Ok, so the producers of these commercials have clearly decided that these things are going to be a pure viral marketing campaign hoping blogs like this will run them for free as I am doing here. So instead of paying for advertising the cheap bastards are expecting free advertising. This will work for maybe a few episodes of this crap, but not much more than that. The campaign will thus be a success but will it actually sell any product? Does it even sell Microsoft as a brand? I’m not seeing it.

“These ads are simply to bring attention to the MS brand. The sooner you apple clowns get that through your small, one mouse-button-capable brains, the better off you’re gonna be. Don’t have a stroke over it!”

Cunningly insightful. Out of curiosity, what demographic do you think it’ll appeal to? I showed it to a bunch of university students yesterday – you’ll never guess what their reaction was?

  2. Montanaguy says:

2 rich guys having fun at the expense of our time.

  3. Funny, but pointless. I’m not sure what they are selling.

  4. JoaoPT says:

    They’re selling a brand.

  5. QB says:

#96 I agree, the question is “are they doing it well?”

They should spend some time listening to the Age of Persuasion.

  6. Mr. Fusion says:

    #80, Mustard,

John McCain and most Republicans can !!! They can do anything !!!

  7. Dark Phoenix says:

Eh, I’m not impressed with these. Maybe they’re leading up to something.

Am I the only one who was hoping for something like the American Express commercials with Jerry and Superman? Now THOSE were hilarious.

  8. Mr. Fusion says:

This is not an advertisement. Advertising is designed to sell a product. Period. In my humble opinion (IMHO for the illiterate), this is just Bill Gates foray into acting.

  9. Pimmsley says:

I actually liked this one… watch the full length hi-res on youtube.
‘okay, power up, let’s go’ LMAO

  10. hhopper says:

Whatever they’re trying to do, it’s working. Look how many comments this silly video got.

    Now… turn that into profit… 😉

  12. Ah_Yea says:

These commercials are solely trying to get the public to think of Bill Gates as a human being and not an evil cyborg.

Matching Gates with the every-man Seinfeld is an attempt to get “Seinfeldness” to rub off on Gates.

Microsoft has realized that their products are not selling as well as they think they should and piracy is rampant because of the public perception of Gates as evil personified.

And they are trying to fix that.

    Good luck.

#104 – Ah_Yea – …get the public to think of Bill Gates as a human being and not an evil cyborg.

    😉

  14. In short: I liked it. A lot actually. True, they are not selling a product as such. But to be honest, what should they sell that is new? The umpteenth version of Office or Windows? Everybody knows what it is and nobody really cares, to be honest. Fire against Apple? That would just look like a sore looser. Do traditional commercials? Cause that has worked so well in the past?
Honestly, I like this whole thing they are doing. Why not focus on Gates? Apple focuses on Jobs. The whole damn US focuses their future and two(resp. four) persons. Things are personalised these days, whether we like it or not. The average person does not care to hear about product details any more. Also, there is a shitload of people talking about the commercials. Mission accomplished.
