SHIT ON SHIT IS STILL SHIT, SORRY ZUNE, DON’T FELL BAD I WILL MAKE MY FINAL STUDENT LOAN PAYMENT IN DEC OF 2011, SHIT

  2. Esteban says:

#1, That’s the best Zune endorsement I’ve ever read, and I’m not just being sarcastic.

  3. montanaguy says:

AMD going fab-less makes some sense. The genius is in the design of the chip; the drudgery in mass producing it. Why not focus on the genius?
I don’t agree that Yahoo has content all wrong – their games section is excellent and highly interactive. I love playing Go, and it’s a fun place to play, the setup is excellent. Speaking of which, I’m dumbfounded that a computer beat a Go master; chess, yes – that’s a very set, rote, algorithm inducing game. Go, on the other hand is so open-ended and ethereal that it lends itself very poorly to computer algorithms. Even the best Go playing programs I’ve seen are pretty poor, compared to chess programs. That’s what makes me dubious that someone has made some incredible leap in the world of ‘Go computing’ to beat a master with a computer – I smell a hoax.

  4. montanaguy says:

I looked it up, the computer was given a 9 stone handicap, which is a big advantage. Still pretty impressive for the advances in programming demonstrated.

That 2012 thing is bull crap. The Mayans had to end their calendar somewhere. They weren’t into the “perpetual” calendar fad. I’ve got one of those in tin, that’s good for 50 years, until 2028. So what’s that prove? And I made my own back in high school that was good until 3600. I ran out of room for the alignment table, for more centuries. It wasn’t that I thought world would end by then. It’s amazing how people keep looking for some sign of the end of everything. But they still want to keep on living. So what’s with all these doomsday predictions? Global Warming or Mayan Calendar, it’s all the same crap! Well ya know, everything wears out eventually. So maybe human DNA will self-destruct some decade down the road. That it’s managed to sustain six billion people is remarkable. What magic number will exceed its limit? Science never talks about that, because they don’t want to get into any contraception debates. Just over populate the planet until it smothers. That’s the real long term problem. Not just SUV exhausts.

  6. BillM says:

The big story here is that there are actually “professional GO players”! Are you kidding me?

  7. smartalix says:

    3,

Is expense the only consideration? Why not outsource your job, it could probably be done cheaper elsewhere.

I highly commend hi-tech companies like TI and Vicor and others who design and manufacture here. We retain critical capital infrastructure and keep our IP and worker skillsets. There is also an incentive to get an education that actually means something.

  8. Paddy-O says:

“Red Hat says Linux will all be in the cloud.”

The last dying gasp of s/w that couldn’t make it on the desktop. There is no “cloud”, there is only ACTUAL computesr connected by network protocols. What mktg wonk came up with that stupid term?

  9. MAD Geek says:

I guess AMD no longer has any “real men” left since Sanders retired.

I am really surprised that in multiple articles on AMD going fabless that there has been no comment from Jerry on this development. Has any paper (or blogger or that matter) thought to go ask him?

Uncle Dave, you must have met Jerry Sanders at least once, maybe you might be able to get his opinion on this development.
