HP says it has found a way to reduce notebook packaging materials by 97 percent, and cut transportation costs by 31 percent. The computer giant has won Walmart’s “green” Home Entertainment Design Challenge, by packaging a Pavillion dv6929 in a messenger bag capable of doubling as a shipping container. As a result, less styrofoam and cardboard are consumed, and a bulk shipment can occupy less space in ships and trucks, in theory resulting in less fuel expenses.
While its messenger-bag pilot program will not save money initially because of development costs, benefits could be substantial in widespread use. This will not carry over to shoppers however, who will be expected to pay a “negligible” increased price.
The bag is described as tan and canvas-like, with an “aqua” theme featuring a blue and green design on the front. The case is made from 100 percent recycled material.
Using their creative staff for more than campaigns for gaming laptops, eh? I wonder how and why they arrived too late for the back-to-school market?
It’s about time! I recommend that HP or Dell or any computer manufacturer team up with Tom Bihn and sell combos. Love his bags and would be good idea to match the laptop to the bag on site.
I would like to be able to personalize my bag before it leaves the factory.
Cool way for HP to save money, but not something I’d suggest an end user to try to ship a laptop in.
The Gorillas at UPS would trash that thing in a few hours.
Yea for HP!
Boo that it is at Walmart.
Looks like a bomb to me.
That bag doesn’t look 97% smaller.
How secure is it for shipment? UPS already breaks so many laptops as it is.
I’ll give credit to HP for actually shipping a laptop bag that’s actually large enough to hold more than just the laptop.
Too many laptop makes ship either with no carrying case, or with a useless “sleeve” case that only the laptop can fit into – forget about including the power brick, mouse, or even a notepad and pen!
I would want them to ship the bag in something else. Why would I use a dirty bag?
Unfortunately, that bag looks something like a Republican Log Cabin member would use. Don’t they come in something normal people would want, like plain beige?
I have to agree with Mr. Fusion. That is the ugliest laptop bag I have ever seen!
