Park wardens have been ordered to stop and interrogate anyone who is not accompanied by children. The visitors who are quizzed have to explain their presence and risk being thrown out or reported to police if their answers are not satisfactory.
The policy has been introduced at Telford Town Park in Shropshire. The council which manages the 420-acre area says it is a ‘commonsense approach’ aimed at safeguarding children.
But park users accused it of ‘authoritarian madness’ and said the ruling risked panicking parents about the dangers faced from potential paedophiles. The policy came to light after two environmental campaigners dressed as penguins were thrown out of the park last month when caught handing out leaflets on climate change.

I enjoy going to our local parks and watching the kiddies play. Their joy and wonderment is invigorating. I have never gotten a bad look from anyone but I also do not engage the kiddies, and yet, I feel uncomfortable in taking simple pleasure in the pleasure of others.
What is the opposite of schadenfreund?
Travel overseas seems to be easier with the kiddies quite willing to mill around any stranger. In my travels, I have noticed kiddies universally have this innate joy in being outside and running around. This light tends to extinguish around age 10-11 as they tend more towards pack behavior. The early stages of becoming a political animal no doubt.
You can’t even photograph your kid at sporting events or at the pool. The “authorities” think you might be a closet pedophile. What ever happened to common sense?

I can see that type of thing if its a playground, where theres swings and jungle gyms or whatever, and you have weirdos hanging out nearby eyeballing the kids
I go to a lot of parks to walk around and check out the things that grow or live there. And just enjoy it. I would be highly upset if I were to be harassed by cops for minding my own business.
Maybe what they should do is fence in the child play areas, and restrict kids to those areas of the park only unless accompanied by an adult.
Who says parks are just for kids? Whos taxes pay for these parks?
While I do enjoy the parks, I don’t have ant kids of my own. I’m curious to see how this would play out for a guy like me… Sometimes if it’s nice out, I like to ride over to the nearest park to my office and enjoy my lunch outdoors. Admittedly, I do look at the hot mommies if there are any, but my primary reason is to enjoy the outdoors.

Actually, it’s an Anglo-American fuck-up. The hysteria over pedophiles is no more than a sanctimonious cover-up for our own sick appetite for the lurid. Of course, the media knows this and cynically panders to it with its “exposés”.
And if, during the interrogation they find out that you are just there to enjoy the park, for no particular reason, what then?
It’s not like you are going to say, “I’m here to abduct children for the sex slave trade.”
When out walking, I often go through the local parks, and even take a ride on the swings. Why the swings? I like them, and pumping up to a good speed a few times is a great abs workout.
But I have almost never seen cops in the parks here (Los Angeles) except on say a Saturday afternoon when it is very crowded.

HOW many Kids have been taken from this park?

I think it would be easier to install Radio Phones in the park with a DIRECT connect to the police. Or even add a FEW more people to HELP WATCH the park for Strange people.

Ok this is happening just as bad in the US. We recently made a visit back to the US and took our kids to Davis animal farm in Ma. It is like an upscale petting zoo. My wife and I went in with our kids and My mom was supposed to meet us there in like a half an hour. She ended up calling me on my cell so I would come pick her up at the entry. They would not let her into the park unless she had a child with her… WTF. She is 65 and she was saying she was meeting us inside. The fear mongering in the US is out of F’ing control..

If some poor fat over the hill person tries to take a walk in the park for their health or just to have a day out they are lible to end up being listed as a child molister.
If England is leading the way to the future all I can say is it sounds like a pretty awful place to live.
English people are “British subjects” and rightfully should be suspected guilty until proven otherwise. How else can the Crown and State give and provide the public the protection it demands. The Crown & State correctly must maintain a level of surveillance with a dossier on each British subject” more then the KGB or Gestapo ever had done.
To adequately protect every one’s individual rights and liberties the state must assume each “British subject” is guilty and thereby proactively act and interrogate all as such. Only after extensive questioning can a “not-guilty” be reluctantly assigned temporarily to someone. Also since, innocents really can’t be proven, a temporary assessment of “not-guilty” is the best one can hope for.
Really, had the interrogations in the park, on the streets or where ever, been thorough enough, no one would truly be “not-guilty”. So receiving a “not-guilty” is a symptom of inept police work.
Just because in America, during the Bush/McCain era, this governmental mind-set has become the cultural norm; American police are right to view and treat all it’s “citizens” as “American subjects”. All American’s are thereby necessarily suspected and guilty of something until proven not-guilty.
These proactive governmental activities, of maintaining extensive surveillance and a tracking dossier on each “American subject/citizen” is what gives Americans their demanded cherished warm fuzzy; especially, after watch the evening news.

Obviously, we should all write to the Telford and Wrekin Council to say that we may want to come to England some day and visit the Telford Town Park, so could they please run their Criminal Records Bureau checks and risk assessments now, before it’s too late and we inadvertently run afoul of the law. Perhaps we should make it convenient for ALL Americans who may wish to visit England some day, and just send them the names of all 330 million Americans for their investigation. Oh, and the Chinese, too! Oh, and there are, what, 150 million Japanese that might want to be tourists in Telford come tourist season. They’d better get busy!
Maybe the answer is just to grab some kid from the mall first, before you head to the park?
