The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.

This new mission marks the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002 to provide command and control for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of civil authorities.

You’ll love the quote from the brigade commander:

“It makes me feel good as an American to know that my country has dedicated a force to come in and help the people at home.”

Thanks, Marc

    Consider the source folks.

Democracy Now is a reliable source. Really?

And to Alex Jones…go sell crazy somewhere else, we’re all stocked up here at dvorak.org/blog.

    HAR!

I guess if McCain doesn’t win, these troops can be called in to make it right. Seems suspiciously timed with all that’s happening with the financial meltdown looming. Is this Bush’s subtle way of saying, “Give me the $700 Billion or I’ll shot your dog!”?

The race riots could happen if Obama is assassinated or his plane gets “Wellstone’d” before the election. I am very afraid for his safety.

Maybe suspending the debate is a dry-run to gauge public opinion before suspending the election – after all it’s an economic 9-11!

On the other hand, a brigade isn’t large enough to handle more than a couple major cities. That’s what Blackwater is for!

  4. Freyar says:

Jesus, this scares the absolute hell out of me. The military acting as an on-call police force? I’m sorry, this is to the point where I’m even feeling ill about it.

  5. Micromike says:

Your fear of race riots will provide all the excuse they need to institute Martial Law. But the real riots will happen when they declare martial Law and the good old boys realize the unthinkable has actually happened. Bush has been greasing the skids to Martial Law for months and has passed legislation making it easy for him to do without Congress’ help.

I have wondered for 2 years if we will actually have an election and if Bush will really leave the White House. Yeah I know I’m paranoid but I also know he is a demented moron who started a war over a lie and has been the worst president ever. He has done many things that defy logic and law and he hates the Constitution.

Whether he declares Martial Law or not he has ruined our nation and our economy won’t recover for fifty years.

  7. Stars & Bars says:

#13 Mr. Fusion – The incidences you mention were reactive. This is a proactive measure taken by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to enact a police state. McCain will be elected by the narrowest of margins. We will see large scale riots. The economy will tank. We will see large scale riots. Bush will declare Marshall Law. The Police have already been FEDERALIZED. The will make the public want an end to liberty. Papers, show me your papers.

  8. Geoffrey says:

    1. Google your 3 federal Congressmen and write them to have them explain back what their federal government are planning on doing by pointing dangerous Army rifles and equipment at Americans in your state starting October 1.

    2. Google your State Governor who is Commander in Chief of the National Guard in your state, and write him to have him explain who will be in charge of all the military forces deployed on the soil in his state starting October 1, the State Commander in Chief or the Federal Commander in Chief.

Or will they have to just fight it out to see who is stronger in event of a disagreement?

    >>McCain will be elected by the narrowest
    >>of margins.

Not if he keeps “suspending” his campaign.
It’s painfully obvious that he has done that
to 1) Get his face in some photo ops as he mucks about with the $700,000,000,000.00 bailout package and 2) AVOID DEBATING OBAMA TOMORROW.

    HAW!!
