  1. freespirit says:

    Very powerful……..
    Lest we forget

  2. Awake says:

And 7 years later, we continue to follow the path into the darkness that we were lead into as an ‘answer’ to the atrocity that was 9/11

Cringley on PBS wrote a very prescient article a week after the 9/11 attack:

” ‘To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail,’ wrote Mark Twain. In the current context this means that the organizations charged with reacting to this catastrophe will do so by doing what they have always done, only more of it. Congress, which controls the budget and passes laws, will want to pass laws and to allocate more money, lots of money, forgetting completely about any campaign promises. The military, which is the nation’s enforcer, will want to use force, if only they can find a foe. The intelligence community, which gathers information, will want to be even more energetic in that gathering, no matter what the cost to the privacy of the millions of us who aren’t thinking of terrorist acts. And agencies like the Federal Aviation Administration, which regulate, will want to create more stringent regulations. Now here is an important point to be remembered: All these parties will want to do these things WHETHER THEY ARE WARRANTED OR USEFUL OR NOT.”
    (end of quote)

Seven years later and Osama Bin-Laden still walks free, the USA has virtually no standing in the world community, draconian laws gutting the constitution have been established, the source of the attacks (Afghanistan) is returning to the condition in which we started seven years ago…

Seven wasted years…. and to think that there are fools out there that want to extend the same policies that have led the USA to it’s current sorry condition by continuing the same policies and idiotically calling it “Change”.

  3. What a load of crap. Jon Stewart, David Letterman and others should not have been asked to do crap like this.

Next time there’s a big tragedy, can we please not force the comedians and talk show hosts to do stuff that they don’t usually do? It’s not neccessary, everyone know that they’re there to make us laugh / learn through satire, there’s no need to make them put us through this cringfest before we give them back the keys.

  4. highaman says:

Can someone tell me why I never am able to view video from comedyCentral? Is it because I’m Canadian? are they racists? 😉 (seriously I’m sad aboot that)

  5. Mark Derail says:

As a Canadian – I’m NOT ALLOWED to watch the video.

Instead, I am punished to go to TheComedyCentral.ca, which is hopelessly broken – even with Internet Explorer, and doesn’t have archives to this video.

So KUDOS to the great comments of those before me, I especially liked the PBS quote.

  6. Uncle Patso says:

    # 4 Neal at IntoYourHead said:

“What a load of crap. Jon Stewart, David Letterman and others should not have been asked to do crap like this.”

I think you misunderstand. These guys weren’t forced to react/respond to the attacks — they probably had to be restrained from saying some of the things they wanted to say.

It’s one thing to see something like this on TV. It’s entirely different to see it _out your window_, to go to work and find yourself covered with the dust and soot and to personally know people who have just died, to clean your clothes and wash yourself and wonder if you’re washing off some part of a person you once knew. No sir, they were not coerced or forced in any way, except by these terrible events.

  7. Todd Peterson says:

    Powerful stuff.

    Thanks for posting it.

  8. James Sanborn says:

I’ve never seen this. Very powerful stuff. Thanks John, for putting this here. My keyboard is going to short-out due to my tears.

  9. laineypie says:

That almost made ME cry. To see a man so light and funny all the time, reduced to tears…

  10. chris says:

#3 you spelled Bruce’s last name wrong.

#4 Get off of your soap box, feel sorry for yourself.

Let all of the bad, and often stupid, things that have happened since go for a bit. Just let it be a morning that you will always remember. That’s powerful enough.

I live outside of Washington D.C. I woke that morning to the sounds of jet planes doing donuts over my house. I remember indirect friends being called to go hide under mountains in West Virginia. All of that fear.

This seems like the first year when there wasn’t political spin added to the conversation. That is all to the good. I think it’s a big step forward.

As angry as everyone can be with dummies in politics, or on the road, or in the media… after 9/11 everything was love and hurt. For a brief moment we were all family.

  11. Jopa says:

May the souls of the victims of 9/11 rest in peace.
May god bless America & democracy all around the world.

I can’t wait to visit NY and see the new tower complex when it is ready!
