  4. Ron Larson says:

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine who lives in Houston, inside the loop. She said it was bad, and still is. She said they are out of food, water, and fuel. And it is raining and starting to flood.

Her house survived so far, but she is now worried that the extra rain is going to flood the area.

Just want to let you guys know that i am from the Beaumont area, and are going back tomorrow. I will be posting photos of our local damages on NerdNews.tv when I get the opportunity.

If we put aside the human tragedies of this event… This is good for the GDP.

#6 Ja:ger are you saying the sushi market is going to blow open wide?

  8. Don says:

Gee, here’s a good idea. Lets spend billions of dollars putting those stuctures right back on the beach so they can be destroyed by the next hurricane to blow through town.

I had heard about the “Galveston Seawall” before, but had never seen it. I Googled some pictures of it, and was less than impressed. But I guess it helped as the only buildings that seemed to be leveled by the storm surge behind the seawall were the piers out in front of it.

Good luck to everyone down there trying to deal with the mess.

Climate scientists predict an average of eight hurricanes a year in the gulf in twenty years time, if their models are correct, due to global warming. They didn’t say whether this was spread out, or over one weekend.

  10. Lou says:

Why would anyone would rebuild on the gulf ?
I think I’d be rolling inland a few miles. Like 200 miles.

  11. B. Dog says:

Thanks for the Houston Chronicle pictures, they are exceptionally good. I sent the link from khou to an old friend that moved down to Houston with me for a couple years. We are both monitoring the situation there and I’ll talk about it over lunch with her today. We enjoyed our stay in that city very much, and met many fine folks there, whom I assume are doing well. Houston already has about 1/4 of the electrical power back, the roads and water seem to be on track back to normal. The various people and officials working there seem very dedicated and competent.
