A spokeswoman for screen legend Paul Newman says the actor has died at age 83.
Spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic says Newman died Friday of cancer. No other details were immediately available.
Newman was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times, winning a regular Oscar in 1987 for “The Color of Money” and two honorary ones. He was equally at home in comedies such as “The Sting” and dramas such as “Hud.”
He sometimes teamed with his wife, Joanne Woodward, also an Oscar winner for the 1957 film “Three Faces of Eve.”

anyone who wants to see an american actor at the top of his craft, rent The Hustler.
then laugh your ass off by renting Slap Shot.
they dont make movies, or movie actors, like that anymore.
Sad to here it,he was a golden star.one of hollywoods best and e decent person-all American as the come.thanks for the memories.
Few people contribute as much to their crafts and communities as he did. Thanks Paul.
Newman was not only a great actor, but he enjoyed his craft.
I’m saddened to hear this. One of my favorites. His performance in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid will always stay with me.
R.I.P.

Finally, something we can agree on.
“Nobody can eat fifty eggs.”
RIP. Great actor, great man.
On the related subject, is it just me or this year has seen a disproportionate number of deaths?
In recent years he’s been involved in owning race cars (in leagues focused on racing, so other than IndyCar and NASCAR). Pretty big loss for that sport… beyond the obvious.
#9: I think it’s more that all the good actors are dying off and there’s no one today in Hollywood that can replace them.
RIP, Mr. Newman. Thank you for your body of work, your contributions to the arts of theater and cinema, and your generosity to thousands of sick children. I sure hope St. Peter waved a checkered flag as you passed the pearly gates.
Sad news. He was a great actor who made great movies.

How dare you come on an pretend to morn his death when every day you come on here and speak out against everything he stood for.
He was a great man who cared more for his fellow man than himself.
He gave and gave with no expectation of a thanks or recognition. This is a very sad day.
I love Cool Hand Luke. This is sad.
Personal favorite Newman movies include Cool Hand Luke, The Hustler, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Winning, Sometimes a Great Notion, and The Sting, but there are many more that are really good.
Besides his acting and involvement in auto racing over the years, Paul also created and manufactured first rate salad dressings, spaghetti sauce, and other tasty foods. Profits went to various charities.
One of the greatest humans. We have a photo of Paul and my wife posing next to one of his race cars from back in the 80’s. We will miss him dearly.
#13 babbled, “How dare you come on …”
I can admire an artist’s work and yet disagree with opinions outside of the artistic realm. I really didn’t follow his politics so I don’t know what you are talking about.
As far how I dare. Let’s you & I meet in person and I’ll explain.
Deal?
They filmed the scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid where he and Redford jumped off the cliff a few miles from my home, the train explosion also. I think about it every time I drive by. He was one of the best.
A big loss – we could go on for a long time discussing his movies that were nothing less than
great.
And a great guy – never met (or even came close to meeting) him, but would have considered it an honor.
Other stars are cool because society says they are. Paul Newman WAS cool because he was the definition of cool. Note Websters please place photo of Paul Newman in new additions.

Name the time and place tough guy!
I had the pleasure to be the maitre’d one night when he and his wife Joanne came in for dinner. Right away there were 2 reporters outside so I went and asked if they would like to go out the back door. They said yes and on the way out we talked for 5 minutes or so and he said “I’d love to kick those reporters right in the ***”. He said it with a smile, though, so I didn’t really believe him. They were so nice and polite that it made meeting them even more enjoyable.
I never ask for autographs but I really like shaking hands with people because you can never lose a handshake.
#21–J==Why not use Paddy’s admiration of Newmans work as a potential opening to bring up his empathy level? Instead, you slam the door shut acting more like Paddy than Paul.
You can do better.

Because everyday he comes on here and mocks everything Mr. Newman stood for. I think that is disgusting and slimy. It is as good a pissing on his grave.
#24–J==well, basically I agree with you and I even agree with the connection you have made regarding Paddy’s limited view of Newman. Understanding Newman as the full human being he was, not just an artist, would naturally lead Republicans to recognize the fuller humanity in us all. Something they are loath to do.
Still, I think you sully Paul Newman by linking him at all with Paddy. Thankfully, in fact, nothing here on this blog we do can actually link Newman with the likes of Paddy, and thats a good thing.
So, ok, you’ve convinced me. Paddy is even more slimy than I thought.
Paddy–so not only should you actually post the source of your BS or not post at all ((given the immediate assumption is you pulled your facts out of your ass)) you should recognize the humanity of these people that otherwise you supposedly “respect” because in actual fact, you don’t.

He was a wonderful man. He was gracious, kind and giving. Most of his life he spent helping others because he thought you can only have so much stuff so why not give the rest away.
A seemingly decent chap. A perfect man — hardly; but I can’t think that any of us would have done better.
I think it is funny that ,regardless of the topic, the discussions always seem to devolve into political masturbatory sessions.
“follow the shoe”
“follow the gourd”
Even DeNiro and Pacino have made some bad movies. I can’t even think of a bad Newman movie.
#21 “Name the time and place tough guy!”
Okay.

See ya there. 😉
#18 “I think about it every time I drive by. He was one of the best.”
I still have the original LP of the sound track from the movie.
Out of curiosity, what state?
#30. Southwest Colorado.
