LOS ANGELES – Don LaFontaine, the man who popularized the catch phrase “In a world where…” and lent his voice to thousands of movie trailers, has died. He was 68.
LaFontaine died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications in the treatment of an ongoing illness, said Vanessa Gilbert, his agent.
LaFontaine made more than 5,000 trailers in his 33-year career while working for the top studios and television networks.

LaFontaine insisted he never cared that no one knew his name or his face, though everyone knew his voice.

Damn….
Movie previews will never be the same…
Yeah, I’ll miss this guy too.
Not only a timeless voice, but a wonderful person. We could all learn a lot from him.
Do you think he did a voice over for his own funeral? That would be cool …
“In a world where … Don LaFontaine’s last gig is out of this world!”
“In a world where announcers become celebrities, one man will be missed by all…”
He was talented and had a great sense of humor.
A wonderful orator, he will be missed.

This guy will be a timeless wonder… I hope. I trust they have digitally captured his voice and will use it forever… (sending the appropriate $ to his estate).
Great video, for a great guy. I’ll miss him too.
Guess that cashiers job at Denny’s finally opened up!
(watch the end of the video)
i often wondered who took over Ernie Anderson’s voice over work..

You know what this means. Tay Zonday is the new voice over guy. Another sign of the end times.
I think voice actors are underrated. Guys like Don Fontaine and Billy West are geniuses and bring qualities to their work that “regular actors” miss.
Wonder if Pablo Francisco is gonna take his place?
It is very sad about Mr. LaFontaine. But I also think that someone with a great voice like Tay Zonday should also be seriously looked at.
QB, you are exactly right. So many producers of animated films feel the need to use well-known actors in place of voice talent.. It’s a shame really.
