A Nigerian religious leader with 86 wives has accepted an Islamic decree ordering him to divorce all but four of them, local authorities say. A spokesman for the emir of Bida told the BBC that Mohammadu Bello Abubakar, 84, has agreed to comply with the decree.
Earlier, Mr Abubakar had challenged Islamic scholars, saying there was no punishment stated in the Koran for having more than four wives. “I have not contravened any established law that would warrant my being banished from the land… There is no law that says one must one must not marry more than four wives.”
“All my wives are with children and some of these are people I have married and stayed with for over 30 years, how can they expect me to leave them within two days,” he reportedly told local newspapers.
The former teacher and Islamic preacher lives in Niger State with his wives and at least 170 children.

So this also means there are 81 more Nigerian men who can’t find a wife because this asshat “married” then all. So nothing else to do but strap on a mass-murder (aka: suicide) vest and go meet the virgins in the name of Islam.
He’s 84 and some of the woman he’s with for 30 years… hmmmm. So he either married late or he discarts them over 30 years of marriage…
What it all means to me is his wives were being supported in a country where that condition is rare. You don’t even have to be rich in a lot of Africa==just have food. And with 84 wives, even if he was a wife beating ahole==once every 3 months could also be a very good deal.
So quick to judge. I met a guy in Ethiopia a while back crying at the Hilton bar. He was moving back to the USA. He was shacked-up with 3 beautiful black women who he housed, clothed, and fed on his technician’s salary. He was convinced that all 3 would rather die than turn to more traditional prostitution. He wanted to marry them/one and bring back to USA–but family wouldn’t allow a mixed marriage. Anyway he left. 2 of the babes did commit suicide. Don’t know about the third. I expect about the same ration for these women.
