “I guess you failed to notice that they were all based on the same AP article written by one guy, hm?”

Sorry, different outlets & reporters. Some people have access to to news service DBs that sort this all out. I doubt you even knew this type of program existed…

    Mustard for lose again!

  29. iamanasshole says:

I initially supported McCain, but have been convinced he’s not fit to server and of course Palin is a blithering idiot.

But hypocrit Obama is not at all qualified either.

So, who do I write in that has a snowball’s chance in hell of being elected?

Costa Rica is looking better and better.

  30. #29 – O’Pinocchio

    >>Some people have access to to news service

Yeah, like news dot google dot com, which YOU said YOU used. HAW HAW HAW!!!
