A woman has been arrested for failing to return two books to the Grafton [Wisconsin] Library.

Heidi Dalibor was arrested after she failed to return the books, “Angels and Demons” and “White Oleander”, last year.

“I said, what could they possibly do? They can’t arrest me for this… I was wrong,” Dalibor said.

Dalibor did not respond to four notices from the library, two phone calls and two letters. The library forwarded the case to police, who issued a citation for Dalibor’s failure to return the materials or pay the fine. The citation included a court date, which Dalibor admits she ignored.

You know, this is one of those stories where I’m not on anybody’s side.. because EVERYBODY is *nuts*.

Thanks, K B

Poor woman… she ignores everything and expects that the world will conform to her. And, of course, I wanted to take those books out 🙂

    Poor depraved… err, deprived baby!

  2. Personality says:

Okay “princess”, pull your head out of your ass and follow the law.

  3. wbskeet37 says:

The final line from the article..

“I still have the books and I don’t plan to return them because they’re paid for now,” Dalibor said.

My spidey sense tells me that they still want the books back. She just paid the fine.

  4. bobbo says:

Where do you get off thinking everyone is nuts?

She failed to respond to a court order.

Sad that even the educated, erudite, and world traveled left wingnuts continue to confuse anarchy with liberty. Such an attitude is more likely to bring the former rather than the latter.

Or maybe its just the headlines and commentary only disrespects the readers rather than common sense.

  5. Ah_Yea says:

Silly me, I thought that the library would simply not allow her to check out any more books until she pays for the books she still has.

I’m off to the library to return a few things…

Proof that all laws are enforced with the threat of violence — no matter how minor the violation, if you refuse to obey long enough men with guns will show up at your door.

It’s about time these book-borrowing-nutbars get what they deserve! Damn hippies, with their long hair and ipods!

Love the look on her face. At least she is taking on the whole experience with a bit of humor.

Another example of these whippersnappers trying to steal what they should be buying!

  11. Jägermeister says:

She asked for it… but then again, Bush and Cheney has been asking for impeachment for years and they don’t get it…

  12. pfkad says:

So what’s the difference between this and actually shoplifting the books from a bookstore?

  13. Left Wingnut says:

When you take something and then bring it back, that’s borrowing.

When you take something and keep it, that’s stealing.

    What’s so hard about that?

  14. Li says:

#14 Indeed. I would argue that a fine should be sufficient, however, as an arrest and court date costs the county lots of money, while a simple fine is a net profit. They could buy more books, ya know?

  15. Sir Doucheington says:

She looks likes a spoiled ditz, but this is retarded. Why did the douche-run library want to prosecute? Send it to a collection agency instead of wasting the court and police dept’s time and resources.

This is a case of more fascist zero-tolerance mental midgets pissing away tax dollars to feel powerful.

  16. ECA says:

And the cops have So Little to do…

  17. sirfelix says:

“Why did the douche-run library want to prosecute?”

To send a message. I just had to spend 2 days as a juror on the case of a high-school drop-out fisherman who exceeded his fishing limits by 3% because the state’s commercial fishing laws are 500 pages long and need to be interpreted by a college educated person. After the trial the judge and prosecutor admitted to making an example of this guy so that everyone else wouldn’t go over the limit.
Spending tens of thousands of dollars over 30lbs of fish seems silly, but thats why we pay public officials and give them better benefits then our teachers.

  18. Glenn E. says:

Not a very imaginative theif. I wish my library could nab its DVD thieves. But I suspect that they just walk off with discs, without checking them out. And their security setup isn’t very sophisticated. I doubt there are any detectors in the doorways to catch them. Most branches are quite old, and ill equipped. I’m sure it’s easier than lifting DVDs at a WalMart.

  19. eyeofthetiger says:

What is even more comical is that most major metropolitan police departments have a minimal warrant amount of around $1,000. for a police officer to cross city lines to pick up someone. So say two cities within a larger metropolitan area that have HQ’s about 4 miles away will not take the time to drive to the line to city line for a $1,000. warrant because it doesn’t reach the minimum of $1,200. People who have to pay warrants for over due library books should have to serve community service at a library.

  24. JimR says:

She’s got the vacuous smile of a christian on crusade.

  25. Lou says:

Everyone on the USA will be going to jail someday.

  26. Mr. Fusion says:

She didn’t respond to repeated attempts by the library to return the books. The cops wrote her a ticket. She could have either paid the ticket of contested it in court. By failing to attend court she was found guilty of contempt.

Sucks to be an idiot and sucks to be her. And she still doesn’t own the books.

  27. James Hill says:

Wisconsin stories are so much better than Florida stories.

  28. #24 – Jimmer

    >>She’s got the vacuous smile of a christian
    >>on crusade.

Naw, if anything, she’s got the empty-soul look of an Atheist looking for meaning in her sad, meaningless life.

Just one of many reasons why she’s hot. Those girls looking for redemption will do just about anything.

  29. Les says:

I had some books WAY overdue at a college library. THe finaly sent ma an invoice for the books. I told them I would pay the invoice for the books($700 or so), but I was keeping the books. If they would let me pay the last fine amount, of about $100, I would bring the books back. They got the books and the $100.

  30. JimR says:

    #28 Mr. M,
An atheist looking for meaning in life is an oxymoron.

… and souls don’t exist, so how can one be empty?

The really sad thing is that since there is no true reason for existence but life itself, the most weak and cowardly must invent a god and everlasting life in order to remain sane.

Unfortunately, worshiping a non-existent god can lead to insane behavior, as demonstrated by Ms. Dalibor.
