  1. jporter182 says:

hhopper could you stop being such a liberal? What else are you going to do with a bunch of money? Give it away? I don’t think so.

  2. Mr. Fusion says:

And the point is … ?

    That McCain is elitist.

Of course, they could have counted the number of black babies each has fathered, but I think McCain holds a lead there too.

Or the number of corrupt “advisors” on his campaign staff. Or the number of former Bush staff not working for McCain.

Or the number of lobbyists working for McCain.

Or how many “Depends” each candidates uses each month.

  3. BigBoyBC says:

What a bunch of crapola. If Michelle Obama was as loaded as Cindy McCain, they’d have more stuff. If I had half of what the Obama’s have, I’d have more stuff too.

    More distractions from real issues…

  4. hhopper says:

I just thought it was an interesting comparison.

I wonder how many Americans own 10 cars?

  5. Mr. Fusion says:

    #3, BigBoy,

And if Obama only had half his current brain he would still have more than McCain and Palin combined.

  6. Aranince says:

What kind of source is Daily Kos?

  7. George says:

Just shows that Obama doesn’t have much on the ball. Just 1 car and 1 house, and that house was obtained through a sweetheart deal with a crook.

  8. Whatever says:

It’s not “bad” being rich. But the point is McCain’s camp called Obama the elitist, just like they did with John Edwards when they found he had a $400 haircut!

The haircut showed how out of touch Edwards was to our “common values”. But not McCain’s $500 shoes AND 8 houses, fleet of cars, private jet…plus today, $5,500 spent hiring the makeup artists from American Idol. LOL

    http://www.usmagazine.com/news/john-mccain-uses-american-idol-makeup-artist

  9. Steven Long says:

When it is Edwards it was wasteful, when it is McCain it is just stimulating the economy and a show of his success.

Not much an issue really, but I suppose it is interesting.

  10. Glenn E. says:

Ah, it just goes to show that there is some misinformation about McCain. I had heard that all of his 13 cars were foreign. Three aren’t even cars. What are they, golf carts? And only for of the remaining ten, are foreign makes. I can understand him having a few homes in AZ, and even one outside of DC. But what’s with the three in CA? He’s not a Senator of CA! Perhaps these are Cindy’s. Or J.M. needs local digs, after a hard day of kissing up to CA’s aerospace industry. He’s not a fan of the film industry, so what else could he be there for?

  11. Matt Garrett says:

The question that comes to my mind is …. SO?!

  12. Brian says:

    11-

The ‘so’ comes from McCain being out of touch with the reality that a majority of Americans and the economic problems we face. It might be the reason that McCain thinks the economy is fine and that economic indicators he somehow sees point towards the positive.

While it might seem trivial to the uniformed, it speaks volumes about the candidates and their place in the economic reality a vast majority of Americans are in.

  13. MikeN says:

    McCain 2 years ago:

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

But of course he has no clue about the economy.

  14. MikeN says:

Why isn’t Obama driving a more fuel efficient car like what he wants to force everyone else to drive?

  15. Someone says:

I’d rather see a graph of $1,000,000s taken from GSEs. That would cast more light on who is part of the problem and who is part of the solution.

You know, when Jesus was standing trial before “Governor” Pontius Pilot, Pilot offered to free him, or one Barabbas. The crowd could choose. Certain “Community Organizers” goaded the mob to shout for Barabbas so that Jesus would die. Presumably, it was the Devil’s work.

(One specious remark deserves another, no?)

  16. Moose says:

    It’s a HYBRID, Mike.

  17. Buzz says:

    Heroic elitist prick.

  18. tomdennis says:

Most United States citizens have two vehicles because we need to move about freely when one of us is at work. It use to be horses but now it is automobiles.
I remember growing up and hearing the word Conservative and I assumed it was our local banker that pinch pennies, lived in a moderate home and did things right.
Now it means something entirely different.
Today I am very liberal in thought but I am now the Conservative.

  19. Winston Smith says:

#14 “you think is a good idea to elect a guy with only one house and one car over the one that had enough brains and money smarts to have all those houses, cars, planes, etc?”

McCain’s only “brains and money smarts” was to cheat on his first wife and marry a multi-millionaire heiress.

If he could hook up with a richer woman he would probably dump Cindy as well.

  20. whiskeytangofoxtrot says:

Wait, wait, wait. I know it’s fun and easy to claim that “He is out of touch with reality and has too much money.” But, I just wanted to see if anyone could clarify this for me.

hhopper, while it is a comparison of what they “own” I have a few issues with that image. I don’t necessarily think it is fair to call them out simply because of what they own. First off Barack is 47 while McCain is 72 thus McCain has had many years to accrue more money than Barack from an income standpoint. The jet doesn’t really mean anything considering it is registered to the business and if you want to compare those two wouldn’t you include the chartered Boeing 757 that Barack Obama spent $500,000 dollars to overhaul?

Just think of it this way the guy is old, he has had plenty of time to get income streams that funds his purchasing of cars. Besides the selections that he has seem pretty benign I don’t see a vehicle one that looks to be an astoundingly wasteful or opulent car. If he had purchased 13 Lamborghini’s or Ferrari’s or a Aston Martin Lagonda then sure I would say that is a bit out of touch. Barack Obama will catch up to him in due time since according to their ’06 Tax return they had a combined income of $991,296 and his popularity isn’t really waning so the royalties would keep coming in.

I don’t spite either of them for having a whole bunch of money, because that just proves that they were successful, good for them and for those who whine about them being rich. Who cares? Go make more money than them and buy 14 cars and 2 Cessna Citations just to one up McCain.

This election B.S. has become ridiculous, but I did just wonder about that stuff. I don’t come from either side of the fence so I’m not going to rant to you hhopper about your political affiliation I just wondered about that stuff I mentioned above. If any of it is inaccurate let me know so I can be better informed. That’s what news stories are for right?

  21. #18 – Moose

    >>It’s a HYBRID, Mike.

That’s not good enough for Lyin’ Mike. He wants Obama to drive a Flintstone’s-type car, with a hole in the floorboard to put your feet through and pedal.

I see one of McBush’s cars is a Ford pickup truck. WTF? Why does a senator and presidental candidate need a pickup truck for?

Or should we expect a continuation of Dumbya’s marathon brush-clearing vacations?

  22. whiskeytangofoxtrot says:

#23 Perhaps you are misinformed Mister Mustard. Allow me to enlighten you.

It is my speculation that many political figures need larger vehicles such as a truck to haul lobbying funds, political B.S. and the pamphlets of political dribble. Some have even larger trucks to traffic the baby seals they club for fun.

I have it on good authority that baby seal clubbing has supplanted golf on the hill by a margin of 10 to 1.

Hopefully that clears it up for you.

  23. bobbo says:

#22–wtf==you ask for several things to be cleared up, but then give the detail you request. Rhetorical?

I don’t believe Obama has only one car. Maybe one car “owned” and another 10 leased, owned and driven by the campaign, etc.

McCain is out of touch not because he has X cars and Y houses but rather because he does not know what X and Y are, or how much money it takes to be rich, or how to use the internet, or whether or not the economy is basically sound.

  24. Springheel Jack says:

Why shouldn’t Obama drive a hybrid car? He’s a hybrid human.

  25. BigCarbonFoot says:

#26 – Leave out the human part. Now we can see why his wife, Aunt Esther is so angry. All these years of dirty politics, underhanded dealings and voting present, and they still have to share one car and one house? WTF?

Jay Leno has more cars than McCain, so he must be really evil.

  26. The Warden says:

The one thing that muslim faithful BaCrack has that McMoron doesn’t have is a racist ex Pastor and homeland Terrorist as friends.

  27. Paddy-O says:

I remember when John adamantly said that DU was NOT a liberal blog. Now it is leeching from DailyKooks. LOL!

[If you read the fine print at the bottom of the photo, you will see that the chart is originally from the New York Times and Newsweek. I was unable to find where it was used except on Kos, so I linked to it there. – ed.]

  28. ArianeB says:

So the biggest news story in the election is John McCain “suspending” his campaign over the banking “crisis” and declining to show up to Fridays debate, and this blog chooses instead to feature this OLD news?

This latest move by McCain is so hypocritical and a blatant stall tactic, it is definitely going to kill any chance he has left of winning.

    This is STRIKE THREE!

Strike one was picking Sarah Palin, who helped the McCain campaign for about a week, but her lack of “experience” and preparation is obviously a negative. Approval ratings of Palin has dropped 11 points in the last week, and the press is now rightfully demanding that she come out of hiding and do interviews and press conferences. The fact that Palin can’t step in to meet McCain’s campaign obligations while he rushes back to the senate is extremely revealing.

Strike two was “The fundamentals of the economy are strong” line. It echoed President Hoover after the 1929 crash, and set off a 20 point drop among independent voters.

This is strike three, and while it might be seen by some as a bold move, in the eyes of most Americans it is “cut and run”. Obama is right, a President must be able to delegate and handle multiple things at the same time. There is no need for either McCain or Obama to be in the Senate for the negotiations, and it would be better for America if they debated the economy in front of the nation.

This is the kind of un-Presidential move that cost George McGovern the election in 1972. Watch Obama win in a landslide in six weeks!

  29. JimD says:

    # 1 jporter182 – “Giving it away” is what Bill Gates is doing, and what Andrew Carnegie, and other “ROBBER BARRONS” have done !!! Trying to buy forgiveness in this life and the next ??? So not all RICH PEOPLE ARE AS SELFISH AS THE McCains seem to be !!!

  30. JimD says:

P.S. To the above about “Giving it away”:

Here is an example of McCain’s “Charitable Giving”
