There are numerous articles out there like this one from the New York Times or this one from FactCheck.org about how the latest ads from McCain lack ‘truthiness.’

These are the tactics of someone backed into a corner who feels hopeless. Do the Republicans feel they’re losing and can’t win on the issues so they have to resort to mischaracterization and lying? With the Internet they can be countered in moments, so why try? Do they think the American public is that stupid and ignorant? Ignoring what Obama (who I’m not claiming is squeaky clean here) may do or say, do we really want a President who has to tell bald faced lies to win?

UPDATE: Watch McCain respond to the women on The View as they ask him why he’s lying.

If your taxes went up under Clinton, then you must be very well off. Mine went down. Just as he promised. If you are making more than $250,000 a year your taxes will go up under the Obama plan. Otherwise they will go down. However, if like me, you currently have a payroll deduction for health insurance, your taxes will GO UP under the McCain plan.
Democrats keep taxes low for 95% of the people, but the other 5% have more political power, so the lies get repeated.

  6. Michael says:

Mister Mustard, “Wow. Lying Michael, are you really that stupid?? Obama’s plan to “teach sex ed to kindergarteners” was just to inform them about the difference between “appropriate” and “inappropriate” touching.”

    From the full-text of SB99 (lines 13-17, page 1):

“Each class or course in comprehensive sex
education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV.”

    Read.

  7. jbenson2 says:

So Team Barry is resorting to a “Liar Liar Pants on Fire” response

After Obumble’s “lipstick / pig” comment and just his latests pratfall, he declared “Enough!” which translated means “I can’t handle this anymore!”

When, in the past eight years, has President Bush ever said to his critics, “Enough”?

Candidates who want to be president shouldn’t whine and tell their critics to shut up. If you want to run the Republic, you have to take the heat that goes with the kitchen.

  8. OvenMaster says:

Q: “Why Do McCain & The Republicans Feel It’s Necessary To Lie?”

“Each class or course in comprehensive sex

    Read.

Read yourself. I see nothing wrong with teaching 12th graders how not to get HIV. There’s nothing in the wording of the bill that mandates sexually explicit, detailed information on intercourse, oral and/or anal sex, etc.

And what’s so bad about teaching children how not to get AIDS? Even in kindergarten? They’re taught what to do in the event of a fire, they’re taught to dial 911, etc. The instruction needn’t be pornographic, could be at the level of “never let an oder person put his pee-pee in your wee-wee”.

Jeez. You Republicans are so uptight about sex. No wonder there are so many of ya in the MSP airport boys’ room doing the Wide-Stance Polka.

  10. Dallas says:

Obama’s problem is he wants to talk about the issues, change and his qualifications. The GOP is working hard, quite successfully, to deflect the attention to gender bickering and rhetoric.

In 2004 the attention was towards fear. This year, it’s towards gender bias.

Why does the GOP do this? Because it levels the playing field. The best thing to do when one is behind or short on the issues, is to start a proverbial food fight.

  11. Michael says:

    Mister Mustard,

How many times do I have to say, I’m not Republican, I’m not Democrat.

Tell me though, how do you prevent against HIV? By washing your hands? No. By not kissing? No. It’s about unprotected sex, IV needle use, and other risky behavior. Is that something a 6 year old needs to hear about?

#42 “And what’s so bad about teaching children how not to get AIDS? Even in kindergarten? They’re taught what to do in the event of a fire, they’re taught to dial 911, etc.”

So you want to teach 5 year old how to use condoms and that unprotected anal sex is very dangerous?

  13. Ron Larson says:

I don’t think they are desperate. Running a dirty campaign is business as usual. And unfortunately, it works.

My friends mom has decided to vote McCain because, and these are her words, “Obama and Michelle don’t love their country.” We suspect she read one of those inflammatory emails that are part of the dirty campaign. Someone convinced her that Obama hates America.

We think that deep inside she is racist and can reconcile her decision with this excuse. It gives her an out.

Rove knows people like her well (white, middle class 70 year old). And they know what lies to give them to allow them to opt out of the right decision. Unfortunately there is no cure for stupidity.

  22. Mr. Fusion says:

    #28, Matt,

FACT is, Obama said teaching kindergardeners sex ed was fine as long as it was “age appropriate.”

He did? Let see what your link said about that.

When Obama’s campaign was asked by ABC News to explain what kind of sex education Obama considers “age appropriate” for kindergarteners, the Obama campaign pointed to an Oct. 6, 2004 story from the Daily Herald in which Obama had “moved to clarify” in his Senate campaign that he “does not support teaching explicit sex education to children in kindergarten. . . The legislation in question was a state Senate measure last year that aimed to update Illinois’ sex education standards with ‘medically accurate’ information . . . ‘Nobody’s suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it,’ Obama said. ‘If they ask a teacher ‘where do babies come from,’ that providing information that the fact is that it’s not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing. Although again, that’s going to be determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards.'”

In addition to local schools informing kindergarteners that babies do not come from the stork, the state legislation Obama supported in Illinois, which contained an “opt out” provision for parents, also envisioned teaching kindergarteners about “inappropriate touching,” according to Obama’s presidential campaign. Despite Obama’s support, the legislation was not enacted.

I notice you avoided the question by going back to something it isn’t. Typical lying conservative. I surely hope you don’t really thing AIDs is only passed by unprotected anal sex because you ignorance is truly dangerous.

    b. Belonging to a conservative party, group, or movement.
    5. Conservative Of or belonging to the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom or the Progressive Conservative Party in Canada.

    2. A supporter of political conservatism.

But then most conservatives have family values (such as Larry Craig, Mark Foley), don’t steal (remember Duke Cunningham, Michael Abramhoff), and don’t use a credit card to pay for crap we can’t afford (Iraq reconstruction, F-35 over-billing).
