Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said in an interview Wednesday that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own. “I think — I’ll have my staff get to you,” McCain told Politico in Las Cruces, N.M. “It’s condominiums where — I’ll have them get to you.” The correct answer is at least four, located in Arizona, California and Virginia, according to his staff. Newsweek estimated this summer that the couple owns at least seven properties. In recent weeks, Democrats have stepped up their effort to caricature McCain as living an outlandishly rich lifestyle — a bit of payback to the GOP for portraying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) as an elitist, and for turning the spotlight in 2004 on the five homes owned by Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry.

Pro-Obama labor groups have sent out mailers highlighting McCain’s wealth, and prominent Democrats have included references to it in comments to reporters. Twice in the past two weeks, those Democrats have focused on McCain’s houses. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) told Politico’s Ben Smith that it was McCain “who wears $500 shoes, has six houses and comes from one of the richest families in his state.” And David Axelrod, Obama’s chief strategist, referred in an interview with Adam Nagourney of The New York Times to an imagined meeting of McCain strategists “on the portico of the McCain estate in Sedona — or maybe in one of his six other houses.”

A problem we should all have. Does this explain why they “forgot” to pay their Real Estate Taxes?

It’s ironic since all these candidates are rich. When was the last time a Presidential candidate had to punch a timecard? The circus known as the election cycle has guaranteed that only people wealthy enough not to have to work will be able to campaign.

Are you seriously comparing the Obamas to the McCains?

While Obamas were paying of their students loans, the McCains were impulse buying luxury homes.

You have to be suspicious of her real appeal sans makeup and wardrobe given John allegedly referred to her as a c**t.

#11 – Obama, the “community activist” who has been living off other people; his wife, and the taxpayers; graduate of Harvard, and Columbia.
His wife, another Liberal lawyer and corporate board member, pulling in over $260K in 2006. They move into a $1.6 million mansion in an exclusive community in Chicago in 2005, with the assistance of a criminal buddy, where they’d call the police if they saw any of the “community” for which he was an “activist.”

Limousine Liberal pukes who have more in common financially with the McCains than those over whom they wish to rule.

  14. Dave W says:

Just McCain proving his senility. But it reminds me of a more important problem: there definitely IS something wrong with the system when you have to raise tens of millions of dollars to get a job that pays $400,000 a year for 4 (sometimes 8) years after which you get forced retirement.

And there has to be something wrong with anyone who would really want the job, too. The last president we had who was not a megalomaniac was Jimmy Carter.

Now, if Obama picks that jackass Biden, I think I just might sit this one out.

  15. Matt Garret says:

You might also be corrupt if you got a “sweatheart deal” for your house from a guy convicted on 16 of 24 counts of corruption. Your name would also be OBAMA.

Of course the “investors” that contribute to these campaign funds will expect a “return” on their investment from the winning candidate. I would not be too shocked to see the same investors contributing to both the Democratic and Republican campaigns. After all, it is guaranteed that one of them will win….

Conservatives hate lawyers and then “lawyer up” at lightening speed.

    What hypocrisy.

They complain about “Limousine Liberals” but then give millions of our tax dollars to limousine companies in the name of a long discredited trickle down economic theory.

  22. geofgibson says:

#24 – “long discredited trickle down economic theory.”

There never was a “theory.” It was a straw man put up by the Left.
    http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=4686

The hypocrisy is the politicians who lecture working people about their not paying enough tax, while those same politicians feed at the public trough. The hypocrisy is telling someone they have to live a stone age lifestyle, while tooling around in private jets and living in multiple million dollar mansions.

At least Conservatives want to see people raise their own standard of living rather than Liberals who want everyone to live the same meager existence. Except for themselves, after all, someone has to rule over the little people who are to stupid to take care of themselves. 😉

  23. Greg Allen says:

Here’s the bottom line for me, Geoff.

The conservatives sold America a spoilt rich-boy old money millionaire as a folklsy “regular guy” who they would like to have a beer with.

We got a spoilt rich boy millionaire who let his billionaire friends loot America and screw the middle class.

The conservatives are trying to pull this stunt again with McCain.

    I’m not buying it.

The neocons already have the “Drive-by Media” (as Anal Cyst Limbaugh call them) by the balls. Much of the so-called lefty pinko commie fag media are shills for the neocon disinformation machine. Just look to Judith Miller at the NYT and her pimping of Dumbya’s trophy war. The NYT “Lib media”? HAW HAW HAW.

There are at least 4 types of rich people:

Born to it and think they are lucky.
Born to it and think they earned it.
Made it and think they are lucky.
Made it and think they earned it.

Two of those statements are correct.

  26. grog says:

    well, let’s see,
    Carter — humble upbringing,
    Clinton — poor upbringing,
    Obama — humble upbringing

    Reagan — hollywood star
    Bush I — super-rich family
    Bush II — super-rich family
    McCain — super-rich family

gosh, i dunno about you but i’d say the republicans are from the very upper crust

republicans like to trash hollywood and elitists, and yet they continually foist rich brats and hollwood actors upon us.

hmm….”hypocrite” comes to mind, yeah that’s it

    thanks!

  27. geofgibson says:

#28 – Not sure which two you mean. I know I’m doing all right and I’m lucky and earned it. Worked my ass off that’s for sure.

#26 – Greg, right or wrong, at least you think for yourself.

  28. Paddy-O says:

“You might be an elitist if – You’ve forgotten how many houses you own”

Maybe, I know a retired police officer who bought and fixed homes and then rented them. Salt of the earth guy, grade school education. If he was asked he probably wouldn’t be able to give a snap answer….

    How ’bout this?

You might be grasping at straws if – You write drivel like this.

    Fixed.

  29. grog says:

#31 so what does a self-made guy like your buddy have to do with a guy raised in privilege with more money in the bank than the average joe will ever make in his entire life?

hmm… not so much, but thanks for showing us once again that conservatives because of their inability to understand gray areas, fail to understand basic literary concepts like analogy.

and thanks for the laughs! drivel indeed, did you have to look that word up?
